Clipboard with paper on it? Dr. Mario used a sheet, not a clipboard. XD I assumed the sheet in question was a piece of paper. Guess I was wrong. I did once attempt to find a way to differentiate Doc from Mario in unique ways: -Have him carry around a medical bag and beat his enemies with it for his Smashes. ( I know for sure that the instruction manual for Tetris & Dr. Mario has artwork of him holding a medical bag, but there aren't any scans of it on the web.) -Have him throw Viruses at his opponents for one of his Specials a la Dedede's ability to throw Waddle Dees. -Have him use his stethoscope like his does during one of his victory poses in Melee. -Have him use the clipboard I mentioned earlier. -A Final Smash that involves a giant jar full of Megavitamins and Viruses. -Or, a Final Smash that involves Doc driving an ambulance (this also appeared in the Tetris & Dr. Mario instructions).

Oh yeah, Sakurai would totally make Dr. Mario completely different from Mario... just look at Link and Toon Link.
Oh wait...

Where did I ever say he would do that? I was merely suggesting how it could be done. That snarky post was completely uncalled for.

I suggest we avoid Mario and Zelda for now. Lets focus on other franchises.

So.... what do you suggest?

I'd say unused franchises.

So why haven't anyone suggest any unused franchises? The seven unused franchises I'd go for - Punch-Out, Sin & Punishment, Stafy, Wars, Nazo no Murasamejou, Duck Hunt, and Captain Rainbow. And I'll explain again. Little Mac - popular NES game, no longer retro, has a Wii sequel, could utilize the other boxers' moves as part of his moveset as well as generic boxing moves, might use the star KO move as his Final Smash Saki - popular N64 import game, no longer Japan-only, has a Wii sequel, could use his gun/sword combo weapon for his moveset, might turn into a Ruffian as his Final Smash Stafy - has 5 games out in Japan, popular Japan-only franchise, might fight on water surface instead of swimming/drowning like other characters, has a potential to be a Kirby-esque fighter minus the floating/copying Commanding Officer - popular franchise with about 10 games out, no longer Japan-only, Andy from Advance Wars could stay in the background like Red (Pokemon Trainer) and orders a trio of infantry soldiers to fight a la Ice Climbers with weapons like grenades, bazookas, land mines, and machine guns, Final Smash could involve Andy firing his tank at the stage from the background like Snake's Final Smash from the foreground Takamaru - popular franchise in Japan, retro and Japan-only, has a potential to be an unique sword-fighter, maybe a bit like Link and Marth Hunting Dog - popular NES game, retro and international, could be the new WTF fighter like Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B., could incorporate Duck Hunt's gameplay itself for his moveset with ducks, clay pigeons, and the unseen hunter from the fourth wall, plus natural hunting dog techniques such as hiding in the bush and fetching, his leash might even be used for tether recovery and reeling characters close Captain Rainbow - Japan-only though not as popular as other franchises, his game alone suggests he would fit in SSB just perfectly as he already interacts with the obscure Nintendo characters that it would make sense for him to be around the popular ones, his moveset might involve yo-yos, rainbows, and maybe borrow some of Captain Falcon's moves It would be nice to see Captain Rainbow, Takamaru, Little Mac, and a trio of infantry soldiers (Commanding Officer) all together in a match or even as a team in the Adventure Mode. The Hunting Dog could have a role in the Adventure Mode where he hunts down characters, points at them then the unseen hunter shoots them, turning them into trophies (making him look like one of the villains). Later it turns out he's collecting fighters for his team to fight the greater evil just like King Dedede did in Brawl. That'd be cool.

You've already repeated those like 50 times elsewhere on the board, Arcadenik. ...and, Hunting Dog as the new King Dedede? Who said we'd even have tSsE anymore? Get real, man.

I think the new WTF should be more along the lines of system based, as R.O.B. and G&W were... Argh, I don't know, just use the penguin from FAMILY BASIC

Dr. Mario's Final Smash should be something like Waddle Dee Army, where a hundred little 8-bit viruses rain from the sky and move in straight paths taking errant 90 degree turns before they land on a platform and dash off the side. Maybe, because Sakurai likes this kinda crap, Red can be more knockback, blue more damage, yellow more "hold" when it hits you, but overall they're no different than say the Excitebikers. At the end, Doc just holds up a pill and they all "whoosh." Also, anything is possible, really. C'mon. Dr. Mario is just Mario in a labcoat, but they can still make him playable. I think the new WTF should be more along the lines of system based, as R.O.B. and G&W were... Argh, I don't know, just use the penguin from FAMILY BASIC Hanafunda Man from those awful fake "leaks" two years ago would be friggin awesome and you know it > EDIT: Also, I just remembered that Monolith Soft is now first-party to Nintendo. What about a character like Kalas from Baten Kaitos or somebody from Soma Bringer popping up? Chrono and Xenogears still belong to Square and Namco respectively, but Baten Kaitos and Soma Bringer are totally Nintendo now. Though, we still barely saw anything from Camelot or Brownie Brown as far as their franchises in Brawl, so.... :/

Man Frog, lets not put words in my mouth. I said nothing about the Subspace Emissary. I was merely throwing out storyline possibilites for the Adventure Mode. Notice I said "Adventure Mode", not "Subspace Emissary"? Yeah, its possible the storyline might not have anything to do with Tabuu and his Subspace Army but its very safe to assume that SSB4 would have Adventure Mode again. PyroGuy, the penguin from Family Basic (and Pinball for the NES)? And I thought Sky Skipper was scrapping the bottom of the barrel. At least you didn't suggest the Hanafunda Card Man. I don't know anything about him and I seriously doubt he even exists at all! At least the Hunting Dog is an actual Nintendo character who could potentially base his moveset on Duck Hunt's gameplay itself. Diskun would have made an okay WTF fighter if he had a moveset based off his games, except he doesn't have games to base his moveset on, let alone have limbs to fight with. I think Diskun would be perfect as a boss in the Adventure Mode where he's the god/creator of the Nintendo multiverse. He could maybe psychically type out magic spells in Family Basic to attack your character!

The proper name, my mistake, was "Rainman."

I remember that idea of TrustTheFungus. He posted it in SmashBoards, in NinDB, and at least another SSB message board.
Not a video game character (or is it?) but he is a Nintendo character. I hope I can eventually exchange my Club Nintendo points for the Mario remake of those cards.

Kalas? Well, I liked Baten Kaitos (only played the first game) so he's a maybe, especially when he's only got two games out but I haven't heard anything new about his franchise lately. Maybe his franchise is not ripe now like many retro franchises are? Rainman seems interesting (at least he's not a man made up of playing cards like I imagined him to be) as a WTF fighter but I'm not sure about him. He's too obscure. He never had a video game appearance and is only a picture on a playing card. Remember what Sakurai said about characters having to appear in video games? Now I realize this only applies to non-Nintendo characters so Rainman might be an exception. Either way I'd take Takamaru before Rainman.

I'm sure there have been video game editions of these cards, but a different restriction would be if they "originated" in video games.
But wait, I'm confused now. The Wikipedia article on Hanafuda barely mentions Nintendo when explaining its origins...
