Yeah, the artist is Yusuke Kozaki of No More Heroes. Heh, no wonder I first thought of the NMH series when I saw this game's artstyle. I'm not a FE fan but I do like some of the art and character designs in a few games, now including this one since Kozaki is one of my favorite artists. I stumbled across the latest trailer in Siliconera, I first thought it was gonna be 2D animation, and then I clicked the Youtube video and its actually very good looking CG animation. I also stumbled across some dev details on GoNintendo, they considered a modern setting and a Mars setting. gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=174058- ideas that weren't used were a modern setting and a Mars setting. - ideas for Awakening were considered during development of the DS remake Fire Emblem: Shin Monsho no Nazo. - the team considered using world as well. - the final idea was to make a Fire Emblem game that was a compilation of all the great series ideas thus far. - character designer and illustrator Yusuke Kozaki remarked that this is the first time he's had to design so many characters for a game. - he was told that Nintendo would need 60 characters, but the devs wouldn't tell him it was a Fire Emblem game.

Mars setting? That could be a mistranslation. Marth's name is "Marusu", and it could have been referring to setting it in his homeland rather than... on Mars... which is mental... Especially as I'm pretty sure FE isn't supposed to be set on Earth

But, the "Mars" setting was NOT used? I doubt it was really referring to the Altean prince. The original source actually asks for the display of the original URL and encourages* linking to that page when quoting these Iwata Asks text. This is somehting GoNintendo didn't do but their intermediate source did. But let's say what the original source said, alright? - Kozaki Yusuke was asked "Would you help us to design about 60 characters" via his homepage. And he did ask if it was a Fire Emblem project, although, but was told it's a secret. (Naturally, if INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS sends you a message and asks you to draft 60 chararcters, it's very obvious what's going on anyway...) - Yes, Mars. The planet Mars. Futuristic or extraterristerial settings isn't exactly uncommon among fantasy games, and things look like they're not going to make this game serious-toned anyway. (I'd agree. Let's not go back to child hunting, mass brainwash and human inbreeding if you ever hope the game could leave Japan.) So there you get it. I don't think this particular Iwata Asks will get faithfully translated in any official way, since they mentioned quite a few things unique to the Japanese versions (like the naming styles and references to FE4, FE TCG and FE12). * Printed materials don't have hyperlinks, you know.

As long as they don't change the setting to futuristic permanently, I would be fine with having a few games in more abstract locations.

Personally, I think if they wanted a Fire Emblem game with a modern/futuristic setting, they should just make it a completely new game or a spin off with similar gameplay.

Fire Emblem in a modern/futuristic setting?
Sounds like someone at IS finally played Valkyria Chronicles*, which is pretty much Advance Wars warfare crossed with Fire Emblem characters/permadeath and 3rd person shooter.
* Now that I think about it, VC is set in a steampunkish WWII enivironment, so it's not really modern day.

More new details. - It's been revealed that you can have units can get married (hetrosexual) and have children. My Unit can also get in on the action. (A marraige system first appeared in Super Famicom's Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu) andriasang.com/con0hp/fire_emblem_love/- DLC was made after the game was completed and there is also a first person view mode. andriasang.com/con0hv/fire_emblem_dlc/And the first FE:A DLC has been detailed. Marth will be the first hero avalible for purchase. Nintendo has shared details on Fire Emblem Awakening's first round of download content. Classic Fire Emblem character Marth will appear in the game as a ¥300 download. Clear a map, and you'll get to make Marth into a party member.
Marth will be available for download on April 19, opposite Awakening's release. The DLC will be free through May 31.andriasang.com/con0ks/fire_emblem_marth/I'm still liking the DLC price plan with this, rewarding early (full price retail) game purchases with "free" DLC. It seems like a fair way to price DLC.

On the other hand if I don't want to shell out big bucks for a new game immediately I'm gonna have to cough up extra money later on to get al the extra jingles. Ohwell, can't win 'em all.
Also I thought after Fire Emblem for DS they reimagined Marth to be more of a badass, but nope it's right back to girly Marth

Every time I see a new Marth art, I laugh at his feminine appearance. And frankly, I like this cute look on him more than his FE11 manly look. I wonder what's his height relative to masked Marth and the prince. And a multiplayer match between otherworldly Marth and masked Marth would be interesting. Also I thought after Fire Emblem for DS they reimagined Marth to be more of a badass, but nope it's right back to girly Marth Well, Fire Emblem 11 is the only game with a masculine Marth. Girly Marth went back to action since Fire Emblem 12.

I agree, his FE13 appearance is more feminine. With FE12, his official art looks average; but his in-game art and mug sprites are still somewhat feminine.
I'd say the masked Marth is even more feminine, and this is somewhat explanable with a spoiler reason (it's an unconfirmed fan explanation, but it still sounds like spoiler) that I'm not going to discuss right now.

Just to be clear, Marth comes with a unique map. Famitsu has revealed that Marth's map is a remake of the first map from the original game.

So, the game is now officially out, and I've been hearing lots of positive impressions from China and Japan. The DLC is also available now, and I'll go into it a little bit. There will be spoilers for the DLC, but they do not have effect on the story what so ever. As I mentioned previously, the Marth DLC chapter is a remake of the first map from the first game. However, they did indeed switch somethings up! First off, your party consists of Krom, plus six other units of your choosing. You are also accompanied by three NPC characters, who are Marth, Alm, and Ike. You can interact with Alm and Ike, but only Marth can be recruited for the main game after completing the map. Even more interesting, the enemies you fight are all playable characters from previous games. They are: Celica from FE2, Caeda from FE3, Deirdre and Julia from FE4, Nanna from FE5, Lilina from FE6, Lyn from FE7, Eirika from FE8, Elincia from FE9, and Micaiah from FE10. After beating the map, Marth joins the players party. Marth also has a unique class, Star Lord, which is modified Lord class. Also with regards to Spotpass, it seems like a bunch of characters are now available. Sigurd, Levin, Lachesis, Alvis, Cuan, and Arden from FE4 have been appearing. I don't know if they are all available at the same time, or if people are getting the characters randomly.
