I just think this game is getting the benefit of the doubt because it has the name Star Fox attached and we are thirsty for an original SF game. If this was an original IP we would look at it with the same skepticism we view Project Giant Robot and Devil's Third with.

On a more serious note, I'm always under the impression that the whole Star Fox series is designed with single player in mind. The fact that team Star Fox has four Arwing pilots is just a coincidence. Actually, that was going to be my follow up comment: since I've only played SF64's single player and dabbled into its multiplayer maybe once of twice, I've never understood why the internet has always gone on about how this new game, and the SF64 remake for that matter, quote-on-quote needs multiplayer integrated, when what the trailers so far have shown is more of the SF64 goodness. Nothing spectacular, mind you, but appealing nonetheless. Was the SF64 multiplayer any good? I don't remember it being more than what seems like an afterthought, honestly. Maybe a case of nostalgia tinted glasses affecting people memories.

The multiplayer in SF64 was bogged down by having a rock paper scissors mechanic which didn't make the experience that fun. The 3DS version dramatically improved it, but neutered itself by neglecting to have online battles.

I see, good to know. I should really give those GCN Starfox games a try some day, so I can form my own opinion on them. All I know about them that the dino planet one is infamous for being too much of a... deviation (?) from the standard Starfox gameplay, with its on-foot sections.
I hope we get some meaningful information about this game that blows our pants off. Something akin to Bayonetta's Nintendo Direct that it got all for itself. So far, every tidbit we get from this game in directs feel more like afterthoughts than anything else.

If this was an original IP we would look at it with the same skepticism we view Project Giant Robot and Devil's Third with. I think if anything the Star Fox name increased my skepticism. It's been nearly 20 years since the last Star Fox game I really enjoyed. What I've seen of this one so far has made it my most anticipated upcoming game though. I think it looks awesome, I really don't understand why you're so against it. Was the SF64 multiplayer any good? I don't remember it being more than what seems like an afterthought, honestly. Maybe a case of nostalgia tinted glasses affecting people memories. I never really liked it that much. It was extremely bland and was pretty much just a race to who could get the laser powerups first in a big empty arena. Would've been much more interesting if they had co-op versions of some of the single player stages, IMO.

So...Nintendo has been quiet about this game. Very quiet. And it's got only two months until release.
Well, at least from not-Nintendo, there's this rumor going around about how they're having issues with working in motion controls.

It's not that unusual for them to be quiet about a game up until release. Look at Detective Pikachu. We barely knew it existed and suddenly it was out.

That's the same guy who said that Shovel Knight was going to be in Smash. His words should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism. Hashimoto wishes everyone a Happy Valentines Day with a little help from Bayonetta & Fox.

God damn that opening video. Love the throwback to Andross's old SNES sprite.

I was quite surprised by Fox's voice. He sounds younger than i imagined.

Fox has always had a fairly youthful sounding Japanese voice, which is particularly appropriate because he's only around 18 years old.
Here's a translation of the video by Star Fox Online.

Footage of the SNES Arwing in action, complete with ship sound effects and SNES music. Also interesting to note, there's still no knowledge of what the Falco amiibo does.
I will admit, I felt on the fence about this game but with the pre-order bonus of a physical disk version of Star Fox Guard, I do feel more tempted to buy it.

Falco must unlock the beautiful Assault Arwing.
Believe.

I still don't own any amiibo, but that is a really cool unlockable! I've got a soft spot for the original Star Fox.
