New Sonic-game coming, this time it seems to be centering on some colorful looking stuff, including aliens to give Sonic new powers to speed through stages in new ways. Sonic Colors at Sega America BlogThis was so unexpected, since we waited Sonic 4 these days... (-l_l-) Sonic Team and Sega, don't ruin the presentation. So, what ya think?

For a second, I thought this had something to do with Sonic RE-colors.

Those goofy 1 eye'd squids are awesome. Not sarcasm, squids rule
They're talking about 3D and 2D action mixed together so I'm guessing it'll be like Sonic Unleashed without the boring GOW night-time levels.

Why can't Sega just build up on Sonic's continuity? I counted eight squids. They could have easily just made seven and then just go on about them being spirits of the Chaos Emerald's or some other bullshit. That way it would make sense with them giving Sonic powers.
I dunno. Maybe I'm just pissy because the most recent Sonic game I thoroughly enjoyed was on the Dreamcast.

So so far we have Sonic + Power-up Squid-Aliens. So far so good.

Cue all Sonic fans bitching that this game is crap based on 0 seconds of gameplay footage. From what I saw, a lot of them are either indifferent due to lack of footage or enthusiastic about what was said in the press release. Chalk me up on the "indifferent so far" angle. I do like what was mentioned though. It reminds me of Chaotix, 3D Blast and Kirby Canvas Curse all at once.

I'm just basing it on what I've seen in the past. Sonic Unleashed was declared a terrible game by the fanbase months in advance of us actually seeing anything aside from screenshots of the opening movie.

I love Sonic threads. Outside of Brawl, I can't picture any other topic piling on replies any faster than these.
My opinion on Sonic is one of tired indifference, so I'll probably not be reappearing in this thread.

For a second, I thought this had something to do with Sonic RE-colors. Hahaha... I thought exactly the same thing when I read the thread's title. So... Sonic Colors, huh? I wonder if Sonic gets the amazing ability to transform into several Sonic recolors that are plaguing the Internet.

To be fair, the only review I read of Unleashed that was actually reviewing Unleashed was Edge magazine's. The rest just reviewed Sonic 2006 accompanied by Unleashed screenshots. When the game finally came out, the majority of the fanbase absolutely loved it and talked at length about how Sonic Team were back on track until about six months later, when they suddenly hated it again and apparently always had. And then I left, and have had nothing to do with Sonic fans since. They're weird.

I love Sonic threads. Outside of Brawl, I can't picture any other topic piling on replies any faster than these. Well, as far as third party games go, Sonic and Mega Man are the two game series that tend to get lots of replies. In the case of Sonic, the conversation doesn't really have much to do with the game in question as much it's a debate over whether it's worth looking forward to at all. The rest of it is about the crazy Sonic fan base, and a bunch of opinions on the "proper" way to make a Sonic game. Let's just keep it civil, eh? I don't yet have a lot to go on as far as Sonic Colors is concerned. What I am wondering, however, is if it will be a retail game, or a download for WiiWare/DSiWare.

Well, the press release for Sonic 4 said it was coming to WiiWare, while this one just says Wii and DS, so I expect they're probably retail releases. Sonic 4 is apparently Sonic Team testing the water with downloadable games, so I wouldn't think they'd release two seperate ones at once.
