Ahh... so Pokémon-name-nite is the item that activates the Mega evolution... and Mega-Pokémon-name is the name of the Mega-evolved Pokémon.

I dunno. I assume there's a reason the Mega Evolutions aren't just regular evolutions. Perhaps they're more like Scyther/Scizor, where instead of growing stronger, their stats are distributed differently. Also it means we could get shit like THIS!

Mawile is good though. But she could've had a 'normal' evolution anyway. Yeah that's pretty lame. It's like, since they thought up this crazy new evolution method they decided every new evolution of previous gens should be done like this, for the sake of 'explaining' why you couldn't evolve them that way in previous games. See Wobbuffet's stupid pre-evo breeding requirements I dunno. I assume there's a reason the Mega Evolutions aren't just regular evolutions. Perhaps they're more like Scyther/Scizor, where instead of growing stronger, their stats are distributed differently. This is what I'm hoping for, a give and take change in stats with maybe a new second typing. These mega versions do look like 'ultimate' versions - Blaziken and Lucario look like they've been training under friggen Oni Akuma So, thing goes like this. Pokémon evolutionary families will have one specific item, called "[last evolutionary stage's name]-nite", as in Blazikenite, and there will be a generic item called "Mega Stone". An event Torchic will be distributed over Wi-Fi holding a Blazikenite, which means it is a held item rather than a key item (which might not be the case with the Mega Stone). If the anime is a bit consistent with the game, since Mewtwo can change between both forms, then that means these evolutions are reversible and probably need a held item to work, just like the Eviolite from Pokémon Black and White. Alright, if you need to sacrifice a held item for the form change I can accept the new forms to be pure stat boosters. Supposedly the magazine mentions the new forms are 'temporary' and 'battle-only', so maybe it's supposed to be like FF9's trance mode and runs out in a few turns. Augh, it would be nice to have some solid confirmations about this whole Mega shit. Not counting on Pokemon Sunday to give out more details about it

Just a correction: there's no such thing as an item called specifically "Mega Stone". Mega Stone is the generic name for held items like Blazikenite. So you just enter Blaziken into battle, holding a Blazikenite, and it will then evolve into Mega Blaziken. Event Torchic with Speed Boost holding a Blazikenite is confirmed as a Nintendo Wi-Fi Nintendo Network Mystery Gift for Western regions. This is now on the official site. Also a trailer

So... Mega Evolutions occur during battle, changing the ability and type... But they only last for the duration of battle? Hmm. So it's basically like a Pokemon Smash Attack.

Confirming the suffix "-nite". What would be the morphology for Dragonite?

Can't wait for the eventual MegaMEGAYanmamega lol I fucked up
So they unveiled another mega evolution at the Pokemon World Championship. Well, atleast one of them evolves.
I'd probably be happier with a pre-evo, but this kinda works.

I just noticed the baby is the one that evolves there. That's pretty great.

There is a numeric conceptual conflict in what really is a Kangaskhan. From a programming viewpoint (and since today, artistic), Kangaskhan is the mother-and-child set as a whole, which can be seen in this Mega Evolution, its new Ability (Parental Bond - lets Kangaskhan hit twice instead of once), its move Double Hit (typical of Pokémon with pairs of heads, appendages, etc.), or the fact that a mother-and-child entity lays Eggs with "children" mother-and-child entities in them. Kind of like how an Exeggcute head is not an Exeggcute in its own right.
In some Pokédex entries and the anime, which seems to be the common view, Kangakshan tends to mean "the mother", with "the child" being a "baby Kangaskhan". Which is why people feel this like an incomplete evolution.

Okay, here's my impression of baby Kangaskhan.
Prior to the Mega Evolution, what I've typically been saying about Kangaskhan since Generation 2 has been that the presence of the baby is a stylistic choice. My argument has been that, no, obviously the mother was not born with a baby already, it only appears that way because of graphical mandate. I honestly thought it made sense that they hadn't introduced a pre-evolution, since a mother Kangaskhan cares for its child, and separating the baby seems like it goes against that concept, so I'd rather deal with the bizarre appearance of a mother being born with a child, as opposed to seeing a baby version of a Pokemon that explicitly cares for and supervises its young. I stand by this even now.
However, now it gets rather confusing. For the sake of simplifying terms, the following will be used: Brown Kangaskhan are called Bruins, purple ones are Joeys, the breeding Kangaskhan is called the Mother, and the offspring is the Baby. With the Joey being the one who goes Mega, what does that mean? When you breed a Kangaskhan, that means that you now have a Kangaskhan being born, of course, but what now? We're rendered with the Mother, the Baby you hatched, and their respective Joeys. Here are our options on the family here. Options 1 and 2 dictate that the Mother had twins.
1) When you breed Kangaskhan, the Mother is the Joey. 2) When you breed Kangaskhan, the Mother is the Bruin. Kangaskhan used Squick Attack. Shrikeswind used Discretion. It's super effective! 3) When you breed Kangaskhan, you breed both Mother and Joey. Kangaskhan used Squick Attack. Shrikeswind used Discretion. It's super effective! 4) Something else is going on.

Just a trailer of all the Mega evolving, Mewtwo, Ampharos, Absol, Mawile, Metalgreymon . . .I find it funny that Ampharos gains it hair/fleece back when it mega-volves, it like it's going super saiyan (like that really high level of super saiyan where they gain fuckloads of hair in the process) Sheep mega evolves into . . . !. . . Did it work or not? I can't see shit. UNDO! UNDO!

That sheep is pretty much what came to mind when seeing Mega Evolution in general. Getting extra fluffy doesn't make the Pokémon feel tougher appearance-wise, IMO...

No idea where to post this and i don't feel like making a new thread.
So there's this Pokemon gameshow going on right now, with plenty of demo units for folks to try out Pokemon X&Y. Apparently if your mon can megaevolve, there'll be a bigas button for that on the bottom screen among your 4 attacks. You can megaevolve and use the move of your choice within the same turn.
This video was also played on a loop, which may or may not vaguely suggest a new Pokemon game at the very end (Wii U stadium game?)
Also there's going to be a Pokemon Red & Green special broadcast on October 2nd.
