When I first played Smash Bros, the only characters I really knew of were Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, DK, Pikachu and Jigglypuff. That didn't change my enjoyment of the game at all.
The only thing stopping me from playing the shit out of this game is the fact I don't own a PS3. Hopefully one of my friends that do buys it.

Meh, can't say that I'm interested since I never was a SSB fan to begin with, and other then Parappa I have no interest in any of the confirmed characters so far.
Sadly, as far as I can remember, none of Sony's first-party games have ever appealed to me (save for the Parappa series, the Wild Arms series, if they both count, and Gravity Rush) and the Sony games that have are all third-party. I pass on this but I do hope at least the gameplay will be good enough so Sony fans can have a blast with it.

Out of the characters they've confirmed, the only ones I've heard of are Kratos, Sly and Parappa, and the only one I care about is Parappa... and he looks bizarre, because they apparently couldn't decide whether to make him 2D or 3D. I'm guessing Ratchet or Clank or both will be in it, since I spotted Captain Qwark in the video. That'd give me somebody else I'm already into. But I honestly can't think of any other Sony characters I'd want in there. Most of the ones I think of as Sony characters (like Crash and Spyro) are actually not Sony characters at all. XD I'm not totally turned off it, though. This game would probably be a fun way to find out who Sony's characters are. And give me an excuse to dust off the PS3. Might even get me into some series I didn't know about, like Smash Bros did.

This is pretty orgasmic for me. Between this and Cabin in the Woods, my shitty week ended at a pot of gold.
Here are the characters I saw...
Sweet Tooth - Twisted Metal Ratchet - Ratchet and Clank Helgast - Killzone Kratos - God of War Fat Princess - Fat Princess Sly - Sly Cooper Parappa - Parappa the Rapper Cole McGrath - Infamous

Oh, Ratchet was in there? I didn't see him. Cool. Could you see if Clank was on his back? I'd rather play as Clank.

I didn't see Clank, but I wouldn't doubt he's attached to Ratchet. Most of Ratchet's advanced moves are contributed by Clank, such as the jet pack and helicopter...thing.

Pardon my ignorance but I was just wondering... who are Sony's first-party characters?

Two words that better be in this game.
Sir Dan.

To be fair, it isn't always necessary to develop games with high innovation, it mostly needs to be good. Data East and Namco for example created games that were compared by several gamers to other games, but several of Data East and Namco's works turned out to be damn good. Anyway, one obscure Sony character I can think of is this.

Sir Dan? Are you by chance referring to the skeleton knight from MediEvil? Who is Jerry Boy? Does Sony even know it exists?

Jerry Boy is the original Japanese version of this. And here is his interview that discusses its development after reviewing two Neo-Geo titles.

Aye, Sir Daniel Fortesque from the MediEvil games. Man, they were great.

I'm not sure exactly how accurate that list is... I find it incredibly unlikely that Sony owns the Discworld franchise just because they now own the studio that published the first game based on it. XD
