Yes, you heard me. A console manufacturer is making a console. Never thought I'd see the day. Edit: Some details. - console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 - Nintendo is looking to recapture the hardcore market - 1080p resolutions - Nintendo will release a pre-announcement this month - full reveal expected at E3 - backwards compatible with current Wii softwareNormally I'd say this is something we should keep an eye on, but we'd all do that regardless.

So it's time to take out my GameCube again and have Wii take a hike? Interesting. But if it's really backward compatable with Wii only... then yes, Nintendo is very horrible at maintaining backward compatibility. This alone won't make hardcore players stay. (What do they play? GC controller games!)
Better than PS3? We'll see. 1080p is way too low of a resolution. It's not even future technology. My home PC does better than that.
Well, from this information alone, it does not have much appeal to me at all. I'll wait until E3 to seriously look into it.

Wow, I can't believe I'm the first to post here Drat, I was beaten... WOW. If all things said here are true, and F-Zero Ω is one of the launch Titles, I'm almost sold. Haha, I love it how I'm saying that even before any official information has come out (I'm usually against getting hyped up on things that haven't been confirmed). Either way, if this is true, and that they want to "recapture" the Hardcore Audience, then I can't wait to see what the online will be like. That's the thing I rant about the most about the Wii. I've got no time to get together with my friends to play videogames, so that's why I bought L4D and TF2, to be able to turn on, play for 30 mins and then return to life. Either way, it was about damn time, too. F*ck you Reggie, with your 45M consoles sold...

This isn't confirmed, it's still in the rumor mill.

This isn't confirmed, it's still in the rumor mill. *shrug* IGN seems confident enough. If I had reason for doubt, I probably wouldn't have bothered making a thread. But, well, I don't. So I did.

It's undeniable that Nintendo's making new console hardware, and it's seems like hardly any 3rd party devs are supporting the Wii with original, good quality titles . . . It just feels like their stating the obvious about what Nintendo next console will have (HD, trying to get hardcore) They haven't mentioned anything about on line, or media format and such. I just don't like getting aboard the hype train, it feels like it would end in too much disappointment. Also it's coming from IGN . . . IGNgnorance Remember how they felt like there would be a Kid Icarus game announced every year at E3 because of them? (And then back in like 08 (i think) they went at the very, very last minute and said they was no KI announcement) And in a bizarre irony, they never predicted KI for last year . . . Though it appear there are more sources talking about it now. But maybe there just jumping on hype train as well . . . In the end E3 will reveal if this is all true or not. Rant over.

You will also recall that they had reports on the new GoldenEye and "a Retro Studios Donkey Kong game" before they were announced. And as far as I could tell, Kid Icarus was never more than a baseless "just for fun" prediction with no backing whatsoever. Again, I will start doubting them when I have a reason to.

Maybe I'll just pretend that nothing happened.
3DS is out already, so until E3...

It's their tendency to BS through April coupled with their historic biases and topped off with the fact that they give out predictions disguised as facts. An accurate prediction is perfectly fine, but it's just that, a prediction. IGN is full of crap. Always has been. So I'll wait and watch, but keep my lot in with the doubters. Also, " console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360." If it's next gen, this is not surprising.

As you would expect, there've been a fuuuuuck ton of rumors surrounding this thing over the past two days. Most of them are too bullshitty for even me to believe, so I'll just link you to GoNintendo's top stories page and let you sift through them yourselves. Four analog sticks and a 6-inch touch screen? Sounds like Nintendo re-hired whoever designed the N64 controller. And then fed him nothing but booze and cocaine for a fortnight.

Four joysticks is more akin to concrete matter when compared to flailing about with shitty motion control, but by that point you tread Liefeldian/Grievous territory. Just replace "thumb sticks" with "pouches" or "lightsaber envy" and you're on the right track.
I tend not to trust IGN, but a new Nintendo system is an eventuality, regardless of news source. It's just a matter of when we see it.

****ing hell, these rumors are gettimg insane . . . it sounds like there trying to blur the line between console and handheld. Project Cafe (include accent on e)? This picture sums up what I think of all this . . . Now time for a bit of nostagia, remember these prototype Wii controllers? (STARMAN CHEESE WHEEL FRISSBIE!) I keep thinking that white "plus" shape controller could possible work with a touch screen in the middle of it.

I maintain that the GCN controller was the absolute most user-friendly controller to exist ever, so if Nintendo were to design a standard, two-hand controller, that should be the logical base.
Wii back-com, of course, would flat-out freaking DEMAND motion sensors, meaning we could hypothetically end up with a controller not unlike a Nunchuck Remote. But God I hope Nintendo realizes how annoyingly small or poorly placed some of the Wii Remote's buttons are. Sticking an absolutely tiny button in a socket where it's perfectly level with the socket is MASSIVELY irritating. I mean, sure, my hands being rather large, I'm a little bit skewed towards bigger buttons anyway, but still, hitting the + button should not be a question of nail-digging, and the 1 and 2 buttons? Jeez, if you hold it like it's meant to be held, you're pretty much putting your hand in a position only the N64 could previously accomplish.

Well, I'm not going to trust game media on this. Way back to the early 2000s when I first joined the internets - even back then IGN was not specially credible. If anything, I'd say they are moving on so soon if this is going to happen. I still have more GC games than Wii games. Project Cafe (include accent on e)? Windows, US keyboard layout, Alt + Numpad 0233? I maintain that the GCN controller was the absolute most user-friendly controller to exist ever, so if Nintendo were to design a standard, two-hand controller, that should be the logical base. Seconded. i'm glad to use it across two console generations without complaint.

The Dreamcast controller was close to perfection, in my opinion - but it fell juuuust short. The only real flaws were the fact that the wire came out from the bottom rather than the top, and it had no right thumbstick. And I'm not sure if I'm part of a minority here, but I also liked having the memory ports built into the controller themselves. No real reason why, but...yeah.
