Before you jump into conclusions, there are no official announcement of Super Smash Bros. 3!
I was thinking that the third Super Smash Bros. game should be titled Super Smash Bros. Retro. The "Retro" part in the title indicates that all the characters in SSB3 debuted before 1990. Only the characters from 1989 and earlier years get to be in SSB3.
In SSBM, the tagline was: Nintendo's Best in 4-Player Action!
The tagline for SSBR would be: 8-Bit Nintendo Strikes Back!
The SSBR roster would compromise of the following 44 carefully-selected retro Nintendo characters.
The character profiles will consist of the first game they debuted in and the most recent game they appeared in or are most known in that game.

Despite the 8-Bit part in the tagline, none of the characters will be blocky and 2-D like in the original games.
The only character who is 2-D is Mr. Game & Watch while everybody get the 3-D graphical update like the Ice Climbers got in SSBM but everybody are 128-Bit!
Don't you see that in SSBM? The retro Nintendo characters originally debuted in 8-Bit and 2-D, but their trophies are 3-D and 128-Bit!
Just imagine those retro characters playable in SSBR in 3-D and 128-Bit just like the Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch did in SSBM!
Did you see Little Mac in EA Sports Fight Night Round 2? He is not 2-D nor 8-Bit anymore. He is now 3-D and 128-Bit!
After SSBR, there would be both retro and modern characters like in SSBM in SSB4 so the Retro sequel would be for one time only in SSB3.
I believe that SSBR will be the ultimate nostalgia for NES gamers while reintroducing the NES stars to today's generation.
