First off, I want to say that Dixie Kong did end up getting robbed. She should have been a newcomer, and it is unfortunate that she did not make the cut.
With regards to Xenoblade being recent. The first game is over four years old. That's only one year younger than Earthbound was when Smash 64 released. Xenoblade is also a franchise that's on the upswing with a major sequel being released next year. Let's not forget either that Monolith Soft is actually owned by Nintendo, making Xenoblade more Nintendo than Fire Emblem, Earthbound, Kirby, and Pokemon.

Well, you're kinda answering your own question there. Dr. Mario, Dark Pit and Lucina are all only slightly different from their clones, which is likely the only reason they had time to actually put them in the game. Taking them away doesn't equal three new non-clones. It just equals three less characters.
You keep saying these other series have been shafted as though they've been removed entirely. You're not asking for the roster to be fairer, you're asking for it to be FURTHER imbalanced in favour of the series you happen to like.

No I'm not! When Mario has 10 fucking characters, having only 3 is hardly furthering the imbalance.

There's only 7 Mario characters.
Mario Luigi Peach Bowser Dr. Mario Rosalina Bowser Jr.

Throw Yoshi on there. Three games rampant with Mario characters isn't a "series". Egg symbol be damned.

Does anyone have all the costumes for the leaked characters? I've seen Ness' and Bowser Jr's and they look great.

Wario still counts as Mario character too.
Despite him having his own franchises and Smash icon, he never "stopped being a Mario character".

Er... Donkey and Diddy are both also Mario characters then.
Hell, until near the end of the Wii generation, Donkey Kong's biggest role was in "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" and Diddy's most frequent appearance was.... Mario spin-off titles.

And during that period, I was understandably on the edge since I thought DK and Diddy would be relegated to second-string Mario characters for the rest of their existence. Thankfully that didn't happen, but unfortunately I had to get told by a solid chunk of the Internet that Donkey Kong sucked for not being Metroid. -_-
But even before DK Returns, I got a big bone thrown my way in the form of Diddy in Brawl, and I was afraid that wouldn't happen either. And I still ran into people who insisted Diddy wasn't "important enough" to be in Smash Bros.!
Seeing how Mario has his sidekick, his girlfriend, and his archenemy in, Link has his girlfriend, his archenemy, and a..... different version of himself from another timeline, and Fox has his sidekick and his archenemy, I just thought it'd be reasonable to get just one of those for DK.

You could argue that Donkey Kong is the only Mario Subseries with two characters, and don't tell me Wario couldn't have a second one (even Yoshi, but I don't want to see baby Mario in here to). But moving away from that, I feel that the only classic Nintendo series still needing representation its Famicon Wars, while a character might be asking for much, I would be satisfied with a stage (even a Sub wars stage featuring advance wars music) Man, even a few trophies from Advance wars would make me happy!!
I also feel Dr. Mario needs its own icon and Wining music, he might be Mario but he is from a different series.

I don't consider Donkey Kong a "subseries". For a good chunk of its history it was its own thing!

God, I wish you people would've just made a new thread for all this petty arguing.
ON TOPIC
R.O.B. has a new final smash. He shoots a giant laser. Jigglypuff has the same poop-quality FS that has nothing to do with Pokemon. Dr. Mario's final smash is the same as Mario's but he shoots pills. Bowser Jr's FS has him turn into Shadow Mario and paint an X which hurts anyone in it. Duck Hunt Dog's FS is like Captain Falcon's but with Wild Gunman instead of Blue Falcon.
