Unlike the last couple of presentations, this one will be live streamed.
Even if Nintendo isn't doing general Directs for themselves, I like that they still recognize how much exposure they give to their third-parties and indie devs.

It seems that the old Metal Slug Anthology from the Wii and PS2 is being re-released on PS4 via Limited Run Games. Oddly, they've confirmed that there will be no Switch version.

I finished a daily challenge for the first time. A daily challenge is exactly what it sounds like. Everyone plays the same game mode with the same character using the same RNG seed. Permadeath is on, so if you die, it's over.
I was one of nine people to finish this daily challenge. (EDIT: I originally typed seven. Don't know why I did that.)
Notice the person in the top spot. Yeah, that's SpootyBiscuit, one of the best NecroDancer players in the world. He has speedrun both Crypt of the NecroDancer and Cadence of Hyrule at Games Done Quick multiple times. I just thought it was funny that he happened to finish the same daily challenge that I did.

Nintendo announced that the amiibo of the four champions are being restocked, so that suggests that the game will have some amiibo functionality. (Please let me scan in Wolf Link!) Also, the ladle and pot lid will be a bonus for pre-ordering the digital version, and may be available for purchase as DLC later, so there will likely be other DLC, as well. The original Hyrule Warriors on Wii U had amazing post-launch support (even if, ultimately, it ended up with less content than later re-releases), so hopefully it'll be a season pass like that. Actually, now that I think of it, does this mean the story is already doomed, with the heroes destined to lose? Are we going to witness the downfall of the Champions? It's kind of like Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country. As a prequel, it could only end one way, and while it was devestating, it was also hopeful. It's one of the most memorable and emotional game endings I've experienced in recent years. I can see Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity being something like that. This is really cool. It shows that Nintendo has a lot of faith in KT if they're being allowed to create a prequel to the most successful game in the franchise. It also means that a Hyrule Warriors game will be a canon part of the Zelda time line. Not many spin-offs achieve that.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Coming November 20. ...I get the feeling this video was originally recorded for a Nintendo Direct. EDIT: The stand-alone version of the trailer teases another update on September 26.

For me, personally, I don't recall ever being overtly shamed for liking video games. Most of my friends were into gaming, too. There may have been a few instances where a friend would chide me over certain games, like some Nintendo games, or games that looked too cartoonish instead of realistic, or were 2D instead of 3D, but that's not exactly harassment.
Rather, I'm the one that's usually shy about saying that I like gaming, specifically because there are some people who still see stigma attached to it. Also, being a Nintendo fan (*pre-Switch), or a fan of games that are a bit niche can make me feel a little like an outsider, although I think I'm pretty good at gravitating towards people who have similar interests to mine.
I do still see some "console war" or "gamer vs. casual" attitudes now and then online, but I don't feel like that's the general sentiment. It's something I see more among very specific groups. (Or maybe I'm just good at avoiding the toxicity.)
I don't have a solution for it, but I think it's better not to engage people like that online, as it's never productive. If they're looking for a fight, and you give them one, it just encourages their behavior.
And needless to say, I certainly would not tolerate behavior like that around here.

Here's the debut trailer for Asha in Monster World.
So, it's using 2.5D graphics, which I'm not surprised by, but after how good the hand drawn graphics were in the last couple of games, it's not as impressive.
Still, I'm looking forward to it. I wonder if they'll add any extra story segments, like explaining how Pepelogoo got separated from Asha. Also, I hope it leads to the creation of another brand new game. I don't want everything to just be a remake (says the guy who has purchased so many remakes and remasters).

The game was just updated with DLC pack 2, which includes 39 alternate music tracks by FamilyJules, A-rival, and Chipzel. If you're familiar with their usual styles, you'll know what to expect. You can also customize which soundtracks play for each character and in the different parts of the game. I haven't heard too much of them yet, but I like what I've heard so far. This option is available in the demo. It also says that my score would be marked to say I turned it on if I ever post it to the online leaderboard, though. At any rate, I want to try the original, intended way to play first. The original Crypt of the NecroDancer is also getting a physical version. Now I wonder if that one will get a Japanese release. (I prefer Japanese physical, even for western games. I love some consistency.) 1) I wouldn't worry about the online leaderboards. Speedrunners ruined them as soon as the game came out. 2) If you think Cadence of Hyrule is challenging, I think the original Crypt of the NecroDancer is significantly harder. Maybe it's just because I played it first, and I was more used to the mechanics by the time I played Cadence of Hyrule, but it does have some extra gameplay winkles, like each level having a time limit. The difficulty was tuned more for short gaming sessions.

So, according to Shinichi Sakamoto (and Famitsu), Asha in Monster World is a remake, and not an entirely new game.
I have to admit, that's a bit disappointing. Monster World IV was a great game, but I'd rather see something new.
It's also a little strange that Shinichi Sakamoto is composing it. While he was the composer for most of the old Wonder Boy/Monster World games, he actually did not work on Monster World IV.

A new Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase was shadow dropped. Not much to say... Collection of SaGa was a surprise. I don't expect to get it, but it's cool that they made it.

Glad you tried it out. To be honest, this is something I still struggle with in these game, but I did get better at it over time. Learning how to deal with enemy patterns is key, but it gets tricky when there are many of them at once. It's important to understand that the player's actions are prioritized, so enemy movements always happen *after* yours, even if it looks simultaneous. As I mentioned before, you can turn off the rhythm aspect and play it completely like a turn-based roguelike. I don't know if that option is in the demo, but I think it's called "Fixed beat mode," and can only be accessed from the options menu from within gameplay. A typical playthrough for me is about 4-5 hours. The game is intended to be replayable due to the procedurally generated maps, so it doesn't need to be like a full-length Zelda game. I guess you'll just have to go for a permadeath run, then. It's actually not as bad as it sounds. That hardest part is actually just getting a run started, but once you've built up hearts, weapons and items, the last half of the game is much easier. I decided to give it a try anyway, partly to return favour of you expressing interest in trying games I play*, and partly because I wanted to try out other types of rhythm games. * I hope this doesn't come out wrong; I'm not asking that you do the same in the future. It's just that normally, I don't play demos. I used to get DS demos via Wii's Nintendo Channel, but not since the 3DS (which only allows 30 plays per demo). No worries! I like that we try to take an interest in each other's games. There are so few of us here on the forum that our regular interests don't necessarily cross over very often, so it's nice when we find middle ground to talk about.

So, Ryuichi Nishizawa's tease from last year about making a new Monster World game was true! Wonder Boy - Asha in Monster World has been officially announced by IGN. Nishizawa will be directing it, original composer Shinichi Sakamoto will be producing the audio, and Maki Ozara will be the character designer. It's also said to be fully voiced. More info and first gameplay will be revealed at Gamescom on August 29. The game is scheduled for 2021 on PS4 and Switch. This is awesome news! I love that this series is back! We're getting another new Wonder Boy/Monster World game from the original creator, and it's bringing back Asha from Monster World IV (which basically confirms that Monster Boy is, indeed, canon).
