I thought the general rule was that in fiction, ALL legends were true. How often are they not?

I think that's only a rule in Pokémon.

Authors don't make up legends in fiction unless they intend to make good on them, or the plot is specifically about legends not being true.

Yes this is true. Unless there's a plot twist, what's the point in having a legend in fiction if it isn't true?

I've seen the "Oh, whoops, the legend was a lie" story done a lot more often than the "The legend was true all along!" one.

You always manage to be in the minority on these issues, don't ya Kirb? I'm pretty much with Fryguy and the rest on this one. Don't know what kind of fiction you read on a regular basis.

Legends are usually based on something though. Propaganda, fear of the unknown, or a true event blown out of all proportion. You could even call the era of the pirates a modern legend - as it actually only happened for a few years, and it was nowhere near as romanticised as today, but still based on something that actually happened. But the point is, The Legend of Zelda is a legendary tale based on selling videogames and making loads of money for Nintendo. It's a fictional legend, not based on something that actually happened, not based on fear or propaganda... It's a fantastical tale told within a fictional world. Treating it as anything else is what separates me from the rest of humanity, apparently

Oh I thought we were talking about the legends told within the game.

I thought the general rule was that in fiction, ALL legends were true. How often are they not? The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Yeah, so did I. Its clear that it was Brom Bones at the end posing as the Hessian, but wasn't here something else that suggested there was something to the legend?

Oh I thought we were talking about the legends told within the game. The Legend of Zelda? The Legend of the Golden Power? The Legendary Hero? The Legend of the Imprisoning War? The legends in the game ARE the game (or at least other games in the series).

Oh yeah, except for the first war for the Triforce... That's never seen.
Hey that would make a cool game huh? It seems these legends are told first and then they make a game about them later.

Which first war? If you mean the one mentioned in the Link to the Past manual, yeah, we did. It was called Ocarina of Time. =P

No the one where everyone was fighting for the Triforce. The one mentioned in the Shadow Temple of Ocarina of Time and mentioned in Twilight Princess.
Before the Temple of Time was built to protect the Sacred Realm.
