Duck Hunt Dog is a great character. Never knew how much I wanted him til he was put in.
Though I can officially say Sakurai's made me hate everything Kid Icarus.

Congratulations on the Duck Hunt character to both Arcadenik and everyone who believed it could happen! ^_^ This is actually the only thing I'm genuinely happy learning ahead of my region's release.

I am more than happy that Duck Hunt Dog is finally playable in Smash. I have been supporting the dog since 2002. My god... 12 long years... and I got the last laugh!

Hope that's not the case! lol
On the other hand, Murasame Castle needs some sort of revival...

Alright, so it turns out the ol' leaked roster screenshot contains every character within the 3DS (and presumely WiiU) version. Might aswell ask you guys in this leak thread:
Ignoring any unconfirmed potential future DLC, how do you feel about the roster? And which newcomer or revamped veteran are you looking forward to try out the most?
Right now I feel the same about this one as Brawl's back then: Friggen'great! ... but not perfect.
See Brawl added a lot of characters I wanted in Melee (Wario, Diddy, Dedede), actually added a Mother 3 character AND started adding well known 3rd party characters. And even though I can imagine dealing with 3rd party crossovers is a bitch, I felt they didn't utilize it enough. Okay, I really wanted Megaman, but asking the (closed) E3 audience who they wanted to see and only add one more 3rd party character felt lackluster. Also they cut Mewtwo so that kinda stung. Other than that, roster wise, Brawl's great.
Now SSB4's roster has been revealed and hooooly crap! Every (non-clone) newcomer seems really interesting one way or another and a lot of them I never thought possible or expected playable any time soon. And they added friggen' Megaman! This roster is great! ... But it would've been perfect if they didn't have to cut so many veterans. I mean sure, there's probably a reason for each of them (Snake's 3rd party shenanigans, PKMN being 'obsolete' with transformations gone, 30FPS Nana looks ass)... but Dark Pit and Doc? I'm probably not the only one who'd rather have Lucas/Wolf back. Also the IC were one of my favs, gameplay and childhood-wise, so them cut really does suck.
Still though, altogether I think the roster's the best of any Smash game yet. In fact, if IC's exclusion means DHD's inclusion then I'm all for it. It's not like Project M Brawl is going anywhere. In particular I can't wait to try out Villager, Megaman, Pacman and DHD. Goofball characters with goofball movesets are totally my thing. As for veterans, drop-kicking Bowser seems so out of character, but awesome and Mr.G&W's new animations make me love the little guy all over again.

- We lost Ice Climbers. - We lost Wolf and Lucas but gained Dark Pit, Dr. Mario and Lucina in their place even though nobody was asking for that. - I didn't get Dixie or King K. Rool. - Sakurai teased Ridley for basically nothing. - Mewtwo didn't make it back despite extraordinarily high fan demand. Much as I love Mega Man and Pac-Man, this roster sucks. It holds the distinction of being the only Smash roster I've been disappointed with so far. I didn't get the one thing I wanted! Just one! Was that really so much to ask for?

I hate to agree with Manspeed, but I really think Smash should be put in better hands. Sakurai said he didn't see why people would want Pac Man as a fighter because he thought Pac was just a circle with a mouth. Even if Pac didn't get an updated design over a decade ago, Sakurai couldn't imagine giving him the Pit treatment? Also, Ridley was THE most requested character in the West. Another character Sakurai mentioned not knowing why people would want him.
Most of the characters and features that I wished Brawl added did get put in. I remember back in the day making movesets for AC Villager. Little Mac and Mega Man got in which I also wanted. Aside from them...more clones. I honestly don't hate clones. Really. Wolf? Love him. Luigi? Fantastic. Dark Pit, Dr. Mario, and Lucina though? They're fucking costume material!!!
Speaking of costumes, there's another feature Brawl should've had. We finally get them but they're so limited! Why? What makes Robin get a male and female but Marth can't get Lucina and Roy? Why does Peach still have a Daisy palette? Why does Link get shitty paint on his eyes instead of actuall Fierce Deity?
Ugh. I'm sure I'll still have fun. Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina will all just be my punching bags.

I'd say this is the best roster we've had since the original. It's definitely the most varied. I don't care about certain already-represented series getting an nth character or not, and Dr. Mario and Dark Pit don't bother me since they're obviously only there because they were easy to do and not having them would just mean less characters. I don't understand why people are so upset about Wolf being gone now after how much everyone HATED him when Brawl came out.
Only thing I wish is that they'd added more playable characters from unrepresented series like Golden Sun and Dillon's Rolling Western over characters like Rosalina. But they still did that more than they did in Melee and Brawl, so I can't complain.

I wouldn't count some of those out. Obviously we have the distinct and quite probable possibility of DLC. But also we have the possibility of 5th player gamepad modes using the bosses. I still believe Ridley has a chance and not just because I have a bet riding on it.
Also, a friend brought up the Ice Climbers as DLC using the new 3DS, which is an idea I hadn't even thought of.

Unless they actually announce DLC, then we're not getting DLC.

They waited several months for Mario Kart 8. Don't discount it till months after the Wii U version.
Anywho, I have zero complaints. I like all the character that got in. I'd like to see some others- Ridley, K. Rool, Mewtwo, Dilon, Takamaru, Mach Rider all come to mind. But I'm not going to judge the game on what it doesn't have.

The lack of Ridley, Dixie, K. Rool or even Mewtwo is honestly making the whole thing feel worse to me. Nothing about this goddamn roster makes any sense. "Nintendo All-Stars"? Yeah right! "Ultimate character game?" As if!

I'm pretty happy with the roster in the end. I don't really have any opinions on Mega Man or Pac-Man, but I'll share my thoughts on the rest of the newcomers.
Villager - I figured he had no chance after Sakurai's Brawl comments, but I'm pleased to see them with a very creative moveset, and a diverse design selection. I only wish they had used the superior New Leaf design.
Wii Fit Trainer - Characters like her is why I love Smash Bros. I never considered her as a character, but I'm so glad she appeared in the game.
Rosalina & Luma - They seem to have a very good gimmick, and play quite nicely. Rosalina is also a great character in the Marioverse, and it's good to see EAD Tokyo get their own rep.
Little Mac - I felt he should have been in Brawl, so I'm very happy to see him now. I also love that they used NLG's superior design, rather than hang on to the NES one.
Greninja - A surprising unique addition considering how new X&Y are, but the dev team seem to have a very competent newcomer.
Mii Fighters - Like Mac, I felt Miis should have been playable in Brawl. I really like how he made three different fighting styles, rather than taking elements from the different Wii series games. I only wish he had also made a Mii Wizard.
Palutena - Sakurai really made the Kid Icarus characters worth caring about with Uprising, so Palutena was certainly a better choice than before Uprising was made. She also has a very interesting moveset, so I can't argue against her inclusion.
Lucina - I really only consider her .5 of a character, considering that she was at one point going to be an alt for Marth. Lucina is an extremely popular character, and a worthy addition.
Robin - Fire Emblem finally gets a fully unique newcomer, consider me pleased.
Shulk - Monolith Soft needed to have a character, and only Shulk or Riki could fill that role. I'm extremely happy that Monolith Soft got the recognition it deserves.
Duck Hunt - I was initially skeptical of this character, but the dev team made it work. Using the cowboys from Wild Gunman just takes them up another notch.
Bowser Jr. - An extremely well developed character, having all of the Koopalings as his alts makes him even better.
Dark Pit - Kind of unnecessary, but he seems to be a bit less of a clone than Lucina is.
BONUS: Alph - It's good that Pikmin 3 gets a character, even if he is only and alt of Olimar.
