Ask what?
You know, never mind, I don't care. I insist that the topic of a friend of yours working for Sega is completely ridiculous whether or not it's true, especially since the point of this thread is "What ___ should be in Mario & Sonic Olympics 2?"

Ahem... Anyway, I can sort of see why a sports title was decided for Mario and Sonic instead of the a true game many had hope for. Mario and Sonic's game styles contrast so greatly it almost seems impossible to put them in an actual game together without changing one or the other greatly. Maybe back in the SNES generation a game would have been easier to merge. But you know, I'm sure I could come up with something that could work. I know dialogue's a problem as Mario doesn't talk and Sonic is always talking... But that's okay, because usually in Mario games other characters do the talking for Mario, or Mario would respond with his actions. I guess that could work.

Well, yes, but this place has never been that strict on thread subjects. Conversations evolve, go with it. I meant you should ask him which games are considered the main series, since you don't want to take my word for it. EDIT: This is where Sonic is different, they seem to have been including large amounts of their main characters in every game instead of including certain characters in every other game. Like Knucles will appear in this game, and Shadow will appear in that game. Sonic Team do this just as much as Nintendo do. The only game which featured a particularly large cast was Sonic Heroes, but that was designed to feature as many characters as possible for Sonic's multi-platform debut. Look at Shadow - he's been in roughly half of the games made since his debut. In fact, the only characters who've appeared in every game since their first are Sonic, Eggman and Tails. Which, I think, is as it should be. Amy first showed up way back in Sonic CD, then sat out for Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles before coming back for Sonic Adventure. She's remained constant since then, but stayed out of Sonic Advance 2's story. Knuckles was a constant (much to my annoyance), but he recently sat out Sonic Rush Adventure and Sonic Unleashed. Shadow shows up a lot (he is the most requested character, after all) but he stayed out of the Rush and Advance series entirely, and only cameoed in the Riders games and Secret Rings. Silver has only ever been in '06 and the Rivals series. Blaze has only ever been in '06 and the Rush series. Cream was a constant for a while, but sat out of every game made after Sonic Rush... So really, they do a lot of mix and matching with their characters. That's why Sonic fans spend so much time speculating on who'll be in the next game.

It's also why a lot of us want to see some pre-DC characters come back. Fang is a much more interesting character than Marine at any rate. Like I said before Shrike, the problem isn't in how many characters they have but rather they way they handle them, which these days is usually pretty poorly.

Mm, Knuckles is the prime example of this. But it looks like they might actually be learning that, since they haven't tried to shoehorn him into every game possible lately.

Meh, whatever. But I'm done with the Sonic series talk and am sticking to topic: M&S2.
What wierds me out about M&S2 is that it's probably going to have hockey, and it's the one of the few sports Mario hasn't touched yet.
Wow, I'm into hockey now aren't I?

Well, Ice Hockey was one of those 'special' mini-games in Mario Party 5...not that I think that that counts in any way, but...

New trailer. Confirms Bowser Jr. and Silver as characters. (And DK and Metal Sonic, 'case you never found out about them)
In other random news, the game's official site seems to say DK is faster than Sonic. No comment.
EDIT: Nevermind. They seem to have edited it.

That's because Nintendo, you know, published F-Zero GX. They're not publishing this game, though (well, except in Japan). And Nintendo and SEGA are Japanese companies.

Well with the site updated with new characters and stats (Wii and DS characters have different stats) I took the liberty of using Print Screen and having a better look at the stats. Using photoshop, I was able to divide each bar into 32 equal pieces thus measuring the characters' stats in units. Here's what I got:
MARIO WII: Spd=28 Acc=25 Pow=23 Skl=25 MARIO DS: Spd=22 Jmp=19 Pow=22 Tec=22 Stm=20
