Only sort of related, but Nintendo set up a Mario museum in New York to celebrate the release of NSMB Wii. You can check out a video of it on Kotaku. Most of it is stuff I'm sure you've all seen, but you might see something new.

I don't have the game, but was actively looking for spoilers. I'd say the levels are quite diverse this time. Definitely look into the last hidden level, it's fun (although very easy).
I don't think New SMB to be much inferior, especially when compared to SMW. SMW's coding is rather lazy and not diversed enough. SMW doesn't get as much stage-specific elements like other games do.

Yeah, don't you just hate it when the game works perfectly, but was coded in a lazy way? I much prefer horrifically glitchy games with perfectly neat coding.

I think YL isn't talking about the gameplay itself, but the amount of effort that went into each level. Pretty much any element in a level is going to be reused in another level in SMW. You don't have any incidents of a unique stage element (like Kuribo's Shoe or a giant Wiggler) in Super Mario World. That said, I'm not entirely sure that's true. SMW had a lot of cool stuff (like the dolphins), but unlike SMB3... the team decided they thought it was so cool, they should just use it again. I don't see that as being laziness, I see that as making the full use of everything they incorporated into the game.

Well, I'm actually talking about the number of unique elements here. Ever noticed how easy it is to use LunarMagic? They don't have things like a Ginat Land stage with doors mirroring both sides in SMB3, or the individually spinning stage elements as in New SMB Wii. With the exception of 6-2, SMW is made up of an array of background elements, sprites and commands launched upon reaching a flag - mostly without individual programming.
I'm not saying it's bad, but this way, stage elements don't diverse enough.

HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Apparently, I just got this game, and I'm currently starting on World 2. This is great so far!
Yoshi can't eat the Hammer Bros, only their hammers. Weak.

Now I'm wanting to know the fastest route to beat the game because it's what I do for New SMB DS, to beat the game before exploring around.

I always felt the game seems better if you explore and try to beat the game at the same time.

I refuse to use warps on my first playthrough, mainly to see what all the worlds and level are like.

I'll be tracking this down tomorrow. It'll be the first new game I've bought all year (finally have some cash!).

I always felt the game seems better if you explore and try to beat the game at the same time. I agree. Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy felt a lot longer when you just take the time to enjoy the game by exploring everywhere and beating the game at the same time. Also, the original Super Mario Bros. is too short when you use the Warp Pipes but when you don't use them and just go through all 32 levels, it is when you truly enjoy and appreciate the experience. I also do that in Super Mario World when I try to clear all the levels and find all the exits rather than speedrunning and using the Star Road straight to Bowser's Castle.

But then, beating the game first will make the final discovery look a lot less like "oh, it's over already?"
Given how Mario games are short in nature, I'll still want to beat it first.

But Yoshi STILL can't eat the Hammer Bro.

Could Yoshi eat the Hammer Bros in SMW?
