I had this crazy dream last night that this game added a 9th Koopa Kid named Chester Koopa, but it was a gothy girl Koopaling. So confused. Though, logically, this would be the time to start retconning in new characters from that era...
Seems like the Penguin and Prop Suits are the only ones, according to the intro. Please prove me wrong Nintendo. Please.

Well, since this is a sequel to the DS game, there will likely be both a Tower and a Castle for each of eight worlds. Rumor has it that you fight the Koopaling of the World in both, with the castle fight being a modified version. Obviously, the final world where you would fight Bowser in his Castle would ALSO need a boss for the Tower as well, and using the established character of Bowser Jr as the boss for that would make the most sense. Not only that, Bowser Jr was also the prime mover of the previous New Super Mario Bros. Basically, despite the Koopalings being in this game, it also makes sense that Bowser Jr would be in this game.

I thought the Koopalings were the bosses of each castle, with Bowser Jr. as the boss of every fortress?
EDIT: Nevermind, I remember now. The castle bosses are a Kamek magic rematch with the Koopalings after beating them at the fortress.
Maybe Jr. only appears during the fight with Bowser at the end. Whenever he's been around he's always taken part in the final boss somehow. Or maybe this game will have 9 worlds instead of the usual 8.

Perhaps Jr. is supposed to be Final Boss, and then Miyamoto's surprising Final Final Boss battle is ACTUALLY Bowser! OMG! What a twist Shiggy!

Here's the answer the boss question, taken from this transcript.- I'm not supposed to talk about it, but the final boss in the game is something that will feel fresh and new, but will definitely feel like a parody of a previous game.- Miyamoto on why there's no playable Peach, or Wario: "I thought it'd be nice to have her as a playable character, but the toad characters had a similar physique to a Mario character than Peach does. And if one of the four had a dress, we'd have to come up with a special programming to handle how the skirt is handled in the gameplay, and that's really the only reason why Peach isn't playable (laughs). Of course If we had Wario in there we'd have to program a way to make him fart. (laughs) " - Miyamoto jokingly says that there will not be a Nintencats game - add in players at any time from the world map - Free For All levels unlock after you complete them in Story Mode - use Star Coins to unlock 'Hint Movies', which shows you tricks like Infinite 1-ups, Super Skills and locations of Star Coins - Coin Battle features some 'coin outlines' that have to be passed before they turn into coins - North American boxart is the first all-red boxart, with a foil-stamped Wii logo - Nintendo returned to a classic style because it suited multiplayer better, and they wanted to reach a wide audience - "We could have made an online Mario game, but the effort and resources you devote to putting it online will result in sacrificing something else. This type of experience is better suited for the face to face, in the same room experience. Of course, in the future there's the possibility of exploring remote connectivity in a Mario game." - Miyamoto on achievements: "Well, the first thing is that I'm not really well versed in the 360 achievement system,I spend most of my time working on our own games, I don't have a lot of time to look at what other people are doing. In this case, playing the game in a certain way and have something that unlocks is something we've been doing for years. I don't expect everyone to apply that idea to their games, but we've been doing it for years. " - Miyamoto's specific comments about Super Guide and Zelda: "Let's use Zelda as an example, introducing it opens up a Pandora's Box: do we solve the puzzles, do we show how to solve it in order to make them understand it, do we show the whole solution? It can be a difficult system, but we do see some value in it. " - Miyamoto believes 2d is better for multiplayer platforming: "I think that multiplayer platforming is better suited to a 2D environment than a 3D one. Moving forward, developers will look at the objectives and make their decision on the benefits of each style. You have to have the courage to not get attached to the appearance of the game and pursuit the experience."

Gah! I am already really looking forward to this game, and this is just pouring petrol on the fire!
I really hope the claims that it's going to be challenging prove true. Even "Yoshi's Island" levels of challenge would be welcome from a series that has had the same controls for so long it's quite easy for an expert not to die.

I'm really excited for this game. I love Mario platformers in general, and it's good to hear that this one will be more challenging. The games I played as a kid and similar games of today just don't offer the same challenge anymore. Plus, Bowser's seven original kids return! There were among my favourite characters in my childhood, and they still are, and I was disappointed that they were replaced by a Baby Bowser-lookalike. Oh, and riding on Yoshi is back to 2D platformers, too! I had this crazy dream last night that this game added a 9th Koopa Kid named Chester Koopa, but it was a gothy girl Koopaling. So confused. Though, logically, this would be the time to start retconning in new characters from that era... They could make a contest to design the 8th Koopaling. Anyway, I'm a bit confused about what Bowser's children (excluding Junior) are more commonly called in English now: Koopalings or Koopa Kids? Or is it just a matter of choice?

Mario Party ruined the Koopa Kid term with THEIR Baby Bowser lookalikes. However, with Kamek, Bowser Jr, AND the Koopalings apparently confirmed, it's practically a Koopa family reunion considering Bowser is likely to show up. Only way it could get more fanwanky is if Morton Sr. shows up.

Oh man, what an epic trailer. Thanks for sharing. I like the part where the area is mostly dark, but you can illuminate your path with fireballs. Has that ever been done before?

I don't think so, but it's an awesome idea nonetheless.
If everything that is being said about this game so far is true, I am looking forward to this more than I think I've looked forward to a game since Brawl!
IT HAD BETTER NOT LET ME DOWN! Nintendo's done a lot of that lately...

Like how I hate fog-of-war in Fire Emblem and Advance Wars, as well as those dark areas in Yoshi's Island series, I don't think I'll like those dark stages.
And, before anyone says further about the whole "family" thing, the Koopalings aren't said to be Bowser's kids in any way within the games. And things look like they aren't Bowser's kids this time as well.
New SMB Wii is already kinda letting me down with no evidance of seeing a 1P-playable Luigi (aside from Super Guide).

I'm loving every bit of this game so far. Only about 3 more weeks to go!
And somehow, I found my way back to posting again on here.
