Hm? In a recent interview with Miyamoto, he claims there will be even LESS story in this game than the first... How is that even possible? Galaxy barely had any story to begin with, and now it has even less? God, I can't believe Miyamoto used to be my hero. I guess this means that there won't be something like Rosalina's storybook. Anyway, I don't await complex storylines in platformers. The story how it was in Sunshine and Galaxy 1 is just right for me. The Mario RPGs are the right place for deeper stories. Miyamoto will stay my hero because of his great influential games and the iconic characters he created.

www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/06/super-mario-galaxy-2/Just before the discussion goes on, take a look at the interview first. I'm actually more on the "I want story" side. Just don't make the story looks like Super Paper Mario or something too dark like that. And I seriously want to see Rosalina back, without the Comet Observatory getting attacked again.

Yeah just because you want more story doesn't mean it has to be anything overdone.
Anyway the real reason I was disappointed in Miyamoto was because I found out he didn't truly invent Mario. It was an accident.
But enough about that.

An accident? What? How?

One of two things: The loss of the Popeye license, or having to create the Mario sprite with mustache and hat to avoid extra animation.

Yes basically.

Well, as long as there is SOME plot. There's obviously something afoot as we see both doomships and shadow Marios.
In my dream Galaxy 2, it would probably involve something like Mario and Luigi both getting sent back into space to "remove them from the planet" so Bowser can take it over. In the process, they find the Koopalings have now conquered various sections of space and have to defeat them to make it back to the Mushroom World and fight Bowser at a classic Dark World style area.

Hm? In a recent interview with Miyamoto, he claims there will be even LESS story in this game than the first... How is that even possible? Galaxy barely had any story to begin with, and now it has even less? God, I can't believe Miyamoto used to be my hero. That was before I found out he had nothing to do with the very things I love in Mario! Go read a book if you want a story. 100% of the effort going into Galaxy 2 should go into making it play awesome. The story is useless. But already know it'll play awesome! It's motherfucking Super Mario Galaxy 2! QFT, boys. Whenever a main Mario game has a story, it means that there are cutscenes - and cutscenes in a platformer are bad because it just keeps me from "the part where I actually push buttons" (Yahtzee). The best part of Mario games involve pushing buttons - why do I have to sit through watching Peach's plane land on Delfino Isle airport, or instructions on how to use FLUDD every time I start a new playthrough in Mario Sunshine? Where's my "press A to skip" option? I just wanna have some fun with my water pack, plzkthx. XD But I won't deny that I liked Super Paper Mario's story. I'm a sucker for dark plots in otherwise cheery settings (not just games). ;D Just as long as it doesn't get too contrived. Anyway the real reason I was disappointed in Miyamoto was because I found out he didn't truly invent Mario. It was an accident. One of two things: The loss of the Popeye license, or having to create the Mario sprite with mustache and hat to avoid extra animation. Koopaul - just because Mario was invented by accident doesn't mean Shiggy didn't invent him at all. A lot of great inventions - in a physical and literary sense - happened by accident, so it's not an informal way to make something. Do you discredit Doc Brown for inventing the Flux Capacitor just because he got inspired from whacking his head on his bathroom sink? If so, you're an abominable person to your culture, my friend. XD

I'd say we need a "suitable amount" of story deepness, not none. Having no story in a game means:
You start a game with nothing. Fine. You can just get yourself around. But a cutscene makes you less confusing. Like Mario 64 confused me at even "where should I go?"
You don't see why your character is moving around. Fine too. A Flash game named "N" actually parodies this fact. But cutscenes can be motivating. Plus they are pretty and shows things never achievable by gameplay itself.
You beat the game with no cutscenes? HECK NO. I don't think I'll like it if I beat a difficult game with the "Finally!" feel and get greeted with "CONGRATULATION! YOU BEAT THE GAME. YOU ARE SUPER HERO! OH AND U R MR GAY 2!" - without anything else, not even a nice BGM or staff credit.
...So no. Going either way of "story" or "no story" is dangerous. Miyamoto took the right step, I guess, seeing how he still uses more story than the horrible SMB1 (Thank you Mario but our Princess is in another castle*7). But he presented himself wrongly in the interview that he sounds like he means "I want zero story elements".

To tell you the truth, I'm not interested in this game in the slightest.
It just seems like a re-hash to me.

Hey its more than that. He doesn't develop the "soul" of the games he makes. He didn't create the lore for Zelda. He didn't really make Mario, just some "jump man" to save some "lady".
The guy creates skeletons. Not the flesh and blood. His ideas are revolved around gameplay and I was disappointed to find out that Mario and Zelda's worlds were a collaboration of other people's ideas.

Koopaul, how old are you? I know it seems out of the blue to ask this, but trust me, there's a good reason.

Does my comment surprise you? I've already confirmed my true reasons for loving Mario in the past.

...Koopaul has a point. Miyamoto creates gimmicks, not stories.
