So yeah I finally managed to figure out one of the two teams I would use (juggling two theoretical teams is a pain in the ass), and right now in Soul Silver I have a shiny Bulbasaur (with an Everstone - fuck Ivysaur and Venusaur), a Combusken, a Chinchou (still waiting for it to learn an offensive electric move), a Houndour, a Natu and a Duskull. Unlike previous games where I've chosen to custom-tailor teams, there weren't a lot of moves I could breed into the babies either because of gender issues (only had female Lanturn, Xatu and Dusknoir), or having no parent at all (the shiny Bulbasaur is hacked), or type limitations (a lot of the moves I had on my male Blaziken couldn't be learned by a Torchic). Houndour came away as the winner, getting Solar Beam, Sunny Day and Flamethrower, but the problem with high-powered moves that early on in the game is that, because low-level Pokemon tend to have poor Attack/Special Attack stats, even the most powerful moves are pretty meh, so you run out of PP real fast.
(Herf...PP.)
Also, lemme tell you: I absolutely love the Running Shoes button on the touch screen. Tap it once and Running Shoes are equipped without you having to hold down the B button!
Some of the touch screen features are a little weird, though. Whenever you open Bill's PC, if you want to move Pokemon around - which moves most smoothly with the stylus - the box with your party appears directly above the PC box, so you have to tap a few extra buttons to move the party box away from the PC box, which breaks the flow. Also, it's gotten me into the habit of trying to rearrange my party by sliding them with the stylus, which doesn't happen at all - tapping a particular Pokemon just brings up the "summary/switch/item" menu. The dragging thing would have been really nice though.
Otherwise, it's pretty cool. ;D That's about as in-depth as I'm gonna get though, because I've noticed that you guys really don't seem to care about those big old in-depth impressions I write up.

I'VE NEVER HEARD ANY GIRL HAVING THAT NAME. Well, I've never heard of any boys with that name either. I've also never heard of anyone named Red, Blue, Gold, and Silver...

Red's a pretty common nickname, and for some odd reason, so's Blue. I actually knew a Red once. His real name was Sean, but we called him Red. He was a pretty good kid, but he moved to California and I never saw him again. And he still owes me $2.
Okay, that story's a lie, but Red and Blue are pretty common nicknames.

I used to think Tate of Hoenn was a girl too.
It seems the NPC name for the male protagonist is Ethan this time.

So, anyone made it to the Goldenrod Game Corner yet? I'm there, and I'm addicted. So yeah, I was able to get my Spinarak, got my Gastly (damn, it has no good attacks yet >_<), Toto-awesome-dile and my Mareep evolved battling Bugsy. So far, I've found both my Gym Leader Challenges tough (I only had Gastly and Totodile on the first one), and Bugsy's Scyther was pretty tough with its TM move.

I haven't gotten the game yet, but I was surprised about one thing.
I went to college today and all sorts of people had their pokewalkers out and were using them. People I never would have guessed at playing Pokemon were out in full force raising their teams and battling.

Wait, Gold's name became Ethan? That's a bit strange that they'd change it.

Yesterday, I went to the GameStop to obtain my preordered copies of both versions, and one of the employees asked me if I want to give the figures to the kids, and I said no, because they are the main reason why I preordered both versions.
I'm about to play them soon.

I knew that Bugsy's a boy since all of his non-English European names, including the German one, clearly identify him as a male. But to be honest, I also thought he could easily be a female especially when I saw him in the anime. Also, what did you think when you saw Fantina for the first time? ;D

That's a bit strange that they'd change it. More like "first given a name". Also, what did you think when you saw Fantina for the first time? ;D Tucker!!

I would like Fantina more if she wasn't french. I'm surprised she shaves her armpits.
Anyway.
My love for aforementioned Running Shoes button comes with a stupid, stupid downside. How come running or riding bikes causes my wild Pokemon encounter rate to skyrocket? It's like I'm being punished for wanting to go fast, either by sucking up my time, or by sucking up my money as I buy Repels. I mean, yeah, from a realistic standpoint it makes sense, but we've gone through three different sets of games with the Running Shoes without this problem (RSE, FRLG, DPP). It's a game mechanic that really could have stood to be excluded.
I beat Morty last night, but only barely. I had only two Pokemon left by the time I beat him, and even then I had to pop a couple Revives. His Gengar is pretty lethal, and it's hax that he was able to attack almost every turn even though I'd paralyzed him.
