The first generation had some pretty catchy names for Pokemon didn't they? But as the generations went on, the names got weirder and then I found myself mispronouncing their names.
I'm still uncertain how to say certain Pokemon names but here you can post various Pokemon names you have trouble with or names you mispronounced. Maybe we can shed a light on their proper way of saying them, or just get a good laugh at ourselves on how we used to say their names!
Okay for me:
Rayquaza, I used to pronounce as Ray-quAH-za. Until I found out it was Ray-quAY-za.
I also pronounces Gardevior like "behavior"
I still have a habit of saying Kee-oh-ger for Kyogre.

Rayquaza, I used to pronounce as Ray-quAH-za. Until I found out it was Ray-quAY-za. I still do...because Ray-quAY-za sounds too american. I also pronounce Uxie as Uck-see, which ,according to one of my brothers, is wrong (not that I care, though). |

Gardevoir is difficult to miss if your spell it correctly first ;D
I'm interested about where did you guys find about those (not meaning websites, but official or licensed products). They are in a sticker book for Diamond and Pearl, but I don't know about Pokémon from previous Pokédex generations.

Let's see....
Gardevoir - I pronounce this with the last R silent, so it sounds kinda French: "Gar-deh-vwah."
Rayquaza - I really feel like I'm butchering this one, but it feels right to me to say "Ray kah za."
Dialga - "Die all gah." I can't use that "Dee all gah" pronunciation, sounds messed up to me. Likewise, the Pal in Palkia rhymes with "mall" when I say it. Going "Pal key uh" doesn't feel right.
Arceus - "RC Us." Couple reasons for this: For one, RC Us sounds better to me than anything else, and for another, it sounds like my old high school district's initials, RCS, making it easy for me to remember "RC Us."

I think the only one I've pronounced differently from the way the anime ended up doing it was Darkrai. I thought it was "Dark ray" at first.
I think mostly it's easy to figure out how they're pronounced if you can figure out the origin of their name. Like Rayquaza = Ray Quasar.
How is Ekans pronounced, though? The anime said it with a short E, but the announcer in the 3D battle games used a long one.
EDIT: Shrikeswind, I'm pretty sure "Die al gah" is the correct way, anyway. It's how they say it in all the movies, at least.

Here are Uxie's and Dialga's, Poké pals.   I don't regard this stuff as canon, though, but perhaps a convention. The important thing are their in-game cries, their anime cries, the names themselves. Pronounce them the way you like. Of course, I pronounce it /dee-alga/ because I'm Hispanic! |

Bonsly is an interesting one. When it was first shown in the anime (I think it was a movie) they pronounced it Bons-LEE but latter it was pronounced Bons-LIE.

That's correct. That was Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the last Pokémon movie produced by 4Kids.
The same goes for Regice, which was pronounced like "Re-gi-ice" in that movie, but later pronounced like "Re-gice" during the last episodes of the Battle Frontier season and in the Hoenn PokéRap.
In both cases, the difference can be noted in both the Pokémon's cry and how they're referred to by human voices.

I pretty much pronounce them all wrong until I hear them said in the anime. I'm sure that was even true of some of the first-gen Pokemon.

Huh. It was definitely Re-gi-ice in the Japanese version of the movie. Its voice in that clip is unchanged from the voice in my *cough*perfectly legal*cough* Japanese copy. That was the first movie I watched in Japanese, 'cause I couldn't wait for the translation. Then when the translation came the ending was so horrifically butchered that I quit bothering with the English versions altogether. Shame, that seems to be the only one of the movies that America decided to fuck up.  |

On an unrelated note, I pronounce "Giygas" (as in the final boss of Earthbound / Mother 2) "Guy-Gus." It feels right to me.
