You all should know the very good game called The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It was the first game in the Zelda series to have a 2-world system, The Light and Dark worlds. The system appears in Ocarina of Time, and Oracle of Ages, where the two worlds were past and future.
I ask a simple question today, is it the same in A Link to the Past? Is it time traveling?
For years, I have always thought of the Dark World as the past. That's what I was told, and that's what the title suggests: A Link to the Past.
But recently, I've been starting to think about this, is it really time traveling? These thoughts conflicted with my belief: Time is never mentioned in the game. It's always referred to as the Dark and Light Worlds. Events in the Light World effect the dark: such as the draining of the water. However, this could mean the Light World is the past. The Dark World is a chaotic time, ruled by Ganon. If it was the past, wouldn't the future be the same, since Ganon can only be defeated by Link? Of course, this could also mean that the Light World was peaceful because of Link. How could you turn into what's reflected in your heart when entering The "past"? Is it an era of magical curses brought forth by Ganon? Why is the "Past" known as the "Golden Land"? How did the Dark World "Vanish"?
I wish to discuss the issues at hand, so if you have something to say, then say it.

When English titles of games don't make much sense, you should look at their Japanese titles. "Triforce of the Gods" doesn't contain time-related terms at all. The title was likely changed to avoid religious references.
So you travel to the Golden Land which is a parallel Hyrule and has been invaded by Ganon and turned into the Dark Land.
Maybe it's referring to a "link" to the "past events" described in the game's intro? Seven maidens are descendants of the seven wise men of the past.

The manual makes it pretty clear the Dark World is what's left of the Golden Realm- where the thief Ganondorf Dragmire corrupted the Triforce. That story was, of course, told in Ocarina of Time.

Well that about wraps it up, but it's still strange, if I tell everybody that there was no time travel in Alttp, their universes will collapse around them. Still, it was strange to have that as a name. Now we know that there is no time traveling, although I'm sure The Dark World exists on an alternate plane of existence.

The Dark World is the same area Ganondorf was banished to in Ocarina of Time. Twilight Princess also alludes to a Link to the Past when it shows Ganondorf killing one of the seven sages to escape the Dark World...again.

Actually, I thought they were killing him for good in Twilight Princess.

Actually, I thought they were killing him for good in Twilight Princess. I was talking about near the middle of the game.

Actually, I thought they were killing him for good in Twilight Princess. They tried, but failed.

I'm not doubting you; I just don't get it.

Some of the members made a comparison when Twilight Princess had just been released. The sages all look alike in Twilight Princess, just like in A Link to the Past's flashblack but unlike in Ocarina of Time.

That one, too, among others, but the one about the sages is the one that I remembered immediately.

I don't know which timeline Link to the Past connects to. But I do know that all Zelda games root from Ocarina of Time.
(with the exception of the Four Sword series which I have NO idea where that's coming from)
