The Super Mario 64 statue mysterious message that may or may not refer to Luigi. I'm so sick of hearing about this "secret message". It's just a blurry texture. -The Out-of-this dimension level in Starfox. Eh... I wouldn't count that. It's a secret stage, but... so are like half the stages in Super Mario World. And it'd take a long time to include every hidden stage in every Nintendo game. -Nudity in Nintendo games  |

Nintendo's extreme censorship back in teh 80s and 90s made it interesting when stuff like that slipped by. Case in point: The aforementioned KI tits, Ness being stark naked in the Japanese Magicant.

The Magicant thing didn't "slip through". Japan's censorship policy (both at Nintendo and generally as a country) is very very different to that in the US, and different again in Europe. And apparently Australia is giving American censorship a run for its money for "biggest douchebag" these days.
It's still impressive to see that certain religious symbols made it in to the early NES first party games, given their crushing of all first- and third-party religious references (crucifix symbols in Legend of Zelda's shield and headstones, for example).
Edit The blurry statue texture says "Eternal Star". No idea what the bit underneath says. No reference to "L is Real Star" or whatever. It says Eternal Star. Now we drop this FOREVER.

I would like to know what things NOE has actually censored so far in their own translations (not the ones adapted from NOA). They left Pinkle's moaning and the Hard Gay-like bridge builders in Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland uncensored, I'll bet you that NOA would have done different. One can also see differences when they adapted NOA's English translation while the translators of the other languages such as French and German used the Japanese text as a reference. For example, the so-called "Chuckola Cola" is actually wine as proved by the German and probably other Euro translations, but the UK English translators didn't revert NOA's censoring. Some of NOA's censoring is just ridiculous. For example, Chain Chomp Roulette is changed to "Chain Chomp Wheel" in MKWii. Do they think that kids run into the casinos and become gambling junkies because they read the word roulette? Also, in Wario Land Shake, they removed the "Shaking Casino" sign in Glittertown even if it is obvious that Wario visits a casino and all the casino atmosphere is still intact. |

I don't think NoE themselves did much censoring, other than what was supplied by NoA. However, the European Union has always placed some quite heavy restrictions on things supplied to kids.
Hence "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" instead of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Ninjas are violence personified, Mmm-kay! Certain games weren't released here for that reason.

How could "Drugs" have possibly slipped in Earthbound and Pokey's Dad getting drunk in the Cafe (Hell, it was even translated)?

Uh....they didn't? The only instance of the word "drug" was the Drug Story sign, and all references to alcohol were changed to "coffee". Hence, Pokey's dad had "too much coffee" if I recall correctly.

Your pictures aren't working for me... But I remember them calling beer coffee, too. It's like how Ingo gets drunk on milk at the bar in Majora's Mask. Though that was in the Japanese version too.

Bad choice of words on my part. If you ever do features on the site, I'd be happy to write one about the odd differences between EarthBound and Mother 2 for you. Also, Shigasoto Itoi's message to the player in MOTHER def counts. |

Nenson, as an acquittance of Flying Omelette, I'm fairly sure she doesn't want you linking directly to her images. Links to the pages that they are on themselves would suffice, methinks (and her writeups could help provide some context to your points...she's very good at that type of thing).
