Besides Yumetaro, I believe that most people should compare Kirby to Mega Man more than Starfy, because they both can copy abilities, have a "half-friend, half-foe" (who are Proto Man and Meta Knight) and appear in action platformers with several spin-offs. Here are some differences between the Kirby and Starfy series: - Unlike Kirby, Starfy has a family and is often supported by Moe (Kyorosuke) the clam a lot more than most (if not every) characters in the Kirby franchise.
- Starfy and sometimes his friends make a lot of conversations, while Kirby just reads gestures, body language and other actions. Anime and commercials don't count.
- Kirby is a star warrior, while Starfy is a prince.
- Kirby has spin-offs, while Starfy doesn't.
- Most Kirby games only have one ending, while every Starfy game has a bad and good ending.
- Kirby's age is unknown, while Starfy is 7 years old.
This comparing thing makes me want to post these other video game comparisons: Dr Wright (Nintendo's SimCity series) -> Most people compared him to Adolf Hitler, some compared him to Groucho Marx, but some true Nintendo fans know that he is actually based on Will Wright. Captain Falcon -> any tokusatsu character (especially Kamen Rider 1, because of his moves like Kamen Punch and Kamen Kick), Judge Dredd Sonic the Hedgehog -> click here. Little Mac - Shaggy (Scooby Doo series) + Little Ippo Kevin Keene (Captain N: The Game Master) + Sora (Kingdom Hearts) -> Christopher Thorndyke (Sonic X) Street Fighter characters -> click here. Howard Phillips (Nintendo Fun Club), Narcis Prince (SNES Super Punch-Out!!) -> Conan O'Brien That's about all I can think of for now.

You didn't have to tell us every little detail about Stafy. The differences between him and Kirby should rightfully be obvious. Oh, and Kirby is only referred to as a "Star Warrior" in the Kirby anime. In the games there's no such thing.

Kirby looks like Starfy (got to get used to typing that). I don't see why you make a big deal about them being compared, parrothead. Here is why they are compared. Both have simple shapes for bodies (star and circle) anf both have pretty much the exact same face. That's it. And people never compare characters based on back story, so I don't see why you are. Unless you wanted to compare Harry Potter with Star Wars...

Its mostly because Kirby and Starfy give off the same vibe.
Simple cute characters in a happy bubbly 2D environment.

Generally people don't make deeper comparisons unless they're familiar with the two things being compared. It's not like some average joe schmoe is gonna know to point out the similarities between Superman in the original Richard Donner film and the backstory of Jesus Christ or what-have-you.

So they are opinions, right? Some people focus on what the games are notable for more than comparing them to something that came before them. When most people see the Game Boy game X, they say things like "Hey! It's from the makers of the SNES Star Fox!", which it is, but I don't hear many of them mentioning Atari's Battle Zone. They are both first-person shooters that take place in combat tanks with vector graphics. Before Dylan Cuthbert worked on X, he worked on Star Glider (with vector graphics) and Star Glider 2 (with polygons). Some people like comparing names. When Lord Deathborne created a thread about Mike Jones from the StarTropics series at Smash Boards, several people thought of the rapper of the same name, but one person said that StarTropics was created way before the rapper became a well-known rapper. This kind of thing also happened at the forum of JoshCube's defunct website, Smash Brothers Online, but not as much as at Smash Boards. There are numerous real/fictional people name Mike Jones (or Michael Jones) out there. For the Star Fox series, there is an Atari 2600 game and a Marvel Comics character of the same name. Sometimes people can misunderstood some things in video games. When Sukapon from Joy Mech Fight was suggested by Flip at Smash Boards, some people compared him to Rayman, because they have no limbs, but it's just a coincidence. One reason why is that Joy Mech Fight takes an unbelievably original approach to the problems posed by the large characters found in arcade fighting games - rather than having a fighter that consists of a single sprite, each character is comprised of several smaller sprites, which are then animated together to create the illusion of a whole character. This allowed the game to have 36 characters to choose from, making the game have more characters than every other fighting game up until The King of Fighters '98. That's why Sukapon and the rest of Joy Mech Fight's robots have no limbs. Rayman's limbless body is just a style. To stay on topic, I have some bad news. Stapy will not be referred to as Starpy. Various sources say that she will officially be referred to as Starly. I guess because the letter "p" makes it uncomfortable to say.

Parrot, you're not getting this.
No one is saying Starfy copied Kirby. No one is saying Ray Man copied Sukapon.
Where are you getting this? People only compare Starfy and Kirby because they look the same. It's pretty obvious no one copied off each other.

I heard some people say that Starfy is a rip-off of Kirby at GameTrailers.

Because they were exaggerating or didn't know much about Starfy, don't mind that A similar phenomenon would happen had people known Starfy before knowing Kabi, so it's not a personal insult on Starfy.

Parrot, let me try to do this in a manner you can understand. See that picture of Sky Skipper? His style is inspired by the Fleischer era of cartoons and comics. Now here is Popeye. He actually IS a character from the Fleischer era of comics and cartoons. However, Popeye is far more well-known in the public eye than Sky Skipper was or ever will be. When one of these average people see Sky Skipper what do you think they're going to say? A) He looks kinda like Popeye! or B) He is an obscure Nintendo character based on Popeye's art style. Come on. Tell me the answer.

I never did thought what exactly Sky Skipper looked like. I was kind of thinking of that Japanese arcade flyer of Vs. Ice Climber, and old-school Japanese cartoons before the common anime and manga styles came. Sometimes it makes me think of Japanese stereotypes. Now this reminded me of something. When I went to a snack vending machine in middle and high school, I saw something that the LCD character (considered by Internet meme starters, lovers and YTMND creators as an African American) looks similar to: I hear several people saying they dislike imitations, because they look uninteresting, unoriginal and are recycled. Retro Gamer: I can't possible imagine you think that Pac-Man is a better video game character than Casey Munson. Little Miss Gamer: Well I just think that Pac-Man came first. Retro Gamer: Yeah, but Casey Munson may give you one life. ONE LIFE! I mean you know... Little Miss Gamer: Yeah, but, the Casey Munson totally ripped off of Pac-Man, there would be no Casey Munson. Retro Gamer: Yeah, but they made it better. They took the idea and made it better. Little Miss Gamer: Well Ms. Pac-Man, better storyline and she has a bow. Retro Gamer: Oh come on, Ms. Pac-Man? You bring Ms. Pac-Man into the conversation. Little Miss Gamer: Yeah. Retro Gamer: What? When you put lipstick on a Pac-Man, it's still Pac-Man. Capcom sued Data East for creating Fighter's History (not Fighter's History Dynamite), which looks and plays so much like Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. Things like that made Satoru Iwata say "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery." Waluigi looks like Dick Dastardly! And Snidely Whiplash

This is off-topic, but that picture of Sky Skipper: Are those teeth, or a mustache? I seriously can't tell.

Teeth. He has a large sprite in-game. He's a goofy son-of-a-gun isn't he If you look at any arcade poster from that era of gaming, the artwork either falls into classic over-simplified characters with Pac-Man eyes and chubby cheeks... or into the hyper-realistic style. Not just Nintendo - this was pretty much what they all did back then. Watching the development of characters in official artwork from the 80's through to today is interesting to me. Look at the Fleischer-style Mario from the very first arcade flyers for Donkey Kong, then the stubby, goofy style from Donkey Kong Jr. and Mario Bros, the slightly bendy and blobby Super Mario Bros. artwork, before his eventual standardisation of design in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. The next evolution was into 3D in 1996, and he's been much the same since (only with better texture maps). I also like how the early videogames began by borrowing heavily from early animation, and have now moved into leading cinema in character development and design. Now if only the two could breed and produce a half-decent CGI Mario movie....
