Leads me to wonder why. I mean, I know it's not timeline-sanctioned, but we're seeing an awful lot of stuff off the Child Timeline.

The real reason is that it's way easier for Koei to recycle assets from TP & SS, than creating a bunch from old 2D games.

I'm still curious about the moon from Majora's Mask. And if they could take the OoT/MM Great Fairy (and make her look less horrifying), what's stopping others from those games?

Nintendo seem to be pretty obssessed with Twilight Princess in general. But I'm just still bitter that they kept TP Link and Zelda for Smash instead of replacing them with the (much cooler) Skyward Sword versions.

I'm wondering if that has to do with TP's popularity. It's weird in Smash's case, since we have everyone else updated. We have Other M Samus, round design Pikachu, FE12 Marth, Pikmin 3 Olimar, Wii Little Mac... and TP Zelda, for some reason.
If anything, I hope we get other versions of Link and Zelda costumes here.

Popularity is no doubt a factor, but you also have to consider design consistency between Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf.

Oh, right, Ganondorf. Forgot about him.

Shiek in Brawl is based off of an unused design from TP. If Ganondorf and Shiek had SS counterparts, I'm sure the Smash team would have all the characters based off of SS.

I don't see the problem with the characters being pulled from different timelines... Ones they belong to. Skyward Sword Link and Zelda, Twilight Princess Ganondorf, push Sheik back into Ocarina of Time since it's the only game she appeared in. It simultaneously represents the returning Smash Bros. characters and three games from the Zelda franchise.
Smash-exclusive forms for the Zelda characters wouldn't be a bad idea either.

it's the only game she appeared in. Ah, it always warms my heart when people refer to Sheik as a "she". Sorry, I just had to throw that out there that Sheik is an undeniable female.

I would like to point out that Skyward Sword Zelda is, yes, a Zelda, and importantly she's the most active Zelda in the series, but she's also odd design out. After Link to the Past, Zelda's maintained a fairly stable design for every appearance since...except in Skwyard Sword. Even Twilit Zelda isn't far off from the design. Check it. The biggest difference between the two is that Ocarinist Zelda has a collared shirt under her blouse. Then there's Skyward Zelda, whose dress is just completely different in every way. This also applies to Brawl's Sheik, and by extension SSB4's Sheik: The two really don't look too far off from Ocarinist Sheik. Again, check it. Biggest difference here is that Twilit Sheik (and thus Smash Sheik) taped the pale part to her legs. Side note: Check out Smash Sheik's shoes. Lighter than Twilit Sheik's, whose shoes are the same color as Ocarinist Sheik's.

This is best wishlist I could come up with. Shrikeswind has a point about the child timeline, though.

I don't know if I can think of too many specific characters that I'd want to see. I mean, I want to see a lot of characters, but I don't really have a particular wishlist... - Ashei Probably the most obscure character I can think of. In fact, I would like seeing all of the Resistance characters, but Ashei is the only one that's actually a warrior, IIRC. (Then again, if Agitha the bug girl can be a warrior...) - A Zora I don't know which one. Maybe even Zora Link from Majora's Mask (which was just an incarnation of Mikau). But I love Zoras. They're cool. - Sheik Obvious choice. Don't know why she wouldn't be in, even if it's just an alt costume for Zelda. While I'm at, Tetra also. Ah, it always warms my heart when people refer to Sheik as a "she". You can't spell Sheik without "she."

(Then again, if Agitha the bug girl can be a warrior...) I think Rusl & Auru were trained warriors, but Ashei was an actual professional soldier. I think Auru could actually make a good stand in for Ieyasu from Samurai Warriors, give him a canon blade and watch the mayhem. The Postman - I could see him using letters like the Taliman Cards from Dynasty Warriors. Gimmick characters like that are always fun to use. Sahasrahla - We need an older wizard character. Make him a character who appears for most of the game, but only takes to the battlefield at the endgame. Ingo - Make him a pseudo villain like in OoT. Armed with a pitchfork, he could be a very fun character. Prince Richard - A pseudo crossover character, I want him simply for fanservice.
