Mother / EarthBound are full of these interesting little things. Many of them have already been posted elsewhere on the forums (eg. the Sesame Seeds in the desert, the "removal" of alcohol).
Myself and Flying Omelette had a brief acquaintance years back when I submitted a ton of cameos with NinDB as the source, and he let me pinch a few screens in return. I wouldn't take anything from his site without sourcing him.
This is why I ask that when you post ANY cameo or mystery that you CITE THE SOURCE YOU GOT IT FROM!
That includes if you found it and took the screens yourself, because then I can give you 100% credit for finding it (if, indeed, you were the first one to send it).

In that case, I took the screens for the Yoshi's Island developer comment and the Pokemon Pinball high scores. By the way, when are you going to open up a thread for DS/ Gamecube/ Wii/ etc. cameos?

I sat down to do the Gamecube cameo list and it took aaaaages... then I realised I was barely quarter of the way through. (not even including Smash Bros. which will be done separately). I then ran out of time at work and had to abandon ship. For the last few, I may work backwards towards the Gamecube, as that's clearly Cameo Mecca, while Wii and DS will be relatively easy to get. Except Wii screens, as that will mean rigging my PC and TV card up to the Wii again, which is a pain as my PC is in pieces dotted around the house

I don't have a cite for this, but Miyamoto revealed Koopa- Bowser- was named after an Indian dish a while back. Then again, Bowser seems to have originally been an ox-- no cite either- so the Koopas may be based on the Kappa. Hell, maybe it's a double joke. I HAVE A CITE FOR ONCE!: www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/systems/volume_8_14207.html#topIt's under part 4. From TMK.net.

As with all the Iwata Asks interviews... this was utterly fascinating. And thanks to that, I can even bring you the character Bowser's design is based on! Surprise: Alakazam the Great is the poorly translated version of a Journey to the West anime. The "ox" in question is Gyu-mao (King Gruesome in the English version). And here he is: I can definitely see the similarity there! Also, it's awesome to find out that one guy was responsible for the bulk of Nintendo's artwork (and therefore responsible for why I love drawing so much). And he did the 3D models for all of the Pokemon too! What a guy

Thanks for the image, now I get to see that ox, the inspiration behind Bowser aka Koopa! Awesome! Yeah, the Iwata Asks interviews are full of interesting information, and it's great that almost all of them get translated into English (except for those on Japan-only games, of course). I wished they would also translate more of the interviews from the Nintendo Online Magazine, those also tell a lot ( N-Sider offers some translations).

I showed that pic to another forum, Fry, and someone pointed out that the Monkey King looks like Alex Kidd.
So... This means Alex Kidd once fought Bowser in a roundabout way. Crazy.

Haha, I always presumed Alex Kidd was loosely based on the Monkey King anyway. It would be cool if his design was specifically inspired by this movie though. Such high profile inspiration makes me wanna watch this movie

While we are it, does somebody know how Bowser got his English name? Does it have any special meaning in this case? We know about Mario, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Koopa (aka Bowser), Wario and Waluigi. Peach/Toadstool and Toad/Kinopio are pretty obvious. But what about "Bowser"? I read it's not uncommon as a dog's name... Such high profile inspiration makes me wanna watch this movie You can find "Alakazam the Great" at YouTube. I read the American localisation is pants, though.

I haven't been able to track down any other information. On the subject, I still stand by my original complaint that "Bowser Koopa" (with Koopa as a surname) is uncanon, but a widely spread assumption following the SMB cartoon series.

Isn't a bowser also a kind of oil tanker?

Bowser Pendant in Zelda Ocarina Of time? And other creepy Mario things like enemies that share similarities? Switched at Birth? And Yeah, I know most of you know about some of these. Also Piantismo in Mario Sunshine has the same texture underneath his mask as the racer in Mask. These are just some interesting things.
