They are the same Wario. Wario appears with his overalls once in WarioWare, and there's the WarioWare court in Mario Power Tennis. And I may be missing more.
However, I don't see what's so... sacrilegal about wanting a Wario based on his platform games, in a Super Smash Bros. game. Allowing you to select character variations has been done in the past in other fighting games, and this would be facilitated here since this costume has already appeared in the game. If you don't think giving them different names is necessary, then just don't do it.

I always felt that Wario's alternate costume in Brawl was an afterthought, or maybe a last-minute addition in order to appease the fans who wanted the Wario from Wario Land, not the Wario from WarioWare.
So I thought that it would make sense to take the "Wario is special" idea to the next level - giving Wario an alternate moveset to accompany his alternate costume. So in SSB4, you would have the 'WarioWare' Wario with the same moveset from Brawl as the default costume and the 'Wario Land' Wario with a different moveset based on the Wario Land series as the alternate costume.
You cannot do that with Dr. Mario. He's just Mario in a doctor's outfit who happens to pop pills at you.

True, but I never said they weren't the same. I just implied it was more probable that there were two different Wario's as opposed to Dr. Mario being a different Mario. It was an analogy. I agree. Why have the same character in two different slots? That's just stupid.

Think of it this way, have you ever seen Mario wear his Dr. Mario getup in a regular Mario game or vice-versa?
I mean, there was a pipe in Dr. Mario 64, and the viruses appear as enemies in Mario & Luigi, but ideally I'd prefer to have one of each character.
To make things less confusing look at it this way. Samus and Zero Suit Samus are named as such because they're two different movesets in Brawl, with two different character slots (the latter of which is hidden). Wario in his overalls and Wario in his biker suit are not treated as seperate characters because it's just the same character with a different look.
In Melee, Mario and Dr. Mario were treated separately because they had different abilities in addition to a different look (even if one moveset was based on the other), similar to Samus and Zero Suit Samus. My point is that if they already did that, it would make less sense to just take an already established "character" and reduce it to an alternate skin.
Not to mention, it would be kind of odd seeing Mario in his Dr. garb and not be billed as Dr.Mario or throwing Megavitamins around, because that's what he does. He doesn't use FLUDD or Fireballs. Wario on the other hand has been seen in WarioWare wearing both the outfits he has in Brawl, and his abilities don't change depending on his appearance.
Now do you get where I'm coming from?

As was Rudy the clown from WarioLand 3. This is why you are confusing me. Um...Zero Suit Samus doesn't have her own character slot. It's in the same slot as Samus', just like how overalls Wario and Warioware Wario also share the same slot. They also have different names (as shown on the Smash Bros. website) and pictures. I mean the names aren't different on the box, but... But Dr. Mario is still Mario. That's all I want you to say. I don't give a shit how awkward you'll be seeing Mario in a different outfit doing what he always does, I just think it's ridiculous that you think they are different characters.

I don't really have a problem with Dr.Mario throwing fireballs. It's still Mario. May seem odd at first compared to Melee where he's an actual seperate character, but personally I hope the doctor clothing will be a different costume option at most next time around.
Also about FLUDD, I figure they'll replace it with some new Mario Tornado-ey move based on his Mario Galaxy spin attack. Or more likely whatever else he can do in the new Mario game(s) between now and SSB4.

Your posts are CONFUSING!You did say that Dr. Mario isn't technically Mario and you also say they shouldn't share the same spot. Or maybe you didn't say that. I'm not in the mood to dig through old posts. Point is, Dr. Mario is Mario. They have the same attacks. There is nothing wrong with Dr. Mario shooting fire.

Costumes should just be costumes, they shouldn''t change attacks.

I was speaking purely in terms of SSB; when I said "character" I meant the moves, stats, physics, hitboxes and other quirks that seperate the different characters from one another in SSB.
Of course Dr. Mario is supposed to be Mario, but whenever he's under that guise he doesn't shoot Fireballs and such, so it wouldn't make sense for him to do that in SSB.

Who says he doesn't? Before Melee, Dr. Mario never had a moveset at all!

We do know that he used Megavitamins and a clipboard with paper on it, both of which replaced Mario's fireballs and cape. See what I'm getting at here?

Meh, sometimes I think it would be easier if there were no alternate costumes.
Besides, we should be discussing more new characters now.

Clipboard with paper on it? Dr. Mario used a sheet, not a clipboard. XD

A hospital bed sheet. I remember a couple years ago reading a post where someone sarcastically said maybe Dr. Mario will shoot medicine out of FLUDD when Mario's new down special was confirmed.
