Well, Microsoft's presser is over. I love how gamers are like, "Xbox One sucks! I have no control over my games! I don't want to have to be connected to the internet all the time! $499 is too much! I'm done with Microshaft! I-- Ooh! Pretty graphics! Maybe I'll get one, lolz!"

So the new Rare game was Killer Instinct after all. I was really hoping for Banjo-Kazooie, Conker or even Viva Pinata over that. Oh well. Project Spark looks interesting, but that was the only Xbox One exclusive that caught my attention.

Except that Rare is not developing the new Killer Instinct. It's being made by Double Helix Games.

Couple of stray thoughts on E3 so far....
I love the Dead Rising games, they're great, mindless fun, so it annoys me that of all the third party titles, that one has to be an Xbone exclusive, because nothing else has really jumped out at me as wanting to pick up that console. There's a couple of neat looking concepts - Sunset Overdrive, for example, but they aren't selling me on the thing, what with all the other negatives around the console.
...A Banjo revival would've worked to get my hyped, though.
...That being said, an Australian pricepoint of $599 is better than anticipated. The 360 was $799 here when it launched, the PS3 was rather famously $1000, this is an almost 1:1 conversion of the US price, so well done on that one at least, Microsoft. The WiiU I think retails for $400 here, so they'd be wanting a price drop, because its making the console seem very overpriced in comparison.
Also, as another note, I hate that the South Park game is now a holiday title. As far as I can understand, before the whole bankrupcy / buyout whatever, it was basically done and ready for March. I would've loved to have been playing it right now.

Sony's conference was still bloated and over-long, but their blatant trolling of Microsoft was priceless! Jack Trenton said straight out that PS4 will play used games, and that disc-based games can be re-sold or given to friends without restrictions. No online authentication or 24-hour check-in are required. This was met with long, loud applause from the audience, who was so happy that they didn't even notice when Trenton said they were going to require a Playstation Plus membership for online multiplayer, which costs about $5 per month. At the end, the rubbed it in Microsoft's face again, saying that consumer ownership and trust was extremely important. I couldn't help but laugh. Definitely one of the best E3 highlights I've seen in a long time. I can't believe it was at a Sony conference. Combined with the $399 price tag, I think Microsoft just lost E3 big time. EDIT: The trolling continues... I love this!

That is actually brilliant.
I know its just one day of conferences, not a single day of sales or anything else, but at this point, unless something big happens between now and launch, how ahead of the game Sony is at the moment, and, more notably, how behind Microsoft are. It amazes me how, once again, a company has been hit by the 'third console curse'. The transition from the 360 to the One feels like the transition from the PS2 to the PS3 all over again, and I would've thought Microsoft would have to have learned from watching the Playstation empire come close to collapsing early this gen. And yet they haven't. Every step they seem to take seems to be a misstep, and the PS4 is just using every one to its own benefit.
From my own personal perspective, however, nothing has really jumped out at me as 'must have' for the PS4, though I see quite a few titles that, if I already had the console, I suspect I would buy and enjoy. Still, not system sellers.
I hope Nintendo can bring some for me. I know I'm a sucker for Mario, Mario Kart, and Smash, so they're givens, so I hope they pull out something else that screams 'BUY ME! BUY ME NOW!'.

Here's the actual clip from the conference. (I've been misspelling Jack Tretton's name.)
Yeah, I don't know if I, personally, will ever get a PS4, but I just loved that Sony saw the opening and went for the throat. It kinda reminds me of the old Sega vs Nintendo wars in the early '90s, with the aggressive "Genesis does what Nintendon't" attack ads.

I can't help but laugh at those edits. Sony one-upping Microsoft is brilliant, even though I like neither for many reasons (both gaming and non-gaming related).
I hardly slept last night. Come on, only 4.5 hours to go...

The Nintendo conference this year is actually at the super reasonable time of 11.30pm, rather than the usual (and Microsoft's time period this year) of about 2-3am. So I'm pumped to watch it live.

What is 'Wii U software'? And the Pokemon thing isn't being streamed, right?

If it's called "Direct", then it's streamed (but pre-recorded) video.
I'm prepared to not sleep tonight.

Yeah, error on the chart maker's part. The Pokemon thing isn't actually a Direct but a 90 minute QA thing without a feed sadly. Any new Pokemon info will no doubt be (officially) revealed shortly after though.
No clue what the WiiU showcase is supposed to be (watch them push the trailers of the 'big three' to that timeslot...)
