This definitely needs its own thread. As mentioned, it's being co-developed by Platinum Games. They also got some of the original Star Fox 64 voice actors back. (I assume it uses same cast as the 3DS version.) In the Digital Event, they specifically said it wasn't a sequel or a remake. I assumed it was a prequel, due to it being called Star Fox "Zero" (and also Pigma still being alive, and Peppy still flying an Arwing). Leon said he thought it was a reboot, but that's pretty much what Star Fox 64 was to the original, and I thought they said during Treehouse Live that that wasn't the case with Zero. (I'll need to check that again, tho.)
EDIT: Well, here Shigeru Miyamoto says it's definitely not a prequel, and that he thinks of it as a remake. How boring.

Star Fox was getting pretty convoluted and needed a reboot, so I'm not going to hold that against them.
I loved the Zoness footage they showed on Treehouse Live, that level looks really cool with Gyrowing. In Platinum we trust.

So…Anyone happy that Krystal isn't in this?

I'm not actually. I think that having some women as part of the main cast is important for growing the player base. Let little girls have their own characters to look up to, just as we did when we were kids.

Or they can give Katt and Bill much more extended roles than they had in SF64.
It is quite odd, though. Nintendo has been suddenly so kind to many of their female characters lately: Peach and Rosalina (3D World) Brittany (Pikmin 3) Zelda (Hyrule Warriors) Dixie Kong (DKC Tropical Freeze) Isabelle being pushed as the "face" of Animal Crossing The girl Inkling being portrayed as the "star" of Splatoon (occasionally with the boy Inkling, but it's mostly her on her own) More of them in Smash Bros. (compared to Brawl and back)
Too bad Star Fox and Metroid are sitting out on this department. And the Kirby series still has this weird-ass shortage of female characters.

This is coming from the only (I think?) fan of Star Fox Adventures on this forum, but I've never had a problem with Krystal. It is kinda strange that she goes from being a primitive tribal type of character to piloting an Arwing, but I accepted her as part of the team. Plus, her telepathic ability made her kind of unique and interesting, IMHO.
So, I wouldn't say I'm happy that she isn't in it, but at the same time, as an old school fan who remembers when Peppy was one of the main group, it's kinda cool to see the original line-up in action again.
Still, I don't think we've seen the last of Krystal, and I would definitely like to see her pop up again.

Heh. It's been a long time since I've played Assault (and I've never played Command), and I don't remember more than a passing reference to her telepathy, but I mean just the fact that she had it to begin with gave her the potential to be more than just the token female. But yeah, it would've been nice if they did emphasize it more as there's plenty of interesting things to do with it. EDIT:

She did use telepathy ONCE in Assault. It was how they knew Sauria was in trouble, if I remember right. To be honest, it looks like EAD are just reverting the series back to the state it was in last time they worked on it. But yeah, I'm glad Krystal isn't there. She's never felt like she belonged, and had practically no chemistry with any character other than Fox, largely due to that lack of personality she had in every game after Adventures. Katt is more interesting.
And with the amount of Star Fox 2 stuff showing up in this game, maybe the two girls from that will finally become official characters.

"I sense a mighty force." What was that? Katt is more interesting. Hell yeah. *fistbump*

I think she had some good exchanges with Falco, Slippy, and Peppy in Command. And even then, if she didn't work, why not just try harder? We don't want everyone to end up being Tingled do we?

I think trying too hard with a character that isn't working just ends up ruining the character. Krystal was cool in Adventures, but afterwards they had to change her a lot to make her fit in other games. It would've been much better if they had used just continued to use her as an occasional ally, trying to thrust her into a main character role forced them to turn her into a different character entirely. If they need a token female on the Star Fox team, I think Lucy was a far better fit.

How did she not work though? She was literally just "the girl" of the team. Replacing her with Lucy of all people would change nothing besides who is flying that Arwing.

She was a tribal character who fought using magic and was on a solo journey to find out what became of her home. In order for her to make any sense as a member of the team, every single aspect of her Adventures self had to be dropped. Krystal in the following games is literally only the same character in name and face. Because it makes no sense for the Star Fox team to hire someone whose primary skillset is magical staff fighting.
Lucy is a trained pilot, an astrophysicist, and the daughter of a current member. Those are all things that would totally support her role in the team and make for a far interesting character who actually offers more than just being "the girl". Because to be honest... saying "she was literally just "the girl"" isn't defending Krystal. That's exactly the thing that makes me glad to see the back of her. XD
