Hm. I can't possibly believe that. Jigglypuff is tradition. She'll always be a part of Smash Bros. Just like the other eleven with her.
Either way, I'm tempted to make my own topic like this, only with actual civility and voting and an actual selection screen made by the board.

Hey, how about another poll to see who are the most wanted veterans to return in SSB4? Didn't Sakurai hold one in Japan and Ice Climbers was the most wanted character to return in SSB3?

I'm more convinced she was added in Brawl to increase the roster number when she, Toon Link, and Wolf have no roles in the Adventure Mode and Sonic's role felt forced. They were likely late additions. I didn't think Sonic's role felt forced... it was actually perfectly fitting with his character. Just like in Sonic X, Sonic arrived just in time, at the last possible second. I can't really see how they'd have worked him into the rest of the story while keeping him in-character, really. He's not usually one to team up with people, unless they can keep up with him. I suppose Jigglypuff and Wolf might've been late additions, but Toon Link has his own stage. For that reason I really doubt he was just thrown in at the last minute, which throws off your reasoning for thinking the other two were. Plus, didn't Sakurai say that the non-third-party roster had been finalized over a year before the game's release? I'm sure I remember reading that.

Hey, how about another poll to see who are the most wanted veterans to return in SSB4? Well I would include in the poll characters that people were discussing about leaving or being replaced. But those so far only include Lucario and Wolf. I think everyone here on the forum wants to see everyone return. Brawl was pretty solid, no Pichus and the like.

It could be possible that Jigglypuff, Toon Link, and Wolf were added after Marth and Mr. Game & Watch and all the newcomers were completed. I'm thinking that maybe after Pirate Ship was completed, Sakurai was getting started with Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, Roy, etc. but then it was decided to include Sonic so Sakurai dropped all these characters to work on Sonic and Green Hill Zone. It could also explain why Mewtwo had more data in Brawl.

I'm pretty sure Flip pointed out the exact same thing back when the hackers first discovered all the missing code on the Brawl disk. ...and why are you phrasing it as though Sakurai is the only man working on the game? He has a development team, you know. Give them a little credit every now and again, won't 'cha? They deserve it!

LOL. I guess its a force of habit. I guess we should start saying "Sora" instead of "Sakurai" in reference to Sakurai's team... but it feels weird saying "Sora" when I associate that name with Kingdom Hearts.

If you want to refer to this company, call them Sora Ltd.

Sounds good to me. Umm... what new character to suggest...? Oh, yeah, Isaac. Why haven't we (besides Teev) suggest him? He was an AT in Brawl, maybe if there was a new Golden Sun game in the future, then Isaac might be more likely. I'm beginning to think that console games are first priority when it comes to choosing new characters. Isaac had two games but so did Olimar at that same time frame, so why is Olimar playable and Isaac is not? I think its because Pikmin had both games on the GCN while Golden Sun had both games on the GBA. Consoles > Handhelds, so it seems.

I think its because Pikmin had both games on the GCN while Golden Sun had both games on the GBA. Or because of their development studios. Pikmin is made by Nintendo EAD, with Miyamoto in it. I saw Captain Olimar guaranteed just because of that.

EAD? What other games were developed by EAD? I would like to look for some sort of pattern with the newcomers. Why were they chosen to be playable while others were chosen to be ATs? I am wondering if the Assist Trophies are to include the most popular fan-favorite characters who aren't significant to Nintendo in terms of marketing.

Yeah, EAD made F-Zero. Which is the biggest proof of all that that's not much of a factor in choosing new characters...

Oh, so EAD made F-Zero and Captain Falcon is in, so what's the point of having Samurai Goroh or Black Shadow or any other F-Zero character playable besides having two playable F-Zero characters? I'm sorry but I'm not supporting a second F-Zero character just because F-Zero has one character while other franchises have two or more characters. Its almost like wanting more female characters for the sake of having more female characters.

If you're not going to expand the series in Smash at all, when it has every possible venue for getting someone new (this isn't Ice Climbers we're talking here, we're talking a series with fifty-five other playable characters across all the games), what's the point of even keeping it? Especially when in Brawl they put what little they had of the series through the ringer anyway and did whatever the hell they wanted to it. If it's never going to get even the attention that Mother got, and given that we're probably not getting another F-Zero anyway, then can they please just excise the whole thing and let it die with a little dignity? Free up some space for other series that they clearly are more interested in bringing in. (I'm guessing from the tone of your post that you're not an F-Zero fan.)
And you say it like there's something wrong with bringing in more female characters for the sake of them being female. It's called getting some goddamn variety, and breaking up the sea of bishonen and furries that are the only characters people care about.
