Ys X is likely Falcom's big 2023 game, so its release will probably be Autumn of next year for Japan.
Ys I & II Chronicles is considered the definitive, canon version of those games (which is an upgraded version of Ys I & II Complete, which in turn is an upgraded version of Ys Eternal and Ys II Eternal, so it goes back a couple of decades). The DS version is considered rather poor. Not sure if I want to see another remake of Ys I & II before a remake of Ys V.

Here's some early info about Ys X, and the first piece of artwork: Bullet points from Noisy Pixel:

OK, I didn't pay attention, but the artwork for the Expansion Pass includes Shulk's replica Monado from XC1: Future Connected, and Rex's/Pyra's/Mythra's sword from XC2, so... perhaps that confirms who the DLC Heroes will be?
Also, just wanted to say I love this screenshot Nintendo used.

The rest of the presentation was an overview trailer of the game, and everything just feels so big. The cast of characters is large, and that's a pretty big ability tree. I guess physical space isn't the only thing that's big about Xenoblade. When I first played the original game on the Wii, it was way more complex than I was expecting. All the Xenoblade games can be a little overwhelming with their sheer number of different systems and gameplay nuances. Unfortunately, they're also infamous for not explaining things very well. It looks like they've included quite a few user experience features (like freely adjustable time). I'm actually somewhat interested now. Don't think I'll try it (yet) due to sheer time limitation, but yeah, now I'm a bit curious. Adjustable time has been in every Xenoblade game. In general, the series is really good about QoL features. But yeah, any Xenoblade game requires some level of commitment. Also, it's a bit late to say this now, but I felt Xenoblade 1 and X were too western-styled to my taste, but the character design got considerably cuter later on. I'd say 3 more so than 2; the design in 2 went a bit too overboard, while the ones in 3 feel more in line with other JRPGs. Interestingly, all the Xeno games seem to suffer from a bit of an identity crisis in terms of style. Even with Xenosaga, episode I had very cute anime-style characters, whereas episode II went jarringly in the opposite directing with much more realistic, Western-style characters (which was rather unpopular). Episode III found the sweet spot. I think Xenoblade 3 has found that sweet spot, as well. (Although, I think XC1: Definitive Edition also did a good job of updating its character designs.)

So, to be honest, I'm a little surprised there was a Direct for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. There was one for XC2, but that was back in the Switch's first year, and I felt like it was because Nintendo needed to put more effort into showing what the platform had to offer. That's obviously not the case now, so this Direct was specifically for the sake of the game, itself, which I think demonstrates Nintendo's confidence in building up the series. Anyway, as for the actual content, it's mostly just an overview (as I was expecting), fleshing out the info that has been drip-fed on the Japanese Xenoblade Twitter account over the past couple of months. One new reveal is that each Ourobors has two forms, depending on which character is in control. There's a DLC Expansion Pass, which was expected due to the eShop listing mentioning in-game purchases. Content will be added through to the end of next year. This is actually exactly the kind of content I was expecting, as it's similar to what XC2's Expansion Pass had, but I hope they add more than just two new Hero characters. I'll definitely be getting this day-one (unlike with XC2, where I waited several months). Something I was not expecting was amiibo support. The only other Xenoblade game to have that was the N3DS port. It doesn't sound super substantial, but the Shulk amiibo changes the appearance of Noah's Blade to look like the Monado. (No word on what the Pyra/Mythra amiibo might do, but perhaps something similar.) I hope they make more Shulk amiibo, because now I kinda want one. Other notes: - It's been noted before, but one cool detail I like is how if you're controlling a character from Keves, the Arts icons are circle-shaped and refill over time, just like in XC1; and if you're controlling a character from Agnus, the icons are diamond-shaped and refill as you attack, like in XC2. - Glad to see some outfit customization back, even if it's tied to classes. I'm really looking forward to getting absorbed in this game's world. It's just what I've needed lately.

So, I tried the demo for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. I only went through the Golden Deer route, but all three are available. It took me around four hours.
I haven't really been hyped for this game at all, so I wasn't expecting much, but I have to say, I'm far more interested now. The gameplay finally feels more strategic in the way I liked about the original Hyrule Warriors. It also felt far more polished than the shoddy demos I played for other recent Musou games. Heck, the graphics even look better than Three Houses.
Plus, I have to admit it was nice seeing my Golden Deer kids again.
I still don't think this will be a day one purchase, but I'm considering more seriously about getting it at some point in the future.

According to Noisy Pixel, Famitsu will be interviewing Toshihiro Kondo at the end of the month about the Ys series for its 35th anniversary. It will include info about Ys X. It probably won't be anything too dramatic, but I'm looking forward to what he has to say.

Footage has surfaced from Nintendo's 1976 game Sky Hawk. ( Source) It's not the actual game, itself, but rather the film footage used for the game. The footage is of remote-controlled airplanes, and the player has 60 seconds to shoot down as many as possible. This Reddit post explains how the game worked: It's interesting to see these early games from before Nintendo really started to establish its identity.

Sounds like Falcom is finally going all in on Switch support, not just with porting games in-house, but also bringing older games to the platform. ( Source) I'm still mainly hoping for more Ys games, specifically Memories of Celceta, the only canon Ys game I have yet to play. I think the chances are pretty decent considering it got a PS4 port just a few years ago. Aside from Ys and Trails, I can see them maybe bringing over Tokyo Xanadu (I'd prefer Xanadu Next, but I don't know how well that game would translate to a console), Gurumin, or the Zwei games. If we're talking about older legacy titles, I wonder if they're considering having things like Faxanadu or Wanderers from Ys on NSO. (Legacy of the Wizard/Dragon Slayer IV is already on one of the Namco Museum Archives.)

It's been reported that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has now acquired about 5 percent of Nintendo shares, making it the fifth largest invester in the company. Ick. Supposedly, it's for investment purposes, but if it's true that it's also intended to improve the image of the Saudi crown prince, then at least every single news article that covers these stories calls him out on his human rights issues.

And now, according to Nintendo Life, the Yamauchi family has announced that they want to renovate the areas around the hotel. It'll be a gradual, long-term project starting in 2025, and could go on until 2050, with cooperation from local residents.

I didn't find the Indie World too exciting. Also, the audio was out of sync the entire time, and it was on Nintendo's end. Soundfall looked kinda cool, though. That was the most interesting thing to me. EDIT: Here's the full video. They fixed the audio. They didn't even end with a "one last thing."

Banjo TooieBanjo's N64 On the file select screen, one of the options, for multiplayer in particular, is Banjo's N64. The box for BT and other cartridges can be seen around the table. Gotta appreciate the meta of an extremely blocky N64 being rendered on an N64.
