I'm kinda relieved that someone did tell Iwata on the issue with the number of controllers that can be used. I'm not entirely satisfied, but maybe in the coming year they would end up with allowing multiple controllers...

It's because of baseless nonsense like OMG TEH NOSTALGIA.

It's because of baseless nonsense like OMG TEH NOSTALGIA. Reboots, ya mean? Maybe. SM3DLand, DKCR, etc? Well, what can we do. Besides it might be also because SSB4 was announced right after 2 and half years after Brawl.

The idea that Nintendo hasn't created many characters lately is also willing blindness. The most recent characters added to Brawl were Ike from 2005 and Lucas from 2006, and the most recently tapped franchise for a playable was Pikmin from 2001.
So, the insinuation is that Nintendo hasn't created any new franchises for 10 years, and no notable new characters for 5.
Here's a few notable series from within that 10 year timeframe, most of them with an international release, that have the potential for playable characters: Mii Series Chibi-Robo Series Golden Sun Series Magical Vacation Series The Legendary Starfy Series Drill Dozer Fossil Fighters Series Captain Rainbow Xenoblade Chronicles FlingSmash
Not to mention a plethora of Japan-only RPGs that would be ripe for the pickin' (hey, it worked for Fire Emblem!)

Fry's true with this. I think they might've though been referring at after-Brawl games, which were mostly reboots like Boo said, with some examples said by Fry.

I'm pretty sure Sakurai said the same thing about Brawl... Hang on... Here it is: All-Star Mode on Smash Bros. DojoAnd yet 6/10 of the series on my list up there were available for Brawl. Some show up as Assist trophies when they could have worked as playables (we all know this - we talked about it enough during SSBB speculation). Sure, they're no Mario or Link, but some of them are definitely an Ike or Lucas

Hmm, I wonder how much NEW series having playables we got for Brawl, anyway?
Lets see:
Pit
R.O.B
and Olimar. (Not counting the 3rd party)
So that makes as... 3 new series. (-l-i-) Pretty much we'll be just expecting three new series or less per game?
Now I'm more doubting it. This guy's really out of characters now if he'll just put more characters to already represented franchises.

I've always wondered why Sakurai doesn't have the balls to make another IP himself. But Iwata has to keep chasing him for this yet again.
As for this next SSB, I'm not sure if he knows how he's going to go about it this time. (And no, he doesn't exactly know everything about every Nintendo franchise. Deal with it) It's not going to make him the next Miyamoto, that's for sure.

Ironically when Sakurai left HAL he said it was because he was tired of always being expected to make sequels. And everything he's done since leaving has been... a sequel.

They try to go too far with SSB-craziness, sequel after sequel, and it'll be no time for him to leave Nintendo for good. I can see that kinda happening... (-=>=-)

That is what happened. He left Nintendo entirely to form Sora, his own independant company. But now he's at Project Sora, a seperate company from Sora which is part of Nintendo. It's very confusing.

Told ya. (-=>=-)
Makes me wonder if he either annoyed to do things for Nintendo, or is he's just lazy to do anything much for his present situation.

In terms of sequels, your gotta remember how many freaken Kirby games there are (including cancelled versions) Look at that list! (even though he left Hal back in 2004? He still had various degrees of involvement of like 15 Kirby games (and possibly 3 more that were cancelled). With most Nintendo systems getting at least 2 Kirby games (counting the cancelled ones) When compared to Smash Bros, he's only worked on 3 titles with a output rate of 1 game per Nintendo system. Kid Icarus ain't much of a sequel gameplay wise to the previous KI games (it aint a sidescroller, and also Sakurai never worked on the originals so for him, it's probably like working on a whole new franchise EDIT: that's also part of the obscure 3rd person shooter genre, that resembles Cabal, Wild Guns and Sin & Punishment). Also who knows what could in store from Sakurai post Smash Bros 4? Who knows what the next Smash could even be? Maybe there might be a serious genre change up? Maybe some genre that is completly original that no one saw coming? * Eg, think how the Defence of the Anicents/Dota Warcraft mod created an entrie new genre of Action-RTS or how original/modern Valkyria Chronicles was for the startegy genre. * Smash Bros 4 real time, turn based card battleling action game , with a 1st person view (from the card's perspective) and minor flight sim elements . . . the MMO!( Begins thinking of two hobo's throwing cards into a hat, yeah I know right? It didn't sound/look that simple when I thougt of it.)
