Keep it on the roster? Okay, I really don't like how Sakurai kept the clones and made more clones. There are less clones than Melee. You are aware a character doesn't just create itself, right? Just because you can come up with a moveset for Krystal doesn't mean she could just slide straight in with no effort.

I think what's ironic is that all the people going "STOP WHINING!" are just prolonging it.

Keep it on the roster? Okay, I really don't like how Sakurai kept the clones and made more clones. Replace Ness with Lucas? Okay. Because at least Lucas plays similar yet different to Ness. But BOTH Ness and Lucas? Waste of space. Replace Young Link with Toon Link? Okay. Because that's how Young Link looks like in recent Zelda games. But keep the same old moveset instead of coming up with original moveset based off TWW and FSA? Waste of space. Keep Falco a clone of Fox? Waste of space. But add Wolf... and make him ANOTHER clone of Fox. A bigger waste of space. Krystal could have been an original fighter with her staff... but no, having three characters who use the same moves but they each look different is even better! Ganondorf is still a clone? Big mistake. And even his Final Smash works just like Captain Falcon... only it is with Ganon instead of a F-Zero car and without that extra cutscene. Only Fire Emblem is redeemed with the removal of Roy and Ike being Roy's decloned replacement. Even replace Mewtwo with Lucario? Okay because at least Lucario is basically an improved Mewtwo (even though I main Mewtwo in Melee). I am surprised Sakurai took the time to make a new moveset for Diddy Kong instead of making a clone for Donkey Kong with Donkey Kong Junior because that's the easy way to bump the roster numbers. Yeah, you see, this was not my original intent when making the topic. Not to have someone say "Every character is a waste of space". Seems a bit counter productive. But how about this. Make a roster that will please people from many different background and likes. You must remove 6 characters (selectable only) and add 6 new ones. I think what's ironic is that all the people going "STOP WHINING!" are just prolonging it. It's a two way street.

So one less clone than Melee, huh? Maybe SSB4 would have one less clone than Brawl.
So remove 6 and add 6? Okay.. I would do this. Remove Falco and replace with Krystal (new moveset). Remove Wolf and Ness with no replacements since we already have Fox and Lucas.
Remove Jigglypuff and replace with Team Rocket - kinda like Pokemon Trainer but with Meowth (solo), Meowth & Ekans (duo), and Meowth & Koffing (duo). May look like PT's clone but the difference is the different Pokemon with totally different movesets. The only thing they have in common is down B.
Remove Snake and replace with Commanding Officer (Andy from Advance Wars) and CO could still use the same moveset Snake does since he uses warfare weapons like the rocket launcher and grenades. Even the FS could be the same but with the CO shooting missiles from the fighter plane.
Oh, yes.. and remove the RANDOM button and replace with Duck Hunt Dog because he's a random choice. Oh, the "but he never fought before" argument is invalid thanks to R.O.B. Love you, you cute little robot!
And declone Ganondorf and Toon Link!
In conclusion... remove Falco, Wolf, Ness, Snake, and Jigglypuff plus the RANDOM button ... and add Commanding Officer, Team Rocket, Krystal, Duck Hunt Dog, Takamaru, and Animal Crossing Human. *gasp* I kept Sonic... what a shocker. That's what I would do.

I think what's ironic is that all the people going "STOP WHINING!" are just prolonging it. It's a two way street. Yeah. It goes like this: "I think this." "You're wrong." "Well it's just that I think this because x." "You're wrong." "I know, but I'm just saying that because y." "You're wrong." "You're just needlessly dragging this out." "You're wrong." It's a rather delightful two-way street, though the other direction is rather mundane.

No, it's the fact that both sides are unyeilding. The colpainers won't stop and those who complain about them, don't stop. It seems more of a ploy to look blameless. That's never true in any situation (or most for those anal retentive folks). But let's not make some kind of gang war out of this.

I'll run with Smash's idea. If I could replace six characters with six that I had, this would be what I would choose: For starters, I'd like Meowth in over Lucario. So out he goes. While the thought of Wolf being a heavier version of Fox intrigues me, I'd replace him with Samurai Goroh, who is also from a futuristic series. This evens out Star Fox and F-Zero. I'd kick out Young Link and replace him with Lyn from Fire Emblem. She could play a bit like him, using a bow and light mines, but fights very differently. For some Wars representation, I'd bring in Sami to replace Mr. Game & Watch. Yes, he's an icon, but I don't care for his play style all that much, and I do have to agree with Masa - Wars should have had more than what they got...despite not really liking the series. I think Mike Jones would have been a wonderful compliment to Marth. A hero from outside Japan with a diverse moveset could have been great. I'm not a big fan of the DKC series, so I'd probably cut Diddy free to let Mike have a spot. Lastly, I'd have loved for Mega Man to be rocking the roster. To let him in, I'd probably let Lucas go (as awesome as he appears to be, he is a Japan-only character I have little attachment to, and Mother's three games pale in comparison to the Blue Bomber's record). And people do have a right to complain if they wish. It is a message board, and people do have the freedom to speak about whatever it is strikes them, good or bad. I wasn't trying to criticize them earlier, but maybe I'm just too much of an optimist...and wanted to try to make a few of you share my personal joy about Brawl. I don't feel slighted, I don't feel bitter, I don't feel angry. I'm pretty content, actually. Maybe I should feel lucky that I am. I do hope that we all enjoy the game when it arrives on our respective shores, and if I do get the Wii online, I look forward to battling you guys and gals. Maybe things will shift about our opinions once that day arrives. We'll just have to see.

It's typical Nintendo, the standard of "throwing the rest of the world a bone" but keeping it Japan. It's a Japanese-based company. There's going to be some bias. I appreciate that they do put some things in with other nations in mind. If the game was designed entirely at Nintendo of America by an all-American design team, it would end up with an American bias.

"You're just needlessly dragging this out." "You're wrong." It's a rather delightful two-way street, though the other direction is rather mundane. I'm not saying anyone is wrong in having an opinion. Opinions are not right or wrong, they are opinions. It's when people say that it's unfair that I try to show why it's really not that unfair, or when someone makes a statement that doesn't make sense to me, such as "nothing is better than something" that I question it. And stating you opinion as Fact is kind of selfish. But saying simply "I wish there had been more of X." is perfectly valid. That's a far cry from saying "There should have been more of X." as though every person everywhere would agree. And people do have a right to complain if they wish. It is a message board, and people do have the freedom to speak about whatever it is strikes them, good or bad. Of course they have a right to complain. But repeating the same complaint over and over and getting emotional and blaming or insulting the game designers for not spending time on something you personally like isn't productive.

You mean like the situation with Mother and Fire Emblem's shifting heroes? You mean like how Marth's game got two remakes and how Ness' game got ported to the GBA with Mother 1? Or the fact that Ness's game is the most beloved of the series and Marth's game is the most beloved of the series? Marth and Ness are the icons of their series, but Lucas and Ike are pretty cool and popular guys also. Captain Falcon doesn't use weapons. He uses the FALCON PUNCH! As for Wars, name me a single Wars game that got ported or remade. Didn't Snake get a Futuristic mine and the loss of body armor because they were too realistic? Imagine what a uproar a Warzone would be for Smash! Only Advance Wars 1, 2, and DS were connected plot and characterwise beyond Sensei (who is suggested to be General Yamamoto from Super Famicom Wars). Battalion Wars 1 & 2 were also connected. Famicom Wars wasn't connected to anything. Just face it. Guys like Toon Link, Wolf, Lucas, and Ike were much higher on the list than Andy, Sami or any of their allies from Advance Wars. Personally, I think Flip's arguement of Takamaru needing to be in the game is more valid, since he was at least high on the poll. Also your arguements DO sound like mad ravings. Well, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and not buy Brawl? Why not show support by getting people to sign a written petition to get your favorite character into the next game, and send it via snail mail because few companies care about online petitions? Why not do something other than complain on message boards about a game you haven't played? You remember that line from Super Paper Mario, don't you? I'm sorry that Brawl can't live up to the Brawl Fantasy Game in your mind that you wanted, but this is the real world where space and time comstrants are an issue.

SAM, there's really no need to get offensive towards them like that, we don't want this to be a full-on flame war. He's already said he's not upset enough to not buy it and that he'll still enjoy the game. We should all probably just drop it.

Ok, fine... Sorry, Masamune. It's just that it seems everyone is complaining about the game without playing it. I believe in the policy of try before you judge. Now I admit, Brawl could suck, but I won't know that until I get it March 9. I'm willing to give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt because you know... They make kickin' games. I mean just who here expected or wanted Dr. Mario in Melee? But yet, Melee still kicks.
