Other evidence of linear progression: There's a checkpoint from NSMBWii in the most recent trailer. Also, the section with the speedy red Yoshi looks like it'd be perfect for a 3D Sonic game. You things are sad when the Mario team makes Sonic levels better than SEGA. I hope the inclusion of all the Yoshi stuff in SMG2 leads to a possible spinoff starring Yoshi. Super Yoshi Galaxy? Yoshi's Planet? Who knows...

Piantas: Linear progression: Upon close inspection there is a Lakitu next to that Pianta statue in the distance. Also a theory about that Linear progression picture. Notice the Mario Planet on top of what seem to be different Galaxies? Perhaps the Mario Planet is either: A) A new miniature hub. B) The means of traveling from Galaxy to Galaxy. And the starting point for every level. C) Both

This reminds me of the perfect ending in Wario Land 1, where Wario gets a whole planet to himself. Maybe Yoshi could find a way to get a whole world to his own...

If Wario's planet appears, I will laugh.

That boxart makes it seem like Super Mario & Yoshi Galaxy. That's a good thing There seems to be a galaxy with giant enemies in the trailer. I found it weird that they only placed one Giant Goomba in Galaxy 1's one-time introduction stage. Makes sense to have them roaming around a new GIANT GALAXY I remember keeping myself completely spoiler-free when it came to the first SMG; I saw the demo Nintendo ran when they first announced it and then maybe two screenshots of Buoy Base...believe me, it was soooooo worth it. So this time I'm doing the same thing; I haven't seen anything since last year's E3 (I think?), so the closer we get to release, the less frequently I'll visit this topic ;D That's what I did with the first Mario Galaxy. Made for a better playing experience finding out all that stuff while actually playing it. 'Oh hey it's the SMB3 screw neato!'. This time I'm not gonna bother, mostly because it's pretty hard without Smash DOJO spoiling me every day

Makes sense to have them roaming around a new GIANT GALAXY You know, it's also a classic world archetype missing in recent Mario platformers. I mean most of them were back in New Super Mario Bros. [Wii], save for the giant world which has been forgotten in favor of a mountain world.

Notice how the Mario planet is being used as a cursor above the Galaxy titled World 2? I think the Mario planet is a means of transportation rather than a level. So it might actually be a comet. Maybe a Luma transformed into it for Mario?

I'm not really too keen on the idea of having Pianta's making a reappearence in the series...especially if it means that we have to deal with ones that chuck you around.

We've had mountain worlds at least since Mario World ("Choco Island"), and Mario 64 had "Tall Tall Mountain" while New Super Mario Bros. used one for one of its worlds (World 7?). Giant worlds are actually less frequent... I think they only appear in Mario 3 and Mario 64. Can anybody think of other examples? Not that I'm not excited as hell for a giant world. I miss those stages! Also holding out for another "Pipe Maze" and, possibly, a forest or jungle galaxy (they never had one in the first game :/)

It's World 6 for both the DS and Wii version of NSMB that are the mountain worlds (really could have maintained the spirit of a giant world by featuring some levels with those kinds of things).
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any other giant worlds besides those ones. I too am in favor of another pipe maze place. I would have liked to see NSMB (both DS and Wii) maintain that in their forest worlds, which seem plausible enough for that kind of thing. Maybe map-wise with it for the Wii version. Oh well...

"we want them to understand as easy as possible where they should go next"
They keep making these 3D Mario games more and more linear. I don't like that. I want to feel like there is no place you need to go next, like you can go anywhere, choose the missions to pursue, and explore.

I pretty much feel the same way. I never found the HUB annoying, and Flying Mario was fun, but never used much Anyway, I'm going to miss the Hud, for sure. It would have been better if there was an option to turn it on, or just go like in the 2D Mario games, stage selection screen to stage to stage selection screen, etc.

I'm glad. I'm sick of running around damn hubs in 3D Platformers, when all I want to do is go to the actual levels. Also, limiting the amount of choices should produce a more natural difficulty curve, which is cool.
