Hmm... The enemies seem pretty boring to fight and take way too long to defeat. That's going to get dull and repetitive fast. Amy's voice is a huge improvement, though. And the boss fight against Eggman looks fun.
But I can't shake the feeling I'm just looking at a Ratchet & Clank game reskinned with Sonic characters.

Well, this isn't technically Sonic Boom, but they just announced a Sonic movie. Live action/CGI hybrid from the creators of the Smurfs movies. Ew.
They're already talking about releasing Sonic movies every year, so you just KNOW the quality's gonna be high.
On the plus side, the TV show doesn't look too bad. The clip with Knuckles made me laugh at least.

So like I thought, the general consensus from people at E3 seems to be that the combat in the demo is very dull and repetitive. Which isn't good for a combat-focused game. I'm hearing good things about the 3DS game, though. And looks like Metal Sonic appears in it. His design looks... relatively if not completely unchanged, but it's hard to tell from those tiny, grainy screens. EDIT: Also, seen with the Sonic Boom toys, Orbot and Cubot. Looks like they haven't been redesigned either.

Looks like the Sonic Boom games are heading to Japan after all ...under the name "Sonic Toon." Hmm. I was wondering what Japanese fans thought of this "Western" version of Sonic.

They may have just changed the name because it's already in use so much elsewhere. I mean, within the Sonic franchise alone Sonic Boom is already the name of a song, an album, an episode of a TV series, a special move and an annual convention. There's some brand confusion going on there.
I wonder what made them change their minds? I gather Sonic never does very well in Japan anyway, but usually Western Sonic games do end up getting released there eventually... just much, much later. Maybe they're hoping the show might be a hit there. Wasn't that awful DKC series surprisingly successful in Japan?

But the song, the TV series and the annual convention aren't in Japan. Why would they be confused? And yes, the DKC series was a success in Japan. I have proof of it....to be revealed in another thread.

I'd agree on most of that, but the song's been released there several times. It's the only song from the US Sonic CD soundtrack that was included in the Japanese 20th anniversary soundtrack release, so that probably means it's popular with fans over there.. but they probably didn't know about it much before Brawl.
I'd guess the name change is probably a combination of them wanting to distance Boom from the song, and wanting to make it extra clear the games are tied to the TV show.

I gotta admit, the cartoon does look pretty funny!
I don't expect to get the game at launch, but maybe next year sometime.

I saw a video a few days ago of the cast doing live reads of a few scenes from the show. The dialogue and acting was pretty nice, I must say! I've got high hopes for it.

I was definitely expecting much worse. The tropical look of the show is nice, though. Even if the animation itself is pretty jerky (though I can't expect Pixar quality in a TV show...). I still don't know if I'll be playing the game, though.

It kinda reminds me of a mix of AoStH's tone and humor with SatAM's setting, only here Sonic's planet looks more like Tatooine than Dagobah.

They revealed the plots of four episodes, too. If I remember rightly, one has Tails build a universal translator that accidentally translates what people say into what they really mean, and Amy has to keep it from revealing how she feels about Sonic (I guess it's a secret in this show) and one has everybody take refuge in Amy's house during a storm, where they find a play she's written about characters obviously based on them.
And then the two that sounded most amazing to me - One where Amy and Eggman start playing an RPG together and have to keep it secret from everyone else, and one where Eggman accidentally blows up his house and has to crash on Sonic's couch for a while.
Not sure where all the fight scenes in the trailer fit into that, but the tone does seem to be somewhere between AoStH and SatAM. Hopefully it'll please fans of both. I'm way more of an AoStH fan myself, so the comedy I'm seeing here makes me happy.
