He doesn't own Meteos, or something like that. It's not a Nintendo franchise at any rate.

I think this console looks awesome, for the most part. The GameCube backward-compatibility probably would've taken extra programming/hardware space that could be used for something more... profitable. It will probably end up being Nintendo's excuse for shipping GCN games to the Virtual Console, store, or whatever they plan on calling it now. I have my doubts about the new controller. Even so, I have a feeling it probably isn't necessary for most games, knowing Nintendo already threw in support for standard Wii remotes anyways. Since this is a primary complaint, expect Nintendo to develop some sort of standard-layout controller to make people happier. I read halfway through this thread, so if I unintentionally repeated somebody or missed some bit of news, then that's why.

inb4 'Wii U DS Player'! *dreams on*
Perhaps... That would be good for recording DS footage, though assuming that this peripheral can act as the bottom screen. Then if you were really extravagant, you could play 3DS games on a 3D television XD. That would also be quite the title, 'we', 'you' the 'ds', and the player'.

Kinda awesome. I hope this is not what Nintendo has in-house right now though (i.e. they should be working on future iterations that look different).
The HD thing still got me amused on how did Nintendo manage to limit the resolution of Wii at 640*480 in as late as 2006.

Bump! You have probably heard the news that a redesigned Wii U tablet was shown off by a QA guy from TT Games. www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/redesigned-wii-u-tablet-shown-off-by-tt-games-qa-guy/Most importantly, the concave 3DS-esque circle pads have been replaced with Wii-style analog sticks. The Wii U logo has been moved to the bottom left-hand side of the unit, while the plus and minus buttons have been moved to the right. Two mysterious button-ish indentations exist below the d-pad and between the power button and battery life indicator; their function, if any, remains unclear. Click here for an omega hyper resolution version.www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/wiiutabletredesign.jpegUpdate: Well that didn't take long! The tweet in question has been removed, but a screenshot of said tweet has been safely ensconced after the break.
Additionally, eagle-eyed commenter Anthony noticed a couple more disparities between this unit and those seen at E3, namely that the Home button appears to be surrounded by an Xbox 360-style ring light, and that the tablet's edges look more dramatically beveled than previously seen. We've also noticed that the gates surrounding the analog sticks are circular, rather than octagonal, as seen on the Wii Nunchuk and Classic Controller. Gonintendo made a comparison of the two Wii U controller versions. gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=177550Thoughts?

Sorry to bump this thread but I was wondering which Nintendo franchises could benefit from Wii U's Game Pad. Other than New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, and Super Smash Bros. 4, these are the Nintendo games I think could be good on Wii U:
Advance Wars - how about giving Fire Emblem a break, Intelligent Systems? Use the Game Pad to look at the grid maps and plan out your offense/defense and keep track of your soldiers and then watch the war unfold on the TV.
Duck Hunt - revive Duck Hunt as a first-person shooter! Use the Game Pad to explore your surroundings till you find a duck or a moving target and tap the touch screen to watch your Mii shoot them with a NES Zapper-like rifle on the TV. Be careful not to "accidentally" shoot your trolling dog.
Kid Icarus - come on, substitute the 3DS bottom screen with the Game Pad and it would still work! It would have been so sweet to watch Uprising in HD. And at least Wii U Game Pad has that second circle pad for left-handed players.
Luigi's Mansion - I think it would be interesting to use Game Pad like the Game Boy Horror to search around. The two circle pads could substitute for the Gamecube's analog sticks, I suppose.
Mario Paint / Flipnote Studio - hmmm... the Game Pad seems like an ideal substitute for the mouse and pad. It would be cool to share art/animation/music through Miiverse!

Xenoblade would be even better with touch screen support to manage your Arts and other things.

I can't really think of anything that can really benefit from the Game Pad that can't be done on the DS touch screen.
With the 3DS now having motion-sensing features, Wii U looks like a powered-up, 2Dversion of 3DS to me.

It's essentially all of Nintendo's past ideas bottled into one. That's pretty cool and I'm looking forward to it... but it's no innovation.
