Egg wasn't released in Japan (but it was released "outside of America"), although Mickey Mouse got an international release, which was basically a slightly easier version of Egg.
Egg was then in G&WG3 and has been referred to in many of the G&WG Museum modes. A sticker for it appeared in Brawl.
So Egg has officially replaced "Mickey Mouse" in the canonical Game & Watch ladida.
Regardless, I don't see how it's significant... has America's Test Kitchen been released outside of America? It's clearly a Cooking Navi game, but I haven't seen it released anywhere else.

Well, Egg works as a replacement since it doesn't involve a licensed character.
The G&W games Popeye, Snoopy Tennis and Mickey & Donald are a different story I guess.

Donkey Kong Circus also replaces another Mickey Mouse game. Too bad the others are pretty much lost.

Picross 3D: The puzzle in Level 5-B of the Tutorial is called Game Controller. It is clearly based on an SNES controller and features the colourful buttons as known in Japan and PAL regions. The buttons might be changed in the upcoming American release.

Just to confirm... The Earl Dervish "Want to be a winner is you?" reference is still in HeartGold/SoulSilver.
Didn't see anyone else confirming it.

Here are some more Heartgold/Soulsilver cameos. In Celadon City, the Game Freak building returns. If you go to the third floor all the creators are working on the game. Once you get 16 badges and talk to the sound designer, he will give you the GB Sounds item. Its image is a classic Gameboy with headphones attached and with it you can play the game with all the classic Gameboy music, including bicycle and battle music.
It's pretty awesome.

So, I downloaded A Kappa's Trail for DSiWare last week.
On the start screen if you swim over to the clam it'll sometimes turn you into a different character.
The first time it turned me into the traveling putty from Magical Starsign. The second time it turned me into one of those pigmask things from Mother 3. Mother 3, Magical Starsign, and A Kappa's Trail were all developed by Brownie Brown.
I'm not entirely sure what triggers making the clam transform you though, there have been plenty of times when I swam over to it and nothing happened.

If this game is what I think it is, the octopus on the title screen is from Mother 3 as well. It's Ocho the Octopus.

2 pages back , I got the links from Earthbound Central which confirms the Mother 3 Octopus and Pigmask cameos. But the Magical Starsign putty cameo is new, though.

There’s... no octopus on the title screen.
I guess that means I’ll be unlocking it later somehow.

Yeah, third post on A Kappa's Trail stuff. Probably should have just waited, sorry.
Anyway, on the title screen if you swim over to the flashing nondescript fish, the kappa will eat them. If you eat enough fish his stomach will start to buldge (wait around a while and it will shrink). Swim around a while and you'll eventually come across red, nondescript fish. Eat one and new fish and plant life will appear to permanently stay on the title screen. What pops out depends on the current state of your stomach.
One "plant" you might get is actually a pigmask with some red seaweed on top (it's in the picture Da Robot posted). And, yes, this is indeed how you get the octopus on the title screen.

If anyone has any ideas for getting half-decent DSi Ware screenshots, please let me know! 1) Take DSi into a darkroom with DSi back light on. 2) Take photo? It's low tech but it's worth trying ain't it?
