Really? That hated?
I'd hardly call him a tragedy, since he seems to have a good following.

Waluigi is crotchtastic! I didn't think much of that feature really. But then the naming process is pretty much common knowledge, even though some are still "unsure". I expect more from Retronauts, and their lovely music.

I do like Waluigi for his comic relief. Strictly speaking, I won't really like a specific Mario character too much. Unlike my fandoms, I play Mario because of its gameplay, not graphics or individual characters or something like that. the name Bowser is never used in Japan What?

Wow, I didn't know they threw in a sneaky reference to the American name in MKWii! That's pretty awesome.
I actually started a big rant on here about the Koopa Kids, citing sources and quoting manuals and whatnot, and then closed the window before replying... dammit!
The summary went like this:
In Super Mario Bros. 3, the American manual gives the Koopa Kids their full names and repeatedly states that they are Bowser's children. The Japanese manual doesn't even give them names - they are no more than Bowser's lackeys and airship guardians.
In Super Mario World, the American manual descriptions are in line with the Japanese depiction, with no specific comment stating they are Bowser's children. Only their first names are used (as Japan had also adopted the first names NoA created by this point).
However, in Super Mario World the game, a number of the Koopa Kids' full names are used in the text that appears after you destroy their castles. These sections also introduce some personality traits that were not in the original Japanese text.
Basically, everything the Koopa Kids are is taken from the American translations. In Japan they were Bowser's henchmen, but only now have they been confirmed to be Bowser's seven children. Whether their personalities will be transferred as well has yet to be seen (Ludwig playing music, Iggy being insane, etc.)
The only thing I wish for is that the SMB3/SMW cartoon shows are wiped from our memories for eternity. Sure, they gave each one a distinct personality, but these are not, and never will be, official depictions.
As for Bowser Jr... He's not universally hated, is he? I always assumed he was only disliked for "replacing" the Koopa Kids. Well, they're back, and sitting alongside Bowser Jr. So we can like him and his little growling scarf mask now, right?

Let's see... I guess you're right, Fry, in that Jr is hated only for the "replacing" part. I guess putting them all together is a good way to deal with it, plus this officially put an end to the "It's just an earlier story and Bower Jr is Ludwig before the others are bornt" theory. According to the Famitsu report I put here before, they're referred to as Bowser's subordinates. Although I don't trust Famitsu much (they're biased), I'd say... there's no official proof that they are / are not Bowser's kids as of now. I'd still say no for now. In Japan they were Bowser's henchmen, but only now have they been confirmed to be Bowser's seven children. Again, where? I don't think you've put any actual reference here yet. And no, Wikipedia cannot be trusted, even for the Japanese version.

Perhaps there is no source and it will turn out they got the information from an English news site, which is going to cause more and more problems as far as localisation is concerned.
As strong and well-organised as Wikipedia Japan's content is, they're appalling at citing their sources. Perhaps they will continue being subordinates. Perhaps not. We shall see.

I never really hated Bowser Jr. I mean, yeah, compared to the Koopalings he was awfully bland looking, and by the time Sunshine came around I was tired of Idiot Ball/ Idiot Plot impostors, but I've come to realize that he's actually a mainstay in the Mario universe now and there's nothing really going to change that. (Also note that Bowser Jr. has been in most every non-RPG/KartSportsParty Mario game since Sunshine, and Waluigi in all his "awesomeness" has not? Oh yeah, I went there.)

The lists of characters, items and places in articles on many Mario titles and other video games in Japanese Wikipedia would never be allowed this way at the English counterpart anymore.

Just wanna say something. I do despise Bowser Jr. I do. But the thing is, I hate Junior for reasons that I do NOT want changed: He's a whiny, obnoxious, loud-mouthed, cantankerous little twit who needs to stop being so stuck up and realize there's a real world out there. He's like Draco Malfoy, but with balls. It's a great villain type.

So you love to hate him? ;D I just wonder what kind of personalities the Koopalings will be said to have, if they're said to have any at all. The only hints we've even had are the little blurbs about them in SMW's castle clear messages and those unused boss battle sprites in SPP. Not really enough.

Yeah, much like how I hate Ganondorf, but don't want him to change because he's everything right with villain creation. Except, obviously, with different styles of evil, i.e., a spoiled brat as opposed to a murderous genius. Oddly enough, I hate Bowser Jr. on a different level from Sephiroth, who I sum up as a pussified version of Ganondorf. AND HOW DOES HIS SWORD EXIST!?
I'd go on, but this Mario, not Final Fantasy.

You don't like Jr because he's too stereotypical.
This way, you can dislike Link as well for being a stereotype hero. Or Zelda as a prisoner-to-be-rescued.
Fry, yeah. You know, just because it's Japanese doesn't mean it's trustable. Actually, I think the Japanese internet is even more "horrible" than the western one.

You completely misunderstood what he was saying YL.
He meant that he likes BJ and Ganondorf as villains, by hating them the way villains should be hated.

Exactly. I despise Bowser Jr. for being a jack-ass, not for being a Gary Stu or a nutless pile of poo or what-have-you. My hatred for Bowser Jr. is like my hatred for a real person. Junior is a good villain because of how he makes me hate him.
