Treasure chests? We got those pokeballs containing items since day one. That is exactly my point. We already have bosses, but you guys want some more generic JRPG ones. I just don't get it.

Yeah, I caught it on Serebii the other day. Looks pretty awesome, but minus points for pretending the female trainer doesn't exist. XD Why? The female characters have taken center stage in pretty much every other game since the option has been available. May, Dawn, Lyra...and what are the guys names again? Brenden? Lucas? ...Daryll? Treasure chests? We got those pokeballs containing items since day one. That is exactly my point. We already have bosses, but you guys want some more generic JRPG ones. I just don't get it. I agree that we don't need "special battles", but minigames disguised as boss fights could potentially be creative AND fun. Sort of like how contests and casino games are implemented.

I didn't know the Easter Bunny's cousin was in Pokemon. Cool.

Every other game? More like every game! This is the first time they've used a male trainer to advertise a game since Gold & Silver! I agree that we don't need "special battles", but minigames disguised as boss fights could potentially be creative AND fun. Sort of like how contests and casino games are implemented. That I agree with! Maybe they could have one Gym Leader you have to defeat in the form of a contest or something (That would make a TON of sense for Elesa, particularly). Taking part in the minigames as part of the story would make them feel more integrated with the main game.

The primary reason I'm not behind contests/musicals/jizz-gargling competitions is because every. Single. One. Feels like a time-squandering minigamefest. Doing Something Different only really works if it's worth anyone's time. The best diversionary quest the Pokemon games ever had was the Bug Catching Competition in GSC because you got a worthwhile reward instead of a pat on the head.
I'm being an asshole today. Sorry.
My point is that the Pokemon games haven't had a successful mixed formula. Ever. For all time. GameFreak squandered a potentially awesome opportunity. Maybe deferring to JRPG standards - despite its trappings - would at least make the game feel newer without making it feel like it's abandoned its roots. This can happen, guys. Metroid Prime was a complete diversion from those to come before it, but it still felt like a Metroid game. It can be done. We have the technology. We can make it faster, stronger, etc. etc. etc.

I'm all for doing something different. My point is that throwing in a started JRPG boss isn't doing something different. It's doing something the same, only instead of the same as Pokémon it's the same as Final Fantasy, which is not an improvement.
I want them to do something different. They talked before about trying to make battles more action-based than menu-based, that'd be a fun change.
I actually really enjoyed most of the minigames. The musicals were a bit disappointing because there wasn't much to them, but I loved contests and the Pokéathlon. The Bug Catching contest... I never actually thought of it as a minigame before, since it just has you doing exactly what you would in the rest of the game. I guess I used to enjoy it, until I discovered you could just paralyze and catch a Kakuna for a guaranteed win. Then it just became a chore.

The closest thing Game Freak Genius Whatever did to changing the formula (outside the battle mechanics, which still satisfy me) was Shadow Pokemon. It was basically turning pokemon into weapons, giving them personal Shadow attacks that were super effective against normal pokemon. It was a great idea, but I always thought they never fleshed it out enough. If anything, I think they should revive that idea, add better story, presentation, more complex mechanics (maybe some Shadow abilities), actually show the difference between a weaponized Shadow pokemon and a free one, etc. Maybe do something along the lines of Shadow pokemon that can infect or even rebel against their "creators". And of course, Shadow Lugia would definitely go along the lines of being a "JRPG Boss" in the pokemon world. It was super powerful, hyped up as the awesomest dude in shadowtown and had an evil vibe to it. But again, presentation issues, it comes out before the final battle. IMO, Greevil should have used it as a last resource or at least made it immune to Master Balls. Of course, I don't expect any of this to happen in the main games. As for the main games, my opinion may be unpopular, but as long as the main games have a new set pokemon and battle mechanics that stir up the metagame, I'm game. And don't think I an elitist, tourneyfag who only uses the most "l33t" pokemanz, you can't beat my Aggron.

Oh, yes, yes, I'll have the chance to nitpick this first The closest thing Game Freak did to changing the formula (outside the battle mechanics, which still satisfy me) was Shadow Pokemon. It was Genius Sonority, not Game Freak ;D

think the big thing that everyone wanted that we could never do in Pokemon was the option to be evil. Since that day we crossed Nugget Bridge and was offered a job at Team Rocket... how many of you thought... "man that sounds cool!"

Not many, not anybody I know...
Are you sure "everybody" wanted that option? Especailly when all the evil teams are retarded with the exception of Rocket in the Johto games.

The question is if you did have the chance to be evil (in the Standard Pokemon RPG Game Universe, using the standard game mechanics) what could you really do "evily?" And would there be enough of it? And would it be fun?
- Fight "good" trainers and steal their items/money/Pokemon? - Deal illiegal Pokemon items? (Slowpoke tails . . . and er . . . other stuff) - Stealth segement to steal some sort of Macguffin? (like the Master ball) (Or is this idea not Pokemon-y enough?) - Catching hundreds and hundreds of Zubats/annoying Pokemon to trade to other "evil team members"

Shoko Nakagawa, the voice actress that spilled that Zekrom would be an Electric-type Pokémon, has did it again. There has been written evidence for a few days that Keldeo is going to receive an alternate form, but she just confirmed it in her blog and immediately removed it. She called it the "Resolution Forme". Keldeo's regular pony form is called "Usual Forme".
