Just wanted to archive this Twitter thread of Frank Cifaldi talking about the obscure games they selected for the Anniversary Collection.

Good question. Maybe it plays Guile's theme whenever he appears, and as we know, Guile's theme goes with everything.

I was thrilled to learn that Yuri Kozukata is an assist trophy. I've been re-playing Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water recently, and it's great to see Nintendo acknowledge it. (Switch port confirmed? )

It seems that Mario Segale, the man that Mario was named after, has passed away at the age of 85.

The final batch of games has been revealed for the Anniversary Collection, and they include not five, but SIX more games! They are: Beast Busters, Bermuda Triangle, Ozma Wars, Paddle Mania, SAR: Search and Rescue, and World Wars.
All 11 DLC games will be available on December 11!
The trailer for the first five games came out a couple of weeks ago, but I guess I never posted it. Here are both trailers:

Oh, and it's announced for PS4 and Switch. What's happened to Vita? Kind of surprised to see this, since Lydie & Suelle sold slightly better on PS Vita than on Switch. Sounds like Switch sales may have been better than you thought, at least in the West.

I've always had trouble wrapping my head around how a Mario Warriors (or Mushroom Kingdom Warriors?) would work. I'm sure it could be done, but my limited imagination just keeps thinking of Mario in a field full of goombas, and being expected to jump on each one.
I guess Mario does also punch and kick, though.

Finally finished Ys VIII! Now I can finally watch speedruns without spoiling anything. My thoughts are about the same as what I posted before. I still feel the game has major pacing issues, especially once I realized that it's required to do most of the side quests to get the best ending. I'm fine with side quests, but between them and the Dana sections, they really felt more like distractions rather than additions. Ys VIII could've been a really well-paced 40 or 50-hour game, but a lot of the extra stuff seemed like mandatory padding to make the game longer. As for the story (without getting into spoilers), I liked the whole "stranded on a prehistoric island" theme, and I thought that part was handled really well. The "lacrimosa" part added an extra twist to it, but I'm not sure it really "worked." As one review pointed out, maybe the narrative would've been a little stronger if there was an actual villain rather than just the island, itself. But still, the whole concept seems... contrived? Not well thought-out? And the ending? Yeah, I can see why people wouldn't like it. It does feel like a cheat. Plus, it comes dangerously close to making it seem like the whole journey was for nothing, and that's something that can really put me off of a story. I can understand why it was handled that way. Unlike the Trails/Kiseki series, the Ys games generally don't have overarching plots across multiple games, so each story needs to be self-contained. But I think other Ys games handled it better. Overall, I don't think I would rank Ys VIII among my favorites in the series. Although, my opinion seems to be in the minority about that, as a lot of Ys fans do consider it one of the best. (Similarly, fans also hold The Oath In Felghana in high regard, but it never quite clicked with me, either.) Still, I'm really glad I had the chance to play it.

This may be ground we've already covered on the forum, but if we did, it was probably a long time ago. I was just wondering about everyone's first experience playing a Nintendo game. - What was the first Nintendo game you played (if you remember)? - Were you familiar with Nintendo before that? - Did you become a fan from that first experience, or did that happen later? For me, we have to go back a long ways. I don't remember exactly what my first experience was, but it was likely the Atari 2600 version of Donkey Kong. (Although it also could've been an arcade game. Possibly either DK or Popeye.) Was I familiar with Nintendo before that? No, and I don't think I was even aware of Nintendo as a company until the NES was out. Did I become a fan from that first experience? Not of Nintendo, but I became familiar with Donkey Kong, as well as Mario. I recognized Mario when I saw him in other arcade games, such as Mario Bros (obviously) and Vs. Pinball. (This was probably also due to the Donkey Kong cartoon from the early '80s.) So, yeah, this is basically a "how you got to know Nintendo" kind of thread.

And it is, indeed, Miss X! And there are both male and female versions, plus a Kyo costume.
This is fantastic! It's really cool that SNK listened to the fan requests and actually put Miss X in the game, especially since he/she is such an obscure character!

Since its launch two years ago, Ys VIII has sold 500,000 units across all platforms and regions, which is quite impressive for a Falcom game. There's no breakdown of the platforms, but Falcom had previously reported that the Switch version was significantly behind the PS4/Vita versions in Japan, whereas other unofficial sources claim the Switch version was the best-selling version in the West. As for me, as of yesterday, I'm back on the Ys VIII grind. I hope to have it finished by the time the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection comes out in a few weeks. That should be easily doable, but then, whenever I think I'm getting near the end, it drags out a little bit longer.

This is really cool! Someone created a piece of music entirely with sound samples from Zelda: Breath of the Wild:

I just feel that the appeal of Warriors crossover games lies in its fan service. Most Falcom fans play the games on PlayStation platforms and PC. A single port of Ys VIII to the Switch doesn't really build up much of a presence on that platform. So while there's nothing preventing an Ys Warriors from being on Switch (other than possible technical issues), it would be like catering to a platform where the fan base doesn't really exist.
Of course, this is entirely a hypothetical situation.

Here's the tease for the next DLC character in SNK Heroines. (And a link since it seems that tweets don't always embed properly.) Speculation is that it's probably Miss X from the old SNK Gals Fighters, who was one of the most requested characters for SNK Heroines.
