As for Yoshi's Island... why does it matter when it's set? How would that impact on the gameplay? Get the basics right and then work around it. I swear, if fans were allowed to make games, I'd give up gaming forever As much as we all love gameplay that doesn't mean the fans don't want to see other things happen too. That's what being a fan is about, appreciation for the universe as well as the games themselves. And your hopes to see that universe expand. I love the Yoshi's gameplay, but I also love the universe, and I'd love to see that universe expand to something greater.

I never said change gameplay or to cut Yoshi's tie to Mario (except in his own series, where it's getting a bit silly to see him still being dino-raised.) I only wish for the knot to loosen. Tingle him. Yeah, he's still prominent in his father series but you can hardly tell in his own.

Well Tingle took a GREAT leap away from Zelda really. Besides Rupees there's very little ties to the Zelda games. The characters are all his own, the world is all his own, the story is all his own.

Yeah, but he's still a recurring Zelda character, making him more closely tied to Hyrule than Wario and DK are to the Mushroom Kingdom, but less than Yoshi. To explain what they mean, a Kong is a kid who lives on his own, no longer with his mother except for Christmas and the occasional visit; a Tingle is a kid in school, still living with his mother but is sometimes elsewhere; and a Yoshi is a fetus, still attached to the mother but technically a separate entity. Before the split, they're technically the same entity.

I wouldn't call Tingle recurring anymore. All he's had in the past 5 years are references in the form of Purlo and some posters and figurines in the DS games. Well, as long as there is SOME plot. There's obviously something afoot as we see both doomships and shadow Marios. In my dream Galaxy 2, it would probably involve something like Mario and Luigi both getting sent back into space to "remove them from the planet" so Bowser can take it over. In the process, they find the Koopalings have now conquered various sections of space and have to defeat them to make it back to the Mushroom World and fight Bowser at a classic Dark World style area. Does anybody else believe the Koopalings could appear in this game? Not only were they brought back by New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but you know how related are they to Airships, which are coming back as seen in the trailer.

I have a feeling the Koopa Kids will re-appear from time to time in the 2D platformer Mario games, while the 3D games stick with Bowser Jr. and new goofy/huge bosses.
Ofcourse it would be awesome if they did appear. As would Tatanga making a boss cameo.

That's what being a fan is about, appreciation for the universe as well as the games themselves. And your hopes to see that universe expand. I love the Yoshi's gameplay, but I also love the universe, and I'd love to see that universe expand to something greater. I hate to point out the obvious, but loving a game so much that you become curious about events that occur outside of the location/timeframe of the game is where speculation and fanfic steps in. If Nintendo "expanded" the universe by focusing a game in a different time/place to the original, then all they would achieve in doing that is doubling the amount of fan speculation about what happens outside both of these events (or indeed what occurred between them). Take a look at the Sonic the Hedgehog series as a prime example of a universe that just keeps expanding and expanding, at the expense of the gameplay that made everybody love it in the first place. The result? The only games that are loved are the ones that attempt to recreate the gameplay of the originals, while everything else is despised by all but the most obsessive "universe lovers". The same was nearly true of Mega Man, but Capcom has had their greatest success in many years with their return to the style and gameplay of the original games. So look at the Mario series, a universe so simple but weird that it refuses to be defined or canonised. The gameplay is built then the story and universe is built around it. The Yoshi series is a spinoff from this universe. There's no deep back story, there's no deep characters, there's nothing you could do to it without actually making it worse, unless it was to the benefit of the gameplay. Keep the expanded universe in the realm of fan fiction, where it can be safely ignored by all but the obsessives.

That was the reason I made that Fanon Thread on the Fan Art/Fic Board, which now that I think of it could probably use a revisit. I was thinking of maybe setting it up like a Q/A section where people ask inane questions about Mario and I try to give as plausible an explanation as the games would allow. ;D

Now THAT'D be cool. But first and foremost, I believe the Koopalings could appear in this game. Something else I'd like to see appear in 3D is the Hammer Bros. I'm not sure, but I don't think they've made the switch yet.

But Fryguy you misunderstand, we're not talking about making things deeper (which would destroy Yoshi) We're talking about severing his ties. Giving him a story that doesn't involve Mario characters, just Yoshi.
Wario did this, Tingle did this, why not Yoshi?

That's all it really is we want. To quote Peter Griffin, "Bonnie, you've been pregnant for 2 years now, either have the baby or don't."

I reckon that Morton, Roy, or Ludwig (any one of the three) would go for the speed bump-ish shockwave approach when they land from jumping.

While the Koopalings being in Galaxy 2 would be awesome (significantly more awesome than Sonic in Galaxy 2, natch), I don't think it would happen. Right now, they feel more like they've found a home in spin-off games, what with M&L:SSS, SPP (even tho it was only planned there) and NSMBW. I'd love to be proven wrong tho. ;D
