Fuck that Mario Party imitation Must I? As I understand it, Super Stars are specifically the ones that power Peach's Castle and do NOT make Mario invincible. Like Grand Stars, which power Rosalina's Observatory. The invincible kind were originally Starmen, but are now just Stars. Koopalings were only Koopa Kids in the TV show, Chain Chomps are only called Chomps when there are no chains attached to them (except in Mario RPG, but that game is full of inconsistencies), and Hip Drop is the Japanese name of the Ground Pound. And ? Blocks are officially called Item Blocks, at least in the recent games. Mystery Block was used, what? Once? Twenty Years ago? I wouldn't call any of those name particularly interchangeable. I have finished the main game, but haven't played any of the secret world yet. My girlfriend got me Mario Kart Wii, so I have been throwing my remotes around in frustration at that instead. WHY DOES EVERYTHING ALWAYS HIT ME ON THE LAST CORNER.

Which games specifically refer to those blocks as "Item Blocks"? I haven't picked that up in the New SMB Wii instruction manual, as far as I know. (Though this does make more sense in this context) I understand what you mean with the Chomps, but incidentally, they're more often seen with the chains. Kinda uncommon otherwise, though some distinctions have their own names (Fire Chomp, etc.).
Good luck with most of those Star Coins. As for Mario Kart Wii, which controller are you using? Have you tried out the Wii Wheel a lot? For some reason, I'm way too used to using that...

Hmm. I'm sure I remember NSMBW calling them Item Blocks in-game, but looking at the manuals for both NSMB games, they call them ? Blocks. So maybe I'm wrong on that one. I've been using the Gamecube controller mostly. I've tried it with remotes and the Wii Wheel, but it just felt unfamiliar and... strange. But the frustrating thing is that, on the higher cc cups, I'll be in first until the last corner, when I'll usually get hit by a red shell, blue shell, Bullet Bill and lightning all within a second or two of each other. I'm in the Mirror Cups now, with only one ? left on the character screen. But I just can't seem to get it...

Super Stars is also how the faceless Starmen are called in Yoshi's Island.
I'm sure the term Hip Drop is in some English game, too. Maybe the Mario Party series.

I'm pretty sure the ones in Peach's Castle are called "Power Stars". The terms "Super Star" has popped up as an alternate name for the Starman, such as in Mario Kart or in Yoshi's Island as Johans pointed out. Yet in Mario Party and SMG, the Power Stars are just called "Stars". I'd prefer to think that they're all the same thing, and that sometimes they grant invincibility and sometimes they act as a power source depending on what the person in possession of the star wants to do with it. Hell, in Yoshi's Island the star gives Baby Mario a cape even though we all know that's what the Feather is supposed to do. I'm sure the term Hip Drop is in some English game, too. Maybe the Mario Party series. Yeah. The first Mario Party didn't have some of the localizations already established in previous games, such as the character's voices.

I'm pretty sure the ones in Peach's Castle are called "Power Stars". Ah, you're right. But from the looks of it, the only stars actually referred to as Super Stars are the no-facey ones from the YI games. My Mario Kart manuals just say "Star".

The fact is that these Japanese guys must've gotten the idea that they were his children somewhere. Right? They wouldn't just pull that out of their asses for no reason now would they?
That's no evidence I know, but it at least informs us that there are some Japanese people who believe that they are his children.

That's no evidence I know, but it at least informs us that there are some Japanese people who believe that they are his children. *headdesk* Ahem. 1, Different people have different opinions. You don't suppose Japanese people are.... homogeneous, right? 2, They could have said that for many reasons. Their former collective name (コクッパ/Koopalings), they look like little Bowsers, they got the information from English media... None guarantee they are right, or wrong, or anything. The fact that "there are some Japanese people who believe that they are his children" tells us nothing. Heck, how can you confirm that the person who made that web page is Japanese? You saying the writer of this page is Japanese is similar to how this writer says they are Bowser's childrens. Implication, without citations. Some (hopefully) final thought here... If you think the Koopalings are Bowser's children, so be it. I beg of you, please don't try to push your thoughts to everywhere in NinDB forums and attempt to ruin topics with that. This topic is not even about Koopalings debates.

The fact that it includes the King Koopa from the Hollywood movie kinda proves that whoever made that site has been exposed to more than just the Japanese media, anyway.

I think Koopaul's point was that Japanese Mario fans are certainly not against the idea of the Koopalings being Bowser's kids, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal for any of us to say the same.

Yeah something like that. I used to think that it was exclusively westerners who believed that.
Anyway if you want to back on topic fine (not much to talk about at this point but) I kinda wished they didn't recycle the same world themes. I'd like them to revive some Mario Land worlds but I know that they weren't Miyamoto games so...
Miyamoto games seem to be on top hierchy of content. Other Mario games borrow/ used content from Miyamoto games but Miyamoto never uses content from other people's Mario games.

CHRIST! I've finally finished NSMBWii! At 3am last night, the last three Star Coins (in World 9-7) were collected. Damn, that level is a bitch!
The Koopa Kids aren't supposed to be Bowser's children... we have established this. However, the SMB3 manual and the SMB3 and SMW TV shows operated as if they were. And in today's internet-enabled day and age, we have crossover in what is "canon", which is just as likely to confuse matters for Japanese people as it does for us.
Fact is, if we're looking for canonical information, we have to operate with the latest releases and we have to operate with the original intent of the developers. The Koopa Kids is only awkward because a lot of the character development of the Koopa Kids was born in the US (the character names and even some of their personalities are based entirely on the Western localization).
But we have covered this discussion. The facts have been laid out for everybody here to read. You can either cling to the formerly accepted but outdated notion that the Koopa Kids are Bowser's children, or you can go with the modern stance (which is closer to Japan's original concept) where they are simply a gang of Bowser's flunkies called the Koopa Kids, but Bowser has only one child - Bowser Jr.
It's hard to let go of such a strongly held notion, but there you go.

I said on a previous page that I decided to compromise the two notions and say the Koopalings are Bowser's nephews and niece. This stuff is easy when you're an old-school cartoon fan.

Well, to me, even 9-4 and 9-7 New SMB Wii are not difficult enough. Basically, in most cases, just enter with Propeller Mushroom on and nothing is difficult.
