Miyamoto directed Paper Mario's development and not Mario Party 5's. You only proved Koopaul's point further.

Oh, he did?
I don't think Miyamoto was involved much in Paper Mario series (didn't read the credits)....
Oh well, maybe the first game's the exception. PM1 is unusually more Mario-like than the sequels (which take much darker themes).

Even if his involvement in the Paper Mario series is minimal it has to be more than Mario Party. I mean, come on...

Whoa.... that's... Well, to me, even 9-4 and 9-7 New SMB Wii are not difficult enough. Basically, in most cases, just enter with Propeller Mushroom on and nothing is difficult. Yeah, in most cases. 9-7 wasn't that hard to run through, but getting the Star Coins was a pain in the arse! I could get through the first patch just fine, but then you had to get through the ice to the 2nd coin. Using a Fire Flower is suicide, so you have to let the Venus Fire Traps do it for you, then run and slide under the row of Fire Traps and hope they haven't destroyed too many of the blocks of ice under them. This was where the penguin suit came in handy. Then there are two Fire Bros. Easy to pass, but no... you have to get to the coin under the structure they're shooting fire at. It's a bastard of a level! And for the record, I didn't like using the Propeller Hat much. It felt too much like cheating!

Really, really easy with Propeller Mushroom. Drop, fly back, repeat.
Since 9-3 and 9-4 feature Star Coins unreachable by Propeller Mushroom (would need Ice Flower or Penguin Suit), those stages are actually more difficult for me =P
But really, even without Propeller Mushroom, Mario's abilities are cheater-like already. If you want a difficult platformer, look for Yoshi's Island series, not Mario.

You see, I really didn't have a problem with that icy stage (except dodging those damnable penguins!)
The Yoshi's Island games are no harder. Well... Yoshi's Universal Gravitation is hard, but only because the controls are awful. I genuinely didn't have any problems beating Yoshi's Island DS... some of the puzzles to get the baby coins were challenging, but that's just puzzles.

Well, I can't find those Red Coins / Flowers / Baby Coins in the first place =P
Especially when the stage is autoscrolling. Chances are I'll miss the coins before I can reach them.
New SMB Wii is much kinder to the player at that aspect. Stages are shorter, and you have less than 2 screens to look out for. The techniques for getting what's needed is different too. Precise-timing, no-miss acrobatic vs Propeller-Mushroom-solves-almost-everything.
If Yoshi flies, I'll say Yoshi's Island DS is easy =P Riding wind at specific areas don't count.

Bitch bitch, moan moan.
I thought NSMBW was one of the most challenging games I've played, and I don't care what anyone else thinks.
EVER.

...You don't have to care about what I or others say, yes. I'm known for having different perceptions than most people anyway, although I think most Mario veterans will say this game is still easy in overall. (I'd like, for example, 9-4 or 9-5 as your usual introductory stage, but it's unlikely to see something like that actually made)
I'm much used to Mario series, and I played the game in a manner that makes it much easier (beat the game and get the ability to save first before actually exploring around). But then, not everyone is good with platformers, just like how I'm bad with most genres of games.
And I'm not complaining either. I do appreciate simple games like that, they're such good time-killer if I'm just bored.
On something more on topic, I got 99 of all items, save the Invincibility Stars (whatever you call them) and I got 11300000+ points. Repeat what I did 8 more times and I'll max out the score (which does not take a long time, and does not have pressures either if I play the game a bit at a time)!

YL, I have yet to see anybody anywhere that has claimed NSMBWii to be easy. Seriously dude, what planet are you from and what kind of standards to they have there?

Once again, I'm bad at gaming. And New SMB Wii is supposed to be difficult judging from the stage layut alone. But if I go back to 1-1, grab a Propeller Mushroom, before playing whatever stage I am in, things will become much easier. You can name some game you think is easy that will prove to be an impossible feat to me. So yeah, it's just a matter of preferences. For example, I see many to be good at rhythm games.... which I'll have no problem in sucking at. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM6UHK5IA8gLook at the comment. There, someone saying 9-7 is easy, although the context there was to make it a speed run, so it's a bit streching it here. And in case you wonder, I'm an Earthling. Same Earth as yours.

See, I would consider myself a Mario veteran. I haven't been playing since the beginning (having not been born yet when SMB came out), but I've finished every game at some point or other... I didn't consider any one of them to be particularly easy, but NSMBW is definitely among the hardest.
I had 99 lives by World 3, but... it wasn't that the game was easy, it was just that it threw lives at you. I'd lose five lives on some of the later levels, but pick up seven while losing them.

I thought the game was quite tough for a Mario title, but I never made the Super Guide appear. I think I spent 5 lives at most on three or so levels. I figured I could come back later to get the Star Coins on those. I wouldn't call it easy, though. Then again, I think SMB3 is fairly easy until World 8, so...

The way you guys are going on and on about how hard NSMBWii is makes me think that if I do get NSMBWii, I would make the Super Guide appear so many times since I had so many tries in NSMB for the DS. Not that I am complaining, I do enjoy a good challenge.

The key thing with NSMBWii, as with most contemporary Nintendo games, is that it's never unfair. You get more lives than you lose (I think I hit 99 by World 3 in 1-Player Mode, although I struggled to get more than 15 in multiplayer due to the screen-scrolling trap).
I didn't even activate the Super Guide once. I was able to get through the later stages the second or third time every time. The point is... I was able to get through them the SECOND or THIRD time! That rarely happens for me. I beat NSMB on DS and lost about 5 lives the entire game (most of those at the end).
The trick is... making a game harder involves either screwing the controls (Yoshi's Universal Gravitation), throwing in things that are unfair or cruel to the player (The Lost Levels) or keeping it the same but throwing dozens of everything at you (NSMBWii). Suffice to say, only the third one can be a really great game as well.
Mario is limited by the successes of the past, leading to high expectations of his future... and yet they still managed to make a game that challenged people who have been playing his games since the 80's, myself included!
I'm sorry you didn't feel that way, YL, but perhaps you could challenge yourself to play through the game without using the propeller hat (except in levels where it's required). It is this game's P-Wing or Blue Yoshi!
