I haven't even had my DS for an entire year. Of course they'd announce a new handheld.

So, does this mean the DSi XL, in a weird, roundabout kind of way, equals the GBA Micro?

So, does this mean the DSi XL, in a weird, roundabout kind of way, equals the GBA Micro? That's actually been brought up around the internet. It's funny because the Micro was just a smaller GBA, while the XL is a larger DS. Does a size change really make a difference to people?

I disliked the Micro because it was smaller, I kind of like the XL because it is bigger, although I've only seen it on TV once and that was last night. I'd only ever get it if my DSi broke right now. Then I still have my DS its pretty crap but it would do.

An image of what might be the motherboard for the 3DS has been exploding all over the internet. It looks too bulky for them to use in production, but it maybe a test model. The name on the FCC filing was the CTR.

An interesting tidbit form IGN. Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. According to several developer sources, the 3DS device is not using the NVIDIA Tegra mobile chipset, a rumor that's been floating around since 2009. - IGNThis is surprising . . . Though people are saying the processing may be for doing a double image or whatever for creating the 3D with out glasses effect. But to keep my expectations low for E3, I'm not beilieving this. (IGN's Kid Icarius revival E3 rumor . . .)

A handheld console almost as powerful as the 360 and PS3? Really?
Grain of salt.

Another rumor.- once again, no TEGRA chip - Japanese partner for the 3D acceleration hardware - codename is "Nintendo CTR" - this matches up with the FFC board picture from a few weeks back - FCC board images may have been made public before they should have been At least it's little more a week until we find out the truth.

I'm interested to see what this all comes to. It sounds like it's building towards something good. I always take claims of processing power with a grain of salt... but a cynic can extract the truthful tidbit from that. And that is Nintendo has got a new chip that will hopefully be better than the PSP and iPhone platforms. So, a return to black borders for backwards compatibility then?

Hmm, a couple weeks ago, I would've felt lukewarm towards this "as powerful as a PS360" rumor. Most, if not all, forms of 3D in games require the image to be rendered twice, usually resulting in severe frame rate drops. It's not out of the question to assume the 3DS might need that sort of power to run smoothly.
However, with the news that the 3D aspect can supposedly be turned off, I am slightly more intrigued. If we had, say, our Zelda's and Metroid's in HD, and our Tetris's, Nintendog's, and Imagine Party Cooking Dress-up Babies in 3D, I would be all over that.
A mix of the two could be interesting as well. I wouldn't mind an HD quality Zelda with 3D puzzles, or something like that.

I swear to god if Nintendo makes me wear 3D glasses I will punch babies. Guys, there is nothing more annoying then having to wear glasses over glasses you're already wearing.
Well, okay, I can think of one thing more annoying than that. Have you ever tried eating cotton candy with any serious amount of facial hair? You'll be picking that stuff out of your beard all night.

Wasn't '3D without glasses' the very first thing we knew about this thing?

Yes it was. Don't worry Tei. No stupid glasses. It's an autostereoscopic screen. Currently both Sharp and Hitachi have developed small screens with this technology, and Hitachi has released a 3D mobile phone display in Japan. Sharp only announced their screen after the 3DS had been revealed, leading some to hope it will be Sharp's larger (3.5 inch) screen over Hitachi's (3.1 inch) screen that will be used. Although some reports suggest both companies may be involved.
