Here is a fun video interview with original SamSho creator Yasushi Adachi.

I think it's the definitive version of Twilight Princess. What else would you like to know?

I seem to remember reading that Super Mario Sunshine was in fact meant to contrast with Luigi's Mansion (sun and moon) in an interview, but can no longer find it? Wow! I've never thought of that! Mind blown. Anyway, isn't Wario also meant to be an "evil" counterpart to Mario? And similarly, Luigi and Waluigi, and Yoshi and Boshi (if you bring Super Mario RPG into it). And it might be a stretch, but isn't Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew a rival to Mario (and Luigi) who literally works in the background? Also, there are two examples in the Metroid series. Metroid Fusion had the SA-X, and Metroid Prime 2 and 3 had Dark Samus.

I don't know if I can pick a favorite, as I like each of them for their own merits.
I suppose the SNES is a safe choice, due to its game library, its historical significance, and personal sentiment.
But yeah, it's hard to pick.

Hmm. Off the top of my head...
Falco, from Star Fox. - Maybe not necessarily grumpy as much as sarcastic.
Nia, from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. - Here grumpiness is explained by her back story. The English dub is divisive, but personally, I think her thick Welsh accent is what makes her sassiness work so well.
Mythra, also from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. - Her attitude is explained even more profoundly through her back story if you play through Torna - The Golden Country.
Marie, from Splatoon. - OK, maybe she's not that grumpy, but she comes across that way next to the cheerful Callie.
And as usual, there are any number of Fire Emblem characters that would qualify.

Satoru Iwata was born December 6, 1959. He would have been 60 years old today.

The next batch of games for Nintendo Switch Online includes Star Fox 2.
Been expecting this, to be honest. Wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to keep it trapped on the SNES Classic/Mini. But I'll finally get to play it after waiting for over two decades!

Falcom's annual shareholder meeting is scheduled for December 18. They'll probably announce next year's game there.
Ys IX just came out, so it'll likely be either the first game in the next Trails/Kiseki story arc, or something original.

Just started Atelier Ryza. I'm two months late! I was actually looking forward to your impressions. I was mildly interested in this one, myself, based on what I had heard. (Actually, what got my attention was a comment that the battle system was similar to Xenoblade's, but it doesn't seem that similar from what I've seen.) Anyway, I haven't been focusing on games too much lately. I bought a few during the recent holiday sale. I got the Sega Ages versions of Virtua Racing and Gain Ground. I also got Blaster Master Zero 2, which included the DLC character for free for a limited time.

According to Gamespot, NISA has announced that Trails of Cold Steel III is coming to the Switch in Spring 2020. I'm not into the Trails series, so I don't plan to get this, but it's nice to see another Falcom game on the Switch. EDIT: Announcement trailer: I suppose it is noteworthy that Cold Steel III was originally developed specifically for the PS4, so the fact that it's getting a Switch port could be a positive sign for Ys IX in the future. EDIT 2: So, the Switch port is not being handled by Nippon Ichi, but by Engine Software, who also ported Ni no Kuni to Switch.

Here's the latest development update. I find it interesting that the most voted-for stage to be remade from R-Type III was stage 4. It's a clever stage, yes, but is almost kaizo in its design, often trolling the player. It also has an extremely difficult end boss, so the whole thing is kind of a drag to play through. Then again, I guess trolling the player is kind of a thing in R-Type...

There were also the manga that ran in Nintendo Power magazine in the '90s. Super Mario Adventures and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past aren't necessarily "forgotten" since they were each compiled and re-released in recent years. More obscure, however, were Star Fox (my favorite!) and Super Metroid, both by Benimaru Itoh. So far, neither has been re-released. Metroid, Fire Emblem it seems likely have manga. Wasn't there a Fire Emblem animated series I think I may have read about a Metroid one a long time ago, but my memory is faint. There was a two-episode anime for Fire Emblem, based on the original game.
