I think Teev means that the RPGs don't usually add anything that would easily lend itself to other games in the series. And if you think about it, he's right... Most of the new things the RPGs come up with are very specific to the Beanbean Kingdom, Rogueport, whatever the SPM world was called, etc. They couldn't very well fit into other games without feeling like they were there just to be references, and when you're making a platformer that's just unnecessary clutter. Most of the stuff in the RPGs that would slot naturally into the platformers came from the platformers in the first place.

Exactly. I just assumed that the examples I posted would be proof enough at what I meant... >_>

Well, it is certainly nice to see Tanoombas back in Super Mario 3D Land, even though they lack the raccoon ears they had in Mario & Luigi games.
I am pretty excited about Tanooki Mario and Boomerang Mario. I hope we get some more power-ups like Frog Mario, Hammer Mario, and Ice Mario. Having extra playable characters like Luigi and Toad would be nice, too... especially if they came with their unique abilities like higher jumping (Luigi) and running around on walls (Toad).

One thing I think shwos that they were thinking of the e-Reader powerup with the Boomerang suit is the color of the boomerang itself. No Boomerang Brother has ever been shown as having a blue boomerang, yet the boomerang in the e-Reader cards was blue. It's small, yes, but it's there.
Also, the Frog Suit better be in...

Let's take a look at some more artwork too: That's no Solid Snake! Sister? Girlfriend? We'll see. That tail continues to spread like a contagion. These guys would whip Mario from behind with it. Finally, a nice clean artwork of these guys. Is that a new breed of Thwomp/Whomp? I hope they don't kill the chances of Paratroopas appearing. They have yet to show up in a 3D Mario title. According to Nintendo Power*, these are fake Bowsers that were enemies like Goombas using leaf's power to transform into him. * i42.photobucket.com/albums/e305/CamronGod/Nintendo%20Power%20SM3DL%20Scans/SuperMario3DLandNPScans0007.jpg

Exactly. I just assumed that the examples I posted would be proof enough at what I meant... >_> Well most of those examples are RPG references popping up in other RPGs. But you're right. However sometimes I feel "oh that was a perfect opportunity to put in such-and-such but they made an original character instead!" Know what I mean? Anyway, I'm dying to know what that female Boom Boom's name is. How's Boombina, Boomerella, or Boombella? I kinda want her to be the new Petey if you know what I mean. Showing up as a playable character in Mario spin-offs. We need more female characters in the playable roster of games. I can imagine her as a Power type in Mario Tennis 3DS.

Oh man, Boomerang Suit? How do Mario games keep having such awesome powerups? Moreover, how come some of them are only in one or two games? SML2's Carrot, NSMBW's Propeller Mushroom and Penguin Suit, NSMB's Blue Shell, SMB3's Kuribo's Shoe...so much awesome.
I dream of a Mario game where all of these powerups return. <3
ANYWAY this game is looking great so far. I see a lot of Mario Galaxy elements in the areas in that they're a little off-the-wall (made of building blocks and such) and seem to be comprised of many smaller bits linked together.

Well I think the guys behind Mushroom Kingdom Fusion are making another fan game that involves all sorts of old Mario elements. Perhaps they will include all the past powerups?

I can go ahead and tell you we're not including all of the power ups. The sister project, Super Mario fusion Revival, does a better job, but is still far away from all. There is just a huge amount of them. We DID beat them to the Boomerang Suit though! brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2011/10/03/367-tanooki-madness/]Enjoy a Brawl in the Family from a week or so ago- before the Boonooki, the power up in MK7 that gives your kart a tail, the Tail Tree... A truer comic than Matt imagined.

There are definitely a lot of missed opportunities when it comes to 3D Mario games. Super Mario 64 DS was a Mario fans wet dream. Super Mario 64 with not only Luigi, but Yoshi and Wario playable as well? It's a shame people knocked it because of the controls (which I didn't mind in the least).
I'm still waiting on Waluigi to appear in a main title though...

Super Mario 64 DS certainly was a surprise (I didn't mind the controls either). It's the closest thing we'll ever get to playing as more characters outside of the spin-offs. Maybe another time, another Mario platformer will be remade with more extras like that. Aren't we all? Oh wait...

Pics of the Tanooki tail in MK7."Not only can you whip other drivers off the track with it, you can also deflect incoming shells." The tail infection is spreading . . .EDIT: Oh wait, Boo Destroyer already used that. Fixed BitF link. brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2011/10/03/367-tanooki-madness/The most annoying part about SM64 DS was the character change room and how there was a door next to Wario's that seemed like would be perfect for Waluigi to be in. But of course no he wasn't in it.

You see what's happening here? When New Super Mario Bros. DS was coming out, all the reporters kept asking Nintendo if the Koopalings were in it, but they weren't. So when New Super Mario Bros. Wii, came out, it had the Koopalings. So then reporters kept asking if NSMBW had the Tanooki suit in it, but it didn't. So now, Super Mario 3D Land has Tanookis and Raccoon Tails coming out the wazoo (er, so to speak). That means that whatever we want to see in the next Mario game that isn't in this one, reporters just need to keep asking Nintendo if it's in this one. Surely it will pop up in the next one! Don't question my logic!

The way this is now, it seems with everyone having clamored like hell for the raccoon thing to come back, Nintendo then just saw to it like, "Okay here, EVERYTHING has the tail now! You happy?!" ;D
Also, if there's a 3D Land 2, the Yoshi pattern so far might carry over. Yoshi wasn't ride-able in NSMB DS, but then appeared in NSMB Wii. Wasn't there in SMG1, but then came in SMG2.
