To be fair, Koei DOES seem dead set on making a Mario Warriors game happen. I think they actually did pitch the idea to Nintendo, but Nintendo told them to use Zelda instead.

Also consider for a moment that currently the most spin-offs we get are New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart, with the occasional Mario Party. Do you really want to return to 2005 and wind up with four Mario Parties per system and a Mario Tennis and a Mario Pinball and a Mario Baseball and a Mario Strikers and a Mario-themed Dance Dance Revolution?
There's a reason people used to make relentless jokes about this.

I'm not sure New SMB is a spin-off series. It certainly is a divergence from the format Nintendo's taken with Mario since the N64, but by that logic Mario 64, Sunshine, and the Galaxies are spin-offs and the New SMB games are just the next step from Mario World. But that's another subject entirely. On point, if we're going to see another new spin-off Mario franchise, I'd say a hack-and-slash would not be the direction I'd want to see it go towards. This needs to be saved forever. Yes it does. In the religious sense. The power of Arceus compels you! *Splashes holy water at picture.*

Kinda hard to make a hack-n-slash out of a game where nobody uses a sword. Unless everybody uses a bludgeoning weapon, which renders the term "hack-n-slash" inaccurate.

So I trust everyone has gotten their Tingle on?

I'd love to play as the extended Mario cast in something that isn't Kart, Sports, or Party.
Imagine: my friend playing as Luigi, I'm Donkey Kong, fighting off hoards of Goombas together.

If they did make a Mario Warriors, one of its armies should definitely be the Minis from MvDK

But aren't the Mini-Whatever toys the good guys?

Right... like the Hyrulean Soldiers and Skyloftian Knights (and the Gorons in most chapters). Both teams have an army to work with. If there were to be a Mario iteration, it would be nice to have a handful of different armies to experience as well. Minis, Toads, Koopas, etc.

It's official, Hyrule Warriors has sold over one million units worldwide, meeting Koei Tecmo's original projection. ( Source)

I do believe that Koei Tecmo now owes me a HW2.

I think a hyrule warriors 2 is a given at this point. Question is whether we expect it next year for the 30th anniversary or in 2017. Depends when Zelda Wii U is gonna launch i guess.
I am gonna predict here that a second hyrule warriors will have a focus on A link to the past, A link Between Worlds, wind waker and if Zelda Wii U is out then that otherwise it will just use new stuff from Ocarina/Majora/Twilight/Skyward.

I think what could happen is that HW2 will be developed to be a launch title for the NX. Assuming of course that Zelda U isn't moved to NX...

It is super unlikely that Nintendo will move Zelda U to the NX. The NX will not launch next year. Maybe we will hear something but remember that we heard about the Wii U in 2011 with the bird tech demo but it did not launch till 2012. Earliest we get NX is december 2017. Hyrule warriors 2 could be but i feel like it would be easier to just make it a wii u game.
