I think it's just about my individual taste as a gamer not matching up with the rest of you. I'm excited about Pikmin and Mario, but I'm more excited about the fact that every one of my favourite 360 franchises (Batman, Rayman, Assassin's Creed, Sega Racing and Mass Effect) coming to Wii U, perhaps eliminating my current need to own more than one console. I'm excited about Lego City because I'm forced to play Lego games with my brother anyway and this one actually looks fun. And I'm excited about Nintendo Land because it looks like it could finally replace WarioWare Smooth Moves as my "friends are coming over" game. It's going to be a great year for me!

But are any of these 'extra selling points' of WiiU ports honestly worthy of $300 or $400 or whatever worth of hardware? And remember, these Wii only gamers don't automatically own a WiiU, so they still have to go out and pay for one - and if they want to go out and buy a console to play Assassin's Creed, how many will buy a WiiU, rather than, say, a much cheaper 360? Some will, sure, but I'd wager that number would be much more if there was a wider set of system sellers to back it up.
I just feel Nintendo has learned very little from the 3DS debacle, including making basically no effort to even make sure the console differentiates itself from the Wii (see the "can the WiiU accessory breathe life into the Wii?" CNN article), and failing to really find itself a system selling launch to either hardcore or casual gamers. There's some good stuff there, but I can't shake the feeling the WiiU might just be a bit of a disaster, and Nintendo don't seem to be helping to ease my mind.
EDIT: written to prior to the latest fry and kirb posts. I'm so slow.

I kinda hoped we could've got something suprising to hold on into... but seems like everything (expect maybe Nintendo Land) were known already beforehand... kinda left a bored taste on my mouth. Remember how MUCH things we were left waiting excitedly after last E3? There so many things for EVERYONE... but this year felt... not so much like that. We got loads of Wii U-info, Pikmin 3, a lots of Mario-games than is necessary and a new spinoff to Wii-series. Rest were 3rd parties which at times seemed so good they overshadowed what Nintendo had to offer. There wasn't anything very new or interesting enough to catch my interest that I haven't heard before: like, something so awesome and mindblowing for this E3. Also, No mention of Retro's project? No mention of other Nintendo's franchises (Mainly PKMN Black & White 2 and Fire Emblem: Kakusei?) I think this year will not hold us anything too exciting (expect discovering Wii U and Pikmin 3) to wait about. Unless 3DS Showcase Conference proves us wrong. I doubt that to happen though.

I feel slightly concerned for the whole Wii U launch. It's interesting that they have such a mix of titles which I believe is there just to please the stockholders. we want Nintendo iPhone games! Even though it will hurt the brand! Durrrrrrr!
Would casuals be interested in a title like SiNG, where the only feature advantage is facing away from the TV to sing to your friends? Compared to games like Singstar and others. One of the most interesting things I saw from the conference was the applause for Mass Effect 3. A game most of us already know the "ending" or heard about, it's seems there must obviosly be (Nintendo) gamers that want to jump into it but don't own the other platforms for it. Even though they don't have the first 2 games. Disaponnted that Nintendo didn't talk about anything really relating to user online accounts or even online multiplayer or DLC. Considering their big "digital" games push begins in August (2 months away!) with NSMB 2. Who knows maybe they might mention it tommorow? . . . Or would online multiplayer in games like Nintendo Land end up devaluing it's asymetrical multiplayer? The one thing that pissed me off, was in the E3.Nintendo live chat was how quite a few people seemed to expect a new Zelda title, 6 months after the last one . . . Or a new Smash Bros, 3 months after Sakarui finished working on KI:U. Do people not relise how long it takes to make games anymore? Non game related note: I think Reggie had a lot of great quotes from the show. I feel like a big purple Pikmin!, I like french food! and My body was readyHoly shit the Baby Yoshis are so high. It's all like, "Whoa man, what's going on? I was just born and shit. And I've already got shoes! And a shell, or something. Or mebbe it's a saddle. Man, evolution is crazy..." Can I please borrow this quote and turn it into a avatar tag?

Actually, one of the big reasons I'm looking to replace my 360 is the hidden costs that're coming up. I already own the console, but in order to properly enjoy all the games they're showing off now, I would apparently need to buy a Kinect sensor (£100), an iPhone (£480) and an iPad (£390). At the same time Nintendo is offering me a console that does all the same things on its own, but with games I actually want and full compatibility with everything I bought for their previous system at a currently-predicted £400. That is a much better deal for me. I'm all over it.

Well, I'll throw my hat briefly into the ring. The presser didn't wow me too much. Pikmin 3 looks great, but it's not my favorite franchise. My wife wants to play it, but I think she liked them more. I do like the control setup a lot, though. The Wii U NSMB interests me, yet the 3DS one failed to really appeal to me. The focus on coins seems superficial, like they ran out of ideas or something. It's great to see Raccoon Mario again, but I was a little more jazzed about Flying Squirrel Mario. Beyond that, I'm apathetic. Nintendo Land will probably be fun, but it's not a system seller for me. SiNG is not my cup of tea, nor is Wii Fit U. I think, as Fry noted, that the balance of the show was off. It started great and fizzled out quickly. ZombiU was better than I thought it would be, but it wasn't enough to save the latter half of the conference. Ah well. I'm happy with my PS3, so no rush I guess.

Yyyyep, as fun as Pikmin 3 will be, it's not enough for me to get a whole new piece of hardware. The way things look now I'll be holding off buying a WiiU for about 2 years until they release something I really want, just like I'm still waiting for FE13 to get here before I buy a 3DS and all those fancy first party games. That zombie roguelike really got my interest though. Yeah okay, this comparison kinda stings. The lackluster Nintendo conference kinda annoyed me, but then I remembered Pokemon Conquest and B/W2 are due for release soon and will hold me over for a few months and before I know it Tokyo Gameshow will roll around and Nintendo will show off stuff that actually matters (wishful thinking to the extreme) Oh and I happened to waste time checking random oldass Nintendo commercials pre-E3, thinking how different (better) the old Yoshi was. Really happy they actually brought back the stoner baby Yoshis

I dunno, I don't think we've ever actually seen a non-stoner baby yoshi, besides the one at the end of YIDS but he's a specific one.

Project P-100 is by Platinium Games. They've made Madworld, Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns and also made Viewtiful Joe 1 &2 , Okami and Godhand.
They're kind of a big deal. This bodes well for the game.

I missed the start but I watched the 3DS SS . . . Yeah . . . the only new thing they showed, was features of Paper Mario and the reason for all the collecting all the coins and co-op mode in NSMB 2. No Animal Crossing or Fire Emblem announcements . . .But all the software they were promoting seems to be coming out this year . . . so maybe that's the reason why? Also more dumbasses in the Nintendo chat, wanting SSB for 3DS.
