Does Miyamoto actually have anything to do with this game? It looked more like it was coming from a younger generation of Nintendo developers.
It's funny, when I first saw it, it reminded me of Sunset Overdrive from Microsoft's conference in that it's a colorful, cartoonish arena shooter. I guess the games don't really have anything in common beyond that, tho.
“What we can tell you about the one-on-one, at least, is that one player will be using the GamePad, one player will be using the Pro Controller. And we’re actually thinking of having that one-on-one mode be something kinda completely different from the four-on-four one where it’ll be, you know, kind of a lot more stalking and hiding in the ink. It’ll be much more like a quiet mode in a sense.”
“And, you know, we’ve progressed [in development] at least to that point, but in terms of what we’re going to do with the screens – whether we’re going to have one person on the TV and one person on the GamePad – we’re not sure yet.”
I'll admit this has to be the annoying downside of gamepad usage, that only 1 player has access to it.
The only real function of it seems to be just the constant map (with realtime team ink coverage and player placement), superjump (to 3 other team members) and optional gyro assist control. I'm surprised that the map can't just be an optional toggle display and the super jump to team members just be one of 3 inputs on the d-pad because that would then allow for Pro Controllers and Wii Remote/Nunchuck controls schemes to function. Yes, a Gamepad user might a have small advantage with all there functionality versus the other control schemes. It would be nice if they could at least be used for say, 4 player same team local couch co-op vs online players wouldn't it?
Also I keep think that apart from processing power, the 3DS (with a circle pad) would probably handle this game better design wise.
Also Splatoon developers with squid hats. (This is not the 1 vs 1 local multiplayer).
Anyone else going to participate in the Splatoon public betaGlobal Testfire?
Yeah, I will. Surprised at the short hour long intervals it's on for though.
The direct was nice (saw the NA version), than skimmed through the PAL version later which had some slight differences (giving punny names to the team behind the Squid Research Lab, like announcher Seth L.O. Pod, SRL founder, Phil Ounder and so on (and then listing all the names at the end of the video). It still seems werid NoA/NoE even changes this stuff.
Not a fan of the minigames locked behind the Amiibo. I hope there is either more minigames or that single player can be played when waiting for online but that doesn't look likely.
Bit surprised at the lack of multiplayer content with the intital game, and all the free DLC in the coming months to a make up for it. At least the wait doesn't seem too long.

First play session went well at first tried the, Splattershot Jr, then Splattershot, then Roller, for the first half hour and then when I was going to try Charge Shot, I ended up just getting communication errors for the next half hour and couldn't play the game which was very, very frustrating.
Second play session went much smoother! Had 1 or 2 drop out and also witnessed communication errors, which can be seen when you ink won't appear on a surface and then pops in a few seconds later. Was able to try the Charge Shot, which is tricky to use to splat smaller areas (like around the spawn). Had to keep remembering that I has secondary weapons (for all weapons) to use as well (in both play sessions).
Overall, I really liked the Splattershot Jr, it doesn't go through ink fast, has the nice special weapon (Bubble) and can throw grenades. The Roller is also really good at covering ground area and satisfying to use when running over people (unless it's attack another Roller from the front, then you both die). I really hope that we get the ability to see what weapons teammates have before the match though so teams can diversify more.
Also that Squid Jump minigame is a nice addition when waiting for a match.
I have not seen any official Nintendo/Squid Research Lab players yet.
Now less than 6 hours and 35 minutes till the next Global Testing session.

Glad I was able to finally try Splatoon.
To be honest, the thing I was most worried about was how much the game might make me motion sick, so I'm glad I was able to test that before buying it. Thankfully, it didn't seem to bother me too much.
Shrikeswind: Wait what am I celebrating about the excuse is that I had COVID for basically all of November. Wear your masks kids.

nocturnal YL: Remember NinDB Top 25? My list would have been slightly different now, even if I keep the series composition: (24) Ys VIII → (18) Ys Origin; (9) Atelier Totori DX → (8) Atelier Firis DX.
