I doubt most people would care even for Donald Duck... It's like a freak-show for most people, seeing the hoops these people will jump through to explain things that don't need explaining in the first place. Maybe you think of the Donald Duck cartoons, but Donaldists mainly focus on comics, by Carl Barks in particular, which have much depper storylines and characters than the cartoons. Of course, they (often academics) and their readers know themselves that the research is for (pseudo)science fun and that it isn't really meant serious. There was also recently an exhibition in a notable museum in Frankfurt where replicas of Gyro Gearloose's inventions were shown. I wonder if video games will be ever as well accepted as comics by German media. Donald Duck and Asterix are very popular, while the image of video games in Germany isn't as good as it should be (too violent, make people kill other people, waste of time and that hobo). Well, the comics also needed some time back then... Bomber-Frog is right on DD's popularity in Europe, people DO care about DD here (I'm not sure on the UK, though ), but as I told, mainly the comics get the fame which are only read by a minority in America today. 'kay, now enough with ducks, back to monkeys and apes (again)...

Topic: Candy Kong: Jungle bicycle or just flirty?

I'd personally prefer to think of her as flirty since she's supposed to be DK's main squeeze, but you know how Rare was with their innuendo. I was kind of hoping PAON would give her a less slutty redesign, but it looks more like they just followed Rare's.

It seems like PAON is really following close to DK64. Then agian I think its because DK64 was really popular in Japan, remember those cards they made? And Brawl even featured Diddy with DK64 moves.
Yes I believe DK64 had a large impact on Japan therefor making the current designs the way they are.

Not necessarily. What about Funky Kong? Or Cranky Kong? Yeah, DK64 does have alot of influence, but not total.

Not totally. But if you observered Funky Kong's face model. The influence for his current design is from DK64.
In the DKC games he was just the Donkey Kong model with a different attire. In DK64, Funky had a more round face lacking the pointed lips. His jaw was bigger and more symetrical to the top part of his face.
Current Funky has those facial features too.

Well, that's true. But then again, you'd have to have that in order to make the characters not look like just a new outfit. You get it with Mario and Luigi, too.

Not necessarily. What about Funky Kong? Or Cranky Kong? Yeah, DK64 does have alot of influence, but not total. I think that's more just because having them PERMANENTLY in a lab coat or army outfit makes no sense for their character. It'd be like sticking Mario in that Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses for every Mario game from now on. Candy and Wrinkly have kept their DK64 designs, though, because it made sense for them.

Well, we've also seen the animal friends being PAON-ified in terms of design. Rambi, Expresso, Enguarde, Squitter... I don't think Rattly or Winky were there? If they'd came back, I wonder how they'd turn out in this new style? Estimated PAON makeovers for Rattly and Winky: Plausible, at best.

In all honesty, I'd like to see PAON try a more serious take on DK. DK's grin has gotten more and more creepy the longer Rare's been away, with the exception of Brawl.

DK actually doesn't show his teeth in any of PAON's artwork though. The only time we ever see them is in games made by Nintendo, which now only consists of Mario spinoffs. I've never found the teeth appealing myself. They only seem suited to Funky and Swanky rather than DK himself. Doesn't help that that go out of their way to show every single tooth, including the gums. *Shudders*

That's because they reuse their renders a lot more often these days.
