Because of almost everyone who developed Superstar Saga previously developed SMRPG (except Chihiro Fujioka), Geno was added as a reference to the SNES title. They liked him. Same reason why Game Freak added some Pulseman references in the Pokemon series and Drill Dozer. Pulseman was developed by Game Freak for the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive. Geno is like Pulseman; they are nearly obsolete. Perhaps AlphaDream used some references from Geno and/or other things from SMRPG. One example I could think of is the victory theme song heard in Tomato Adventure, which sounds almost exactly like the victory theme song heard in SMRPG.

True, except there wasn't a Geno-esque character in Superstar Saga, OR it's sequel OR in the Paper Mario Games, and Fawful is the only one who comes close to Geno's popularity. Either way, I didn't see Game Freak ask Sega to use Pulseman in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl... Sure, there ARE references... and the later Mario RPGs reference Super with many items, action commands, and even the plot in Paper Mario was a spiritual continuation of the Super Mario RPG Plot.

Where was Pulseman referenced in Pokemon? I mean, all I can think of is Rotom...

For example, Pikachu's Volt Tackle is known as Volteccer in Japan and it works much like Pulseman's Volteccer, meaning that there is even a Pulseman reference in Super Smash Bros. =P

Where was Pulseman referenced in Pokemon? I mean, all I can think of is Rotom... Volt Tackle, Rotom, Team Galaxy = Galaxy Gang, all of the villains are designed after Pulseman villains, the Champion Battle music is a remix of Shut Down from Pulseman, the Rival Battle music is Neo Tokyo from Pulseman. That might be it...

There are even more of them, but since I've not played Pulseman, I'm nobody to mention them without linking to them instead.

Didn't Chocobo get the most votes in the third party category in the Melee poll? Maybe that bird would make a fine SquareEnix representative. And it would be a WTF character.
