Shulk was more interesting than a third DK character would've been..
I'd take a character from a new game over a third character for a game that's already in there, personally.

A new game that isn't nearly or remotely as significant as Donkey Kong. A brand new franchise that looks the least like a Nintendo game and more like you're stereotypical JRPG you've seen 500 times before.
Also, Shulk is more interesting than Dark Pit... BUT WE STILL GOT HIM!

Uh oh, the DK fans are out in force I see. Sorry guys, I just really don't care about Dixie or K. Rool. To me, one's just female Diddy, the other's just secondary Bowser. Xenoblade was an awesome game, and I'm glad to see it showing up in Smash Bros. The game already has plenty of DK.
And I did say that I'd rather have seen characters from other new franchises instead of more Mario characters. Trying reading the parts of my posts that don't mention Donkey Kong.

King K. Rool hasn't been a significant character for over ten years. Outside of spinoff games (which he can't even get in anymore), he's been MIA since DK64. You can be disappointed that your favourite character did not get in, BUT, nobody on that roster forced him out.

That's a little exaggerated, don't you think? Here are my thoughts. Mega Man - Best third party rep ever. So glad he made it in. He's worth all the clone-y Fire Emblem characters in the world. Should've been in Brawl though. Wii Fit Trainer - Looks...interesting? I dunno. Probably won't play as her/him. Villager - Another character who should've been in Brawl. Glad he's finally in with a moveset I'm sure everyone predicted. Rosalina - I've never liked her very much. I also don't like how Nintendo keeps trying to force me to like her. Little Mac - Fan-fucking-tastic. Another character that should've been in Brawl (sure are a lot of them). Also digging his design. Giga Mac looks dumb though. Palutena - Don't really care about her. Robin - Oh boy. Another Fire Emblem character. At least it's one of those book users. Looks more interesting than Palutena at least. Lucina - Who? Is that Marth? He really let his hair grow out. Wonder why he's taking up two slots. Shulk - She Hulk is in Smash?! Oh. It's" literally-who". Pass. Pac Man - Oh, now we're talking! Pac that shit up, mutha fucker! Gimme all your Pac babies! I'll Pac things so tight! Okay, I'm done. Will main for sure. Mii Fighter - Looks fun. And they're the new polygon team too...which we all predicted they'd be in Brawl. Greninja - Niiiiice. Totally came out of nowhere. Love me some Pokemon. Especially blue water types. Bowser Jr - Was a little doubtful about the clown car, but the costumes and final smash more than make up for it. Also looks really fun. Duck Hunt - Woooooooow. He's the cutest fucking thing this side of Jigglypuff. I'm loving him. Wild Gunman is an awesome addition too! Though...it looks like you gotta use your hands. Like a baby game. Dark Pit - I...I just...I think I threw up in my mouth a little. All in all, not the best roster, though it could be worse. The good characters more than make up for all the Kid Icaruse and Fire Emblem. |

Yeah well, I could give two flying rat shits about Xenoblade and Donkey Kong just so happens to be my favorite series of all time. It isn't fair that Mario and Kid Icarus got two new characters each while DK couldn't even get one despite the fact that it's also in the middle of a brand revival and has been a consistently larger brand name than Kid Icarus ever has. Don't try to tell me otherwise just because you don't like it, and lose the fucking condescending attitude. And how the fuck is the same two characters from the last game, some enemy drones in Smash Run, and a handful of trophies "plenty of DK"? Mario, Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem each got two fucking characters! The fuck is your idea of "plenty"? Hell, I already mentioned that Star Fox and Earthbound each lost a character, Metroid is still stuck with two Samuses, and Ganondorf is still a fat version of Captain Falcon! This is the single least fair Smash roster to date in terms of representation, and your lack of perspective is absolutely sickening. I didn't even care that Shulk got in, just as long as I got one DK character. Just one! Is that really so much? Fuck, the Ridley teasing actually paying off would've been nice too! And seeing Mewtwo come back would've made a whole LOT of people happy! But no, Anime Swordsman No. 29477639656 got in and he's SOOOO INTERESTING and his game was SOOOOOO AWESOME, right? Don't tell me about "significance". Smash Bros. makes characters significant. Dude, you're whining. If you need to vent, at least type a bunch of shit up but don't submit it. It'll help you feel better. I do that on Facebook.
Also, you might learn to like the characters once you play as them. I don't care about Fire Emblem but I played the hell out of Ike.
Just give the game a chance.

Personally, I'm a little disappointed that Rhythm Heaven didn't make a big enough presence in there like it should have, but at the end of the day, that Duck Hunt dog and Bowser Jr. look like they'll be fun for me to play as.
