None of the third-party Vs. System games are listed on NinDB, so I assume Nintendo had no direct involvement with them. They simply made the arcade hardware. It is interesting that third-party Vs. System games are being released as part of Arcade Archives. So far, there is Vs. Castlevania and Vs. Gradius, and interestingly, Vs. 10-Yard Fight is bundled in with the original arcade version.

I'll admit, the only one of these I've bought is Mario Bros, but I'd like to get more.
Another one that would be interesting to see is Arm Wrestling. I could see Hamster releasing that one, but they'd probably do Super Punch-Out first.

We haven't really been keeping track of Hamster's Arcade Archives releases for Nintendo's arcade games. I decided to make a list of them here for my own reference, but maybe you guys might find it handy. Also, we can use this thread to discuss them if you'd like. Latest Release: Vs. Tennis Upcoming Releases: n/a Currently Available:Titles | Release Date (D/M/Y) |
---|
Balloon Fight (Vs.) | 27/12/19 | Baseball (Vs.) | 19/6/20 | Clu Clu Land (Vs.) | 28/6/19 | Donkey Kong | 14/6/18 | Donkey Kong Jr. | 21/12/18 | Donkey Kong 3 | 5/4/19 | Excitebike (Vs.) | 21/9/18 | Golf (Vs.) | 25/10/19 | Ice Climber (Vs.) | 22/2/19 | Mahjong (Vs.) | 21/2/20 | Mario Bros. | 27/9/17 | Pinball (Vs.) | 30/8/19 | Punch-Out!! | 30/3/18 | Sky Skipper | 20/7/18 | Soccer | 22/10/20 | Super Mario Bros. (Vs.) | 22/12/17 | Super Punch-out!! | 14/8/20 | Tennis (Vs.) | 18/12/20 | Urban Champion (Vs.) | 9/11/18 | Wrecking Crew (Vs.) | 30/4/20 |
It's a shame we haven't seen more "deep cuts" like Sky Skipper, but maybe it didn't sell very well. I'd still love to see Popeye, but obviously there are the licensing issues. Vs. Duck Hunt would be pretty cool, too, but I'm not sure how they would handle the zapper controls.

SamSho on Switch is releasing in NA in Q1 2020. (Still scheduled for December 12 in Japan.)
I wonder why the delay. It's not like there isn't already an English version.

Game ratings are supposed to be kind of a vague description for what contents are in a game, but even then, they can be very flawed. One thing they don't provide is context, which can be very important. Also, they tend to categorize by age, but even as you say, everyone is different, so those age categories tend to be subjective and don't work well as hard rules. Additionally, age ratings can vary by region due to cultural differences. (A game rated CERO D in Japan may only be rated T by the ESRB in North America.)
I am not a parent, so I'm not comfortable giving advice on how to raise children. I'll just say it's probably best to use your best judgment on a case by case basis rather than following an age rating exactly.

In terms of "finished, but unreleased" games, I usually think of Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball on the GameCube for some reason. Not that I'm necssarily interested in playing it, but it's kind of interesting in that it was the last licensed Nintendo sports game, and never got transferred to the Wii like other late, unreleased GameCube games. But being that it was licensed (with MLB and MLBPA), it will likely never see the light of day. I'm not as much interested in the unused concept for a Fire Emblem game on Wii (never officially announced). From the way that game is described, it's going to feel even less like a traditional Fire Emblem game than Echoes and Three Houses combined. There's also Metroid Dread, which is also never officially announced. I don't know anything about that besides it being a sequel to Metroid Fusion, but that's more than enough. I've been wanting to see a sequel to Metroid Fusion since… well, Metroid Fusion. I forgot about Metroid Dread, but it was probably never officially revealed for a reason. I'm kind of intrigued by that Wii Fire Emblem game, but from what I've heard, even IS didn't know what they wanted it to be. Might have made for an interesting spin-off, but not a good replacement for the main series.

Hamster is 20 years old. Without them, we wouldn't have seen re-releases of many of Nintendo's classic arcade games, including obscure ones like Sky Skipper.

Here are the full 1.1.0 patch notes. The free update includes: - Save slots increased from 5 to 25 - Battle appearance options - Jeritza joins your party in the Black Eagle: Crimson Flower path Nice coincidence that I happen to be in a playthrough for that path.

I like how the English version of the Psycho Soldier theme includes the original cheesy lyrics verbatim, and also replaces the Japanese second verse with an awesome saxophone solo.

Mai is Too Hot For Smash™. That's OK. I'd take Athena and the Psycho Soldier theme any day. Also, 20 guest characters and 50 music tracks is kinda insane.

Here's another Japanese trailer for the Switch version of SamSho. It includes a look at the Neo Geo Pocket Color game, as well.

The second crowdfunding campaign is officially over, finishing with over 10,000 backers and less than US$6,000 shy of the next stretch goal. A shame it didn't quite get there, but it was just a recreation of a stage from R-Type II, and since we already have R-Type Dimensions, it doesn't seem as interesting.

The first major patch for the Switch version has just been released. (Cheeky releasing it on Halloween.) Version 1.0.3 purports to fix input lag, crashes, loading times, and visual fidelity. Version 1.0.4 is due out by the end of November, but it sounds more like it will just be for extra polish (and possibly address any issues with 1.0.3.)
I'm still waiting for a proper comparison video. What I've seen so far does show vastly improved loading times, but you can't really tell much else from a video. Hopefully Gamexplain will do one.
I still want to pick this up. It's a pretty good price right now. Just gonna wait for some more impressions.
